PHILADELPHIA -- Desperate to see a victory again, Philadelphia fans wouldnt even wait for the end, standing to cheer as time was running out in the third quarter. Air Max 90 Uk Cheap Online . By then it was clear: The 76ers were going to win for the first time in two months, and they were going to do it with ease. The 76ers snapped their NBA record-tying, 26-game losing streak, routing the Detroit Pistons 123-98 on Saturday night to avoid establishing the longest skid in U.S. major pro sports history. "Its not something I want to be a part of," 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams said, "so its great that we got this win." Carter-Williams and Thaddeus Young each scored 21 points for the 76ers, who won for the first time since beating Boston exactly two months ago and did it impressively, leading by as much as 32 points. They also ended an 18-game home losing streak, which was one shy of another NBA record. Beaten badly a number of times during their skid, the 76ers got to experience life on the other side, ringing up a season-high 70 points in the first half. Their 26 straight losses equaled the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and also the NFLs Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who dropped 26 straight from Sept. 12, 1976-Dec. 4, 1977. "We were just happy to get a win," Young said. "I dont think it was for the streak or anything like that, we just wanted to go out there and win a basketball game and continue to just play." Henry Sims added 16 points for the Sixers, who hadnt won before their home crowd since beating Charlotte on Jan. 15. Fans in the crowd of 17,438 were into it from the start and grew louder throughout, standing and cheering in the final seconds of the third and then getting up again to deliver a standing ovation for the final 45 seconds of the game. Greg Monroe had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Pistons, who lost for the 11th time in 13 games. Blown out a night earlier by Miami, they made the 76ers look as good as the Heat with a sloppy effort that included 18 turnovers, many after starting point guard Brandon Jennings was ejected in the first quarter. "They came out and competed tonight. They wanted it more than we did," Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey said. The Sixers were expected to be among the NBAs worst teams, though they briefly fooled everyone when they opened the season by beating Miami and Chicago during a 3-0 start. But they look nothing like that team now, having traded three of their top players before Februarys trade deadline and replacing them with what coach Brett Brown said is the youngest team in league history, one that has been unprepared or perhaps just unqualified to win NBA games. There is young talent on the roster, with Carter-Williams the possible Rookie of the Year and Nerlens Noel, still out recovering from a torn ACL, also a lottery pick in last years draft. Brown doesnt question the Sixers plans or his decision to leave San Antonio to come coach here, insisting the team was headed in the right direction and that all this losing "will be a distant memory in September." "Our judgment day isnt today and it wont be tomorrow," Brown said before the game. "Were on a three to five-year plan." The present was finally fun on Saturday. The 76ers opened a 10-point lead after one, capitalizing on some free throws when Jennings picked up two technical fouls arguing a call that wasnt even against him and was ejected with 1:18 left. A 9-0 run made it 55-38 with about 5 1/2 minutes left in the half, and when Detroit crept within 10 with 1:32 remaining, Philadelphia closed with another 9-0 spurt to open a 70-51 cushion at the break. The 76ers extended it to 32 late in the third, and Brown pulled his five starters together with 5:13 left and a 30-point bulge. There was no visible celebration, though there was surely some relief. "There was some emotion," Carter-Williams said. "Of course we were happy to win again, its a great thing to be on the winning side." No need to worry about running out a hit with the way Cincinnatis leadoff man lined his single to right in the ninth off a fastball from stalwart reliever Francisco Rodriguez. Hamiltons hit allowed Zack Cozart to score from second, and Aroldis Chapman shut down the Milwaukee Brewers in the bottom of the ninth to give the Reds a 6-5 win. "Somehow my hands were quicker than I thought they would (be) getting on top of the fastball and it was in," Hamilton said. "It was just a big win for us." Made it easy to forget how the Reds blew a four-run lead in the seventh. Hamilton added his 25th steal of the season in the ninth for good measure. Hes second in the National League in steals behind Dee Gordon of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was left stranded at third, but his only hit of the night off Rodriguez (2-2) was much more important. The Reds feel like they are building momentum after taking two straight from Los Angeles. "That was a big comeback win. Its something that we really havent done much of this year," said starter Homer Bailey, who gave up four runs and six hits in 6 1-3 innings. "So I think once you start picking up those kinds of wins, and coming back, it becomes contagious." Jonathan Broxton (2-0) tossed a scoreless eighth before Chapman struck out two in the ninth for his 11th save. Hamiltons hit spoiled a special night for Milwaukee, which unveiled its Wall of Honor before the game. Hall of Famer Hank Aaron and baseball Commissioner Bud Selig were among dignitaries at Miller Park. The Brewers rallied with four runs in the seventh to tie it at 5 on Carlos Gomezs RBI double. But earlier mistakes ultimately caught up to Milwaukee, which tied a season-high with four errors. Starter Matt Garza had two errors alone on errant throws. The second came after Garza fielded a bunt by Bailey before his hard throw sailed wide of first and into the stands. The right-hander put his hands on his hips in frustration, but the trouble was just starting to brew.. Cheap Air Max 90 Uk. "It hurt him today," manager Ron Roenicke said. "Too bad because he had really good stuff today." Bailey later scored on Joey Vottos single. Votto came around for a four-run lead after Jay Bruces double wasnt fielded cleanly by Khris Davis, who was charged with an error. Garza went seven innings and allowed seven hits and five runs, including one earned. But the errors still irritated him after the game. "The guys battled back and we lost it late, but we should have never been in that spot," Garza said. "My stuff was too good tonight to do something dumb like that." Davis, a young left fielder, atoned for his miscue with his shot in the seventh off the black Caterpillar ad affixed to the second deck above right field. Came on a night, too, when he posed for a picture with the iconic Aaron, who finished his stellar 23-year career in 1976 as a designated hitter for the Brewers in old County Stadium. Bailey had looked well on his way to winning a fifth straight decision after allowing just one run and three hits through six innings. He even wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the fourth by getting Irving Falu to pop out. No such luck in the seventh. After Davis homer, Bailey allowed two singles before Sam LeCure took over on the mound. After Scooter Gennetts RBI single, Jonathan Lucroy drove in another run on his 28th birthday by beating out a hard chopper to third before Gomez hit his double. (SportsNetwork. Air Jordan 4 Store Canada .com) - The Canucks are hoping to string together back-to-back victories when they hose the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night and a win tonight would give the club its first winning streak since consecutive triumphs on Jan. 18 and 21. Vancouver has won two of three on a four-game road trip after besting the Florida Panthers 4-3 yesterday in a shootout. Vancouver was facing Roberto Luongo for the first time since dealing him to the Panthers on March 4. Luongo made 29 saves, but also yielded the lone goal of the shootout to the Canucks Nicklas Jensen. Eddie Lack, whose production as a rookie this season led to Luongo being dealt, ended with 26 saves and stopped all three skaters in the shootout. Dan Hamhuis and Alexandre Burrows scored in regulation for the Canucks, who escaped with two points after giving up a game-tying goal with 1:35 left in regulation. "Especially the way the game was tied up there at the end, to get the win was huge for us," said Jensen. Vancouver won for just the third time in its last nine games (3-5-1) and improved to 3-12-1 in its past 16 on the road. The victory also pulled the Canucks to within three points of the Dallas Stars and Phoenix Coyotes for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. The Canucks have lost four of their past six versus the Lightning, including a 4-2 defeat at home on Jan. 1. Alex Killorn and Valtteri Filppula both had a goal and an assist, while Bishop made 28 saves. Lack yielded four goals on 33 shots for the Canucks, who have won four of their past six in Tampa. Both Bishop and Lack faced their respective opponent for the first time in their career in that earlier meeting. Ben Bishop is one of the main reasons that the Lightning remain in the playoff picture despite an extended absence by Steven Stamkos due to injury. Fresh off of setting a club record for wins in a season, Bishop will look to lead the Lightning past the Canucks in the finale of a six-game homestand. Though Stamkos missed 45 games from mid-November to early March with a broken right leg, the Lightning were able to keep pace in the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division. With 79 points, Tampa Bay is occupying the first wild card spot and also is just one point behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for third place in the division. Bishop has been a big part of that success as he is among the league leaders with 31 wins, five shutouts, a 2.10 goals against average and .929 save percentage. The 27-year-old, in his first season as a full-time starter, had struggled to string victories together recently, but won a second outing in a row for the first time since late January with a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Bishop made 23 saves in his eighth career shutout and surpassed Nikolai Khabibulins 2002-03 franchise record of 30 wins in a season. "Its a nice accomplishment," Bishop said, "A a whole lot of credit goes to the guys in front of me. I dont get that without them. Its a team thing. I dont like at it as an individual thing." Defenceman Michael Kostka scored in a second straight game and also had an assist, giving him five points in seven games since joining the Lightning off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks. "I just try to play solid defensively when Im on the ice," said Kostka. "But its nice to be able to chip in with a goal when I have the chance." B.J. CLEVELAND -- Moments before introducing their three newest players, the Browns sacked two disappointing quarterbacks. Nike Air Jordan Sale Cheap . Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell got dumped 33 minutes apart. Clevelands QB carousel has never spun faster. Weeden, a former minor league baseball player who couldnt build on a promising rookie season, was let go Wednesday less than two years after the Browns selected him in the first round with the idea he would solve a position that has haunted the franchise since its expansion return 15 years ago. Weedens run was brief and forgettable. Campbells was even shorter. Shortly after the Browns sent out a release about Weeden, they emailed a nearly identical one concerning Campbell, who went 1-7 as a starter last season. Though expected, the moves were somewhat stunning since they trumped the introductions of safety Donte Whitner, linebacker Karlos Dansby and cornerback Isaiah Trufant, free agents who passed physicals and signed free agent contracts as blizzard-like conditions battered the teams facility in Berea. Theres always a storm brewing for the Browns, who have started 20 QBs since 1999. Weeden never panned out, and it wasnt entirely the first-round draft picks fault. He played under two coaches and in two systems in two seasons. After throwing for 3,385 yards as a rookie, he lost his job early last season after he got hurt and Brian Hoyer came off the bench and led the Browns to two victories. Weeden was re-inserted as the starter when Hoyer suffered a season-ending knee injury, but the 30-year-old lost his job again, this time to Campbell. Weeden passed for 5,116 yards and went 5-15 as a starter. He also became a target for Cleveland fan abuse, and his release will allow him to start fresh somewhere else. "First and foremost, the Browns would like to thank Brandon and his agent for being true professionals," new general manager Ray Farmer said. "The circumstances in which he found himself were not easy for him or the team. After discussions with Brandon and his agent, wed like to give him the ability to pursue other opportunities." Weedens release was quickly followed by the Browns cutting ties with Campbell, who was due a $250,000 roster bonus on Thursday. Campbell had some positive moments but not enough of them for the Browns, who signed the 32-year-old veteran as a free agent last March. "We appreciate Jasons contributions to the Browns in 2013," Farmer said. "Hes a respected veteran player in this league. We felt like at this time, early in the free-agency period, we would give him a better opportunity to move forward. We wish Jason the best in his future endeavours." As for their future, the Browns are expected to draft a quarterback in Mays draft. They own the No. 4 overall pick and its possible Texas A&Ms Johnny Manziel, Central Floridas Blake Bortles or Louisvilles Teddy Bridgewater could be available when the Browns are on the clock. However, they may want to wait and take a quarterback later in the draft to groom behind Hoyer. Soon after dumping Weeden and Campbell, the Browns welcomed Whitner, Dansby and Trufant, who beamed smiles as they posed for photos with new Browns coach Mike Pettine and general manager Ray Farmer. The Browns entered free agency $49 million under the salary cap, but bit off a chunk by giving Whitner a four-year, $28 million deal and Dansby one worth $24 million over four years. Its a homecoming for Whitner, who grew up in Cleveland played at Ohio State. "Its not often you can play high school, college and in the NFL in the same state," said Whitner, who spent the past three years in San Francisco and is excited for a chance to spend more time with two young children who live in Cleveland. "I know the history of this city; I know the history of this football team. I know it recently hasnt been good, but I know with a lot of hard work, a lot of good leadership and a lot of good football, physical football, we can change this thing around." Farmer excused himself after introducing the players, saying "theres more work to be done." The Browns were interested in signing lock-down cornerback Darrelle Revis, but after he reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with New England, Farmer may turn his focus to the offence in the coming days. He signed Cincinnati slot receiver Andrew Hawkins to an offer sheet on Tuesday, and the Bengals have five days to match it or lose the speedy wideout. Also, the Browns still dont know what will happen with Pro Bowl centre Alex Mack. The team placed its transition tag on Mack last week, and now must wait to see if hes offered a contract by other teams. The Browns also are reportedly interested in running back Ben Tate, who rushed for 771 yards and four touchdowns with Houston last season. Cleveland has been in the market for a feature back since trading Trent Richardson to Indianapolis. Cheap Jordans Online Free Shipping . OKLAHOMA CITY - Thunder general manager Sam Presti is aware of coach Scott Brooks critics. Air Jordan 3 Uk Online . An NBA Finals appearance in 2012 fueled expectations, so when San Antonio beat the Thunder in Oklahoma City this season to close out the Western Conference finals, it didnt go over well with some locals in this era of winning coaches getting fired. Naysayers also believe Brooks offensive strategy gives point guard Russell Westbrook too much freedom at the expense of MVP Kevin Durant. Presti did his best to squelch the talk on Thursday. After all, he said, the Thunder finished with the second-best record in the NBA this season, despite numerous injuries to key players. "Scotty, I think, did an excellent job," Presti said. "I understand, we all have a tendency to look at the last game and the last series. I respect it. Thats part of sports. I cant do that." Brooks took over for P.J. Carlesimo during the 2008-09 season and led the team to a 22-47 record. The team has won at least 61 per cent of its games each season since. Brooks has a 293-170 record with the Thunder. "Hes stacking successful seasons on top of each other, increasing our odds to take a really unique amount of time that weve been successful and extend it to a very, very unique amount of time," Presti said. Durant said this week that he feels Brooks is the man to keep things moving. "Thats our guy," Durant said. "Im riding with him." Brooks has praised Westbrook while often publicly pointing out his three-time All-Stars need to find a balance between shooting and passing when he attacks. Westbrook also spoke highly of Brooks this week. "Hes done a great job of having confidence in me personally," Westbrook said. "Theres times when things have gone south and hes the only one that always — regardless of what happened — always had my back. Regardless if people were saying I was doing this or doing that, I was being selfish, he always was the first person to step up and have my back and support me regardless of whats going on." Brooks will have plenty to work with. Durant is signed through 2015-16, and Westbrook and defensive ace Serge Ibaka are signed through 2016-17. Backup centre Steven Adams figures to be a prominent part of the future. The 20-year-old from New Zealand improved dramatically late in the regular season while Kendrick Perkins was out with an injury, then continued to get better in the playoffs. Presti sees Adams talent, but says he has work ahead. Perkins is still a solid defender, but his offensive limitations allow defences to pay more attention to Durant and Westbrook. When Presti was asked about the amnesty clause, which allows a team to waive one player without his salary counting against the cap or luxury tax, he hesitated before offering perspective. He said though Adams was solid against the Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio, Perkins played a key role in the grueling seven-game series against Memphis. Presti said he wouldnt consider waiving or trading Perkins unless it could help the team strategically long term. Shooting guard Thabo Sefolosha is an unrestricted free agent who lost his starting job during the playoffs. Caron Butler, a mid-season pickup, is an unrestricted free agent. He had his moments, but was out of the rotation by the end of the playoffs. The team has the option to keep Hasheem Thabeet, a 7-foot-3 backup centre. Thabeet played little, even while Perkins was injured. Presti was non-committal in each case. Presti seemed uncertain what unrestricted free agent Derek Fisher will do, but said he will be successful whatever he decides. The 39-year-old guard has been connected to the New York Knicks head coaching job. "We have absolutely no reason to expect Derek to keep us informed of his plans," Presti said. "The only thing we have a right to do is to support him because hes left an impact here in a positive way." __ Follow Cliff Brunt on Twitter: www.twitter.com/CliffBruntAPCheap Air Jordan 3 Uk . - Anthony Beauvillier had the winning goal in the third period as the Shawinigan Cataractes edged the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 2-1 on Wednesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play. TORONTO -- Like hes done all month, Edwin Encarnacion did his part to put the Toronto offence in position for a victory. Hydro Flask Outlet Online . It was the defence that came up short Thursday night and it proved costly in an 8-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals. With two outs in the ninth inning, Toronto shortstop Jose Reyes had a chance to seal the win on a routine ground ball. However, his throw was low and pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson came around from second base to tie the game. The Royals scored two more runs in the 10th inning to end Torontos season-high nine-game winning streak. "Theres no excuse," Reyes said. "I should make a better throw there. Thats a routine ground ball, I got it perfect. I just didnt have enough on the throw." Omar Infante drove in a pair of runs off Toronto reliever Todd Redmond (0-4) in the 10th inning as Kansas City (25-28) ended its four-game losing skid. Greg Holland got the last three outs for his 15th save. "Well you dont expect to lose one like that," said Blue Jays manager John Gibbons. "But you know what, weve been playing some good baseball. The key is just to come back out and play a good clean game tomorrow." Encarnacion continued his phenomenal play this month by launching two no-doubt homers to give him 18 on the season and a team record 16 for the month. "To watch what hes been doing this month, I dont know where it goes down in history but its pretty historic in my mind anyway," Gibbons said. Jose Bautista also homered for the Blue Jays, who had their seven-game home winning streak come to an end. Encarnacion is now one away from tying Barry Bonds major-league record for most homers in the month of May. Bonds hit 17 with San Francisco in May 2001. The Toronto slugger also has five multi-homer games this month, which ties the major-league record for any month currently shared by Albert Belle (September 1995) and Harmon Killebrew (May 1959). Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey pitched to two batters in the sixth inning before being pulled. He said the team will focus on its positive play over the last few weeks. "Jose makes that play 99 out of 100 times, it was just a real fluke thing," Dickey said. "But we cant second-guess things the way that weve been playing and the way weve been pitching and hitting. I mean, Edwin -- what can you say? "I mean its been fun to watch and to be on a team where so many things are going well and I think itll continue tomorrow. I think this was just kind of a mild hiccup." The American League East-leading Blue Jays fell to 32-23 with the loss. Kansas City starter James Shields worked seven innings and reliever Wade Davis (4-1) pitched two innings for the win. The Royals left 11 batters on base but outhit Toronto 14-9. "I was really pleased with the way we swung the bats tonight," said manager Ned Yost. "We were driving balls. We just had some great at-bats." Salvador Perez hit his fifth homer of the season for the Royals in the second inning and Kansas City added three runs in the fifth. The Royals also loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh inning but Aaron Loup got out of the jam by striking out Alcides Escobar on three pitches. Closer Casey Janssen, who was looking to pick up his ninth save, recorded the first two outs in the ninth before Alex Gordons single. He was replaced by Dyson, who stole second. "We were facing a hot team that had swept their last three teams," Dyson said. "I thought we did a great job to come over here and kind of break that up a little bit and get going." In the 10th, Redmond gave up a single to Escobar to open the inning and Pedro Ciriaco reached when he was beaned while squaring up to bunt. Nori Aoki advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Damien Comolli says he was convinced Henderson would become an outstanding player He is one of the main reasons I got sacked, Comolli told Sky Sports Jim White in an interview with talkSPORT.The day I got sacked, they [Liverpools owners] told me I had made a big mistake on Jordan and he was a waste of money. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but I think we paid the right price. He was a young English, British player and we know very often that British players are overvalued. But we were more than happy to pay the price because we thought he would become an outstanding player.I never said it publicly, but I was convinced he would be the future captain. People will say it is easy to say now, but I was convinced at the time that he would become the Liverpool captain. Now he is and he is also the England captain. Henderson joined Liverpool along with Charlie Adam (left), Stewart Downing (second right) and Alexander Doni (right) Comolli, who in his first two months with the Reds brought Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll to the club in 2011, explained both he and then manager Kenny Dalglish believed signing Henderson was not a gamble.I was totally convinced, as was Kenny, that we were doing the right thing for the club, said Comolli. He fitted the profile we were looking for. MINNEAPOLIS -- Nikola Pekovic didnt want to leave Minnesota, and the Timberwolves werent about to let him go. Nike Free Shoes On Sale . After weeks of negotiations, waiting and watching, the two sides came to agreement on Wednesday on a new five-year contract worth $60 million that includes an additional $8 million in incentives. "Hes a dominating offensive player," Timberwolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders said in a conference call. "He plays extremely hard. He probably will work as hard as he can to live up to a contract he signs, whatever it is worth." After posting a career-high 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game last season, the 27-year-old Pekovic was a restricted free agent when the NBAs fiscal year opened on July 1. That meant the Timberwolves had the right to match any offer he received from another team, and Saunders made it clear from the start that they would do whatever it took to keep him in Minnesota. In the end, that included adding a fifth year on the initial four-year, $48 million offer they presented Pekovic and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, a few weeks ago. "With him and Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio, weve got three cornerstones in that franchise that all complement each other," Saunders said. After three seasons in the NBA, Pekovic has emerged as one of the best offensive big men in an increasingly centre-scarce league. He figured to garner a lot of interest from other teams looking to add some size and scoring to the paint. He waited for Dwight Howard to choose between several suitors. When Howard signed with the Houston Rockets, the belief was that a lucrative offer from one of the teams that missed out -- perhaps the Hawks or Mavericks -- could be on the way. Both of those teams decided not to pursue Pekovic, but the Timberwolves were still left holding their breath in hopes that another team with abundant cap space like the Bucks would force their hand with a monster offer. That offer never came. With the market settling down and the likelihood of another offer growing more remote by the day, Saunders came through with the fifth year on the deal to get it done. Because Pekovic was a restricted free agent and not signing an extension on his rookie deal, the Timberwolves still have the one five-year, rookie scale deal allowed by the current collective bargaining agreement for Rubio, if they so choose. There was some question about whether giving Pekovic five years would agitate Love, who wasnt happy when previous president David Kahn refused to give him the teams "designated player" five-year extension in 2012. But Kahn was fired after last season and Saunders said he has had conversations about the Pekovic deal with Love, who gave his full support. "More than anything else Kevin wants to win," Saunders said. "As we talked about Pek, he said, You have to do what you have to do. ... I dont know whats been done in the past and I really dont care. As he said, were moving forward." The 6-foot-11 Pekovic averaged just 0.8 blocks per game last season, meaning he isnt the classic rim protector that would be the biggest asset for a Timberwolves defence that is short on stoppers. He also missed 20 games last season and 15 the year before due to various nagging injuries that come about due to his physical style of play. But keeping Pekovic was a priority for Saunders and Wolves coach Rick Adelman, who valued the Montenegrins soft hands and quick feet in the post as well as his underrated pick-and-roll defence. Now that his deal is done, Pekovic will team with Love and Rubio to form a promising young core for the Wolves, who will be pushing for their first post-season appearance since 2004. In a league that is getting smaller and smaller, with few dominant big men, the Wolves see Pekovics size and strength as one of their best chances to create consistent mismatches in the demanding Western Conference. The key will be keeping Pekovic on the floor. He has missed time due to various foot and ankle issues, most minor in nature that come from the pounding he takes on a nightly basis. When Saunders took over for Kahn earlier this summer, he said he thought the Wolves could make some adjustments that would help him and the rest of their players stay healthy over the long season. Saunders said Wednesday that the target will be "in the 70s" in terms of the number of games Pekovic will play. Nike Free Clearance Ireland . HOUSTON -- Monday was a day of ups and downs for Joe Mauer. Nike Air Max 720 Sale Canada . Luckily for Minnesotas star first baseman the long day ended on a positive note. Mauer had two hits in his return from the disabled list, including a go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning, to help the Twins to a 4-2 win over the Houston Astros on Monday night. Mauer was elated to rejoin his team after a 34-game stint on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his right side. But his excitement was tempered when Josh Willingham, one of his best friends on the team, was traded to the Royals just before the game. "I was on a high coming in and seeing everybody and then to see one of our guys go out that was pretty tough," he said. "But then to win the ballgame was a good way to end it." A pair of walks by Josh Fields (2-5) left runners at first and second with two outs in the ninth when Mauer hit a groundball single to left field that scored Jordan Schafer. Brian Dozier also scored on the play when rookie left fielder Domingo Santana held the ball for several seconds before throwing it in. "I just panicked," Santana said. "I was just trying to throw the ball to the cutoff man, but I just panicked." Mauer, who doubled in the third inning, extended his hitting streak to 13 games in his first game since July 1. "This guy, Ive always said he can get right out of bed and hit," Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said. Brian Duensing (3-2) got the last two outs of the eighth inning for the win and Glen Perkins pitched a scoreless ninth for his 29th save. Chris Carter and Jose Altuve both had solo homers for Houston and Jake Marisnick had a career-high four hits. Carter connected for his 26th homer to make it 2-2 in the fifth inning. Tommy Milone allowed eight hits and two runs in his debut with the Twins after being traded from Oakland for Sam Fuld on July 31. "Good to get the first one out of the way," Milone said. "Obviously going out there with a new team you want to pitch well and I felt like I did that." Houston starter Brad Peacock allowed seven hits and two runs in five innings. Eduardo Escobar was at third with two outs in the fourth when an error by Peacock on a pickoff attempt at first base allowed him to score and make it 2-1. First baseman Jon Singleton crashed into first base umpire Bill Welke and knocked him to the ground as he chased the ball. Welke was OK but got up slowly and kept trying to brush the dirt off his uniform for more than an inning. The Twins took a 1-0 lead in the first on Plouffes fielders choice. The Astros tied it up in the bottom of the inning on Altuves homer. TRAINERS ROOM Minnesota: RHP Ricky Nolasco (elbow) made his second rehabilitation start for Class A Cedar Rapids on Sunday and Gardenhire said that he should make his next start for the Twins. PHILADELPHIA -- For the Philadelphia Eagles to go worst-to-first in the NFC East, they had to win at home. Nike Shox Sale Outlet . Bye-bye, losing streak. Nick Foles threw for 298 yards and spun free for a touchdown, LeSean McCoy ran for two scores and the Eagles snapped a 10-game losing skid at Lincoln Financial Field with a 24-16 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday. A year after finishing 4-12 under Andy Reid, Chip Kelly had guided his Eagles (6-5) to the division lead. Theyre a half-game ahead of idle Dallas (5-5). The defending division champion Redskins rallied in the fourth quarter but fell short, dropping to 3-7. "I dont look at it globally," Kelly said. "We have five games in December and we put ourselves in position where those games are meaningful. Well see where were at Dec. 29." The Eagles hadnt won at home in 413 days since defeating the New York Giants on Sept. 30, 2012. Theyll enter their bye week on a three-game winning streak, having turned things around after consecutive home losses last month. "Not one person on this team was defeated," Foles said. "Everybody in our locker room believed we can win and if you feel that way, its something special. We have to keep the momentum going." Down 24-0 in the fourth quarter, the Redskins rallied behind Robert Griffin IIIs TD passes of 62 yards to Darrel Young and 41 yards to Aldrick Robinson and both 2-point conversions. RG3 then drove the Redskins to the Eagles 18 before his pass off his back foot was intercepted by Brandon Boykin in the end zone. "I was trying to throw the ball in the back of the end zone," he said. "It didnt get to where I wanted it to go. Obviously I was on my heels. Something I can definitely learn from." Foles didnt throw any TD passes after tossing 10 in the past two games. But he still hasnt thrown an interception this year, extending his streak to 199 passes without a pick. Foles tied an NFL record with seven TD passes in a win at Oakland two weeks ago and followed it with three more in a victory at Green Bay. McCoy finished with 77 yards rushing and 73 receiving. He leads the NFL with 1,009 yards on the ground. Foles had a career-best 47 yards rushing. "Were all playing as one," McCoy said. "Earlier in the year, the offence was playing good and defence wasnt or defence was playing good and offence wasnt. Now were clicking. The Redskins started their last drive at their 4 with 3:26 left after a 70-yard punt by Donnie Jones. Griffin completed a 28-yard pass to Santana Moss on third-and-25 and Washington eventually moved to the 18 before the pick. Griffin was 17 of 35 for 264 yards and ran for 44 yards. "Took us until the fourth quarter to make a couple plays," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. "We had our opportunity at the end. Just couldnt take advantage of it." A 33-27 win at Washington in the season opener kick-started the Kelly Era and raised expectations in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. The Eagles lost the next three games before winning five of seven. Foles replaced an injured Michael Vick in the first half of a victory at the Giants on Oct. 6, and has led the Eagles to a 4-1 record since. The Redskins couldnt generate much offence until Griffin connected with Young after scrambling early in the fourth quarter. He hit Nick Williams on the conversion. Robinson made a nice adjustment to catch Griffins underthrown deep pass for the next score, and RG3 dived in from the 2 for the conversion. But Washington couldnt complete the comeback. Foles ran in from the 4 for a 7-0 lead, even showing some athleticism with a spin move after getting hit at the 2 and then reaching for the end zone. A 49-yard pass to McCoy set up the score. One play after Brent Celek turned a tight-end screen pass into a 42-yard gain, McCoy ran in untouched from the 1. The Redskins drove to the Eagles 8 before Griffin was sacked by Connor Barwin and fumbled. The ball popped straight up and was recovered by Fletcher Cox. The Eagles turned that into a 24-yard field goal by Alex Henery to make it 17-0. McCoy left briefly after injuring his right hamstring in the second quarter and scored on a 1-yard run to put the Eagles up 24-0 in the third. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. Air Max 720 NZ Online . -- As expected, Denver Broncos slot receiver Wes Welker was officially ruled out of this weekends game at Houston. Hes also expected to be held out of the Broncos regular-season finale at Oakland on Dec. 29 as a precaution against a third head injury this month, which would end his season. The Broncos (11-3) are hoping to gain home-field advantage in the playoffs and a first-round bye that would give Welker more than a months rest. He hasnt played since leaving the Broncos Dec. 8 game against Tennessee shortly before halftime with his second concussion in a three-week span. He was cleared Thursday to resume light workouts. Welker has a career-high 10 touchdown catches on 73 receptions for 778 yards in his first season in Denver after six years as Tom Bradys favourite target in New England. Bubba Caldwell started in his place last week against San Diego with Eric Decker moving over to the slot. Caldwell caught six passes for 59 yards and two TDs, his first multi-score game of his six-year NFL career. But the Broncos, who are averaging 38.2 points a game, also had their lowest output of the season in a 27-20 loss to the Chargers. Also ruled out against the Texans (2-12) was rookie cornerback Kayvon Webster, who had surgery Monday to repair two fractures in his right thumb. "Everything is good," coach John Fox said. "He missed this week just because he is recovering from an actual surgery. You dont want to risk any kind of infection. Players health and safety first. But I think next week there is more of an opportunity in a cast that he could be able to play." Webster first told the Broncos medical staff of his injury after tackling Chargers running back Ryan Mathews following a 1-yard catch on the fourth play of the third quarter, but Webster revealed Friday that he actually injured his thumb covering a punt in the first half and played through the swelling and pain before letting anyone know he was hurt. Even then, he never came out. After the game, X-rays revealed two breaks and the following day he needed an operation in which seven pins and five screws were inserted. He was told hell be in a cast for four weeks, he said. Webster said hes been doing field work on his own and intends to return to practice Wednesday and not miss any more games. Also, defensive end Derek Wolfe will miss his fourth straight game as he continues his recovery after suffering what the team called seizure-like symptoms on the bus ride to the airport Nov. 29. The Broncos signed former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Jeremy Mincey this week to shore up their defensive front and help hold the edges that were exposed in their loss to San Diego in which the Chargers ran for more than 100 yards on first down. Mincey was released by the Jaguars Friday after a falling out with the front office that gave him a four-year, $20 million contract last year when he was coming off an eight-sack season. The Broncos feel that Mincey will be rejuvenated by his second chance in Denver, where he was greeted by familiar faces in defensive co-ordinator Jack Del Rio, his former head coach whom he thrived under in Jacksonville, and former Jaguars run-stuffer Terrance Knighton. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Wholesale Jordan Retro 11 . -- Amari Cooper tied his own school record with 224 yards receiving and caught three touchdown passes in No. 2 Alabamas 55-44 comeback victory over No. 15 Auburn on Saturday night in the highest-scoring Iron Bowl. Quarterback Blake Sims and the Crimson Tide (11-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference) turned to the Heisman Trophy contender for touchdown strikes of 39 and 75 yards in the third quarter. Alabama had already clinched a spot in the SEC championship game against No. 17 Missouri, and the top team in the College Football Playoff rankings scored 28 consecutive points heading into the final seconds. Auburn (8-4, 4-4) surged ahead 36-27 before losing its third straight SEC game in a season that once also carried playoff hopes. Sims passed for 312 yards and four touchdowns, but threw three interceptions. Auburns Nick Marshall had 456 yards passing, 206 to Sammie Coates. Alabamas trip to Atlanta was sealed about 30 minutes before kickoff when Mississippi knocked off No. 4 Mississippi State, 31-17. The playoff positioning came into question after a slow start, but the Tide offence succeeded where the defence failed. The rivalry that produced last seasons most memorable play -- Auburns 109-yard return of a missed field goal on the final play -- this time turned into a shootout. It showcased Sims-to-Cooper and Marshall-to-Coates with plenty of runs as well. Auburn gained 630 yards against the SECs top defence. Lane Kiffins Alabama offence racked up 539 yards. The previous high score in the Iron Bowl came in 1969, a 49-26 Auburn victory. This one trounced that total. Cooper, who had 13 catches, gained 141 yards in the third quarter alone. Coates scored on touchdowns of 34 and 68 yards on five catches for Auburn. Teammate Dhaquille Williams, who had missed the past two games with a knee injury, gained 121 yards on seven catches. Alabamas T.J. Yeldon ran for 127 yards and a pair of scores. The SECs top rushing defence made it hard going for the No. 1 rusher, holding Auburns Cameron Artis-Payne to 77 yards on 25 runs. Sims overcame his uncharacteristic mistakes to start the comeback with thes 75-yarder to a streaking Cooper when Auburn pushed its lead to nine. The Tide quarterback then pulled a Marshall-like play, scampering for an 11-yard touchdown run and converting the 2-point play to take the lead for good. Sims took Alabama right back downfield after a defensive stop. He hit DeAndrew White for a 6-yard score, but was stopped short on the 2-point try. Marshall and Coates answered with a 53-yard connection to put Auburn in position to score again. Nick Perry brought Marcus Davis down a yard shy on fourth-and-8 deep in Tide territory to effectively end the threat. Daniel Carlson kicked five field goals for Auburn while the Tigers scored 10 points in the final 54 seconds of the first half for a 26-21 lead. It prompted Tide coach Nick Saban to proclaim: Thats about as bad a half of football as weve played all year. Cheap Jordan 11 Canada . Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma didnt make any excuses for goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury a day after a stunning 4-3 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference first-round series. Brewers Eric Thames Jersey . Bylsma explained that he wasnt particularly pleased when Fleury misplayed the puck late in the third period on a sequence that allowed Brandon Dubinsky to tie the game with 24 seconds to play. "Typically the rule of thumb (when) the pucks on the glass is to stay in the net," Bylsma told reporters on Thursday. "This one was on the glass bouncing and Marc knows he should have stayed in the net." Fleury gave up the winner in overtime on a Nick Foligno wrist shot and the Penguins are tied 2-2 with Columbus heading back to Pittsburgh for Game 5. Bylsma was just as upset at the fact that Pittsburgh surrendered a 3-0 road lead in Game 4 and eventually lost the game. "The work and compete and the battle level has probably been the most troubling thing for our team," he said. Last night (to) get up three goals in the game and they were the team that worked...the most troubling, its got to be raised." Outside of goaltending, Bylsma called for more production from all of his players, including stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. "Theyre our best players," he added. "We need more from our whole team. And we need more from them." Fleury looks to get the nod in goal again on Saturday, as Bylsma said there were no injury or lineup updates to pass along before Game 5. Despite finishing 16 points ahead of the Blue Jackets in the regular season, Bylsma said he expected nothing less from his first round opponents. "We expect this to be tough, we expect it to be a tough series...were in a battle with Columbus, no matter who it is... we can go out there and win this series and move on and we know its going to be tough." MINNEAPOLIS -- The Detroit Tigers had Kevin Correia on the ropes in the second inning but missed their first chance to knock him out. Lucas Patrick Jersey . They didnt miss their second. Torii Hunter had two hits and two RBIs in the Tigers seven-run third inning that propelled them to a 10-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night. "We just got pitches that we could drive," said Hunter, who doubled twice among his three hits. "He left some balls up where we could capitalize on them. This guy pitches really well against us. We dont score many runs off him. But tonight we felt good at the plate and I think we were a little patient today and got some pitches we could handle." Nick Castellanos had a home run and three RBIs to back Rick Porcello (3-1), who gave up four runs and six hits with four strikeouts in five-plus innings for the Tigers. Rajai Davis added three hits to raise his average to .354. Correia (0-3) gave up eight runs -- seven earned -- and eight hits in 2 1-3 innings for Minnesota. It was his shortest outing since going just two innings last Aug. 5 against the Royals. Chris Colabello drove in his 27th run for the Twins, setting a franchise record for RBIs in April. Jason Kubel had two doubles among his three hits for the Twins. Brian Dozier hit his seventh homer of the season and Kurt Suzuki drove in two runs, giving him 19 RBIs on the year, which leads all catchers. Correia served up a two-run homer to Castellanos in the second -- and probably only got through that inning thanks to a poor decision by third base coach Dave Clark to send slow-footed Alex Avila from first base on a double by Andrew Romine. Avila was thrown out at home and Ian Kinsler grounded out to short-circuit the rally. "I was missing from the get-go," Correia said. "Balls were just kind of running back over the middle. I got away with it for an inning or so and then it caught up to me." But the Tigers had more in store for Correia. Hunter led off the third with a double and, after Miguel Cabreras groundout, the next five batters reached base with three hits and two walks, the last one from Romine with the bases loaded to make it 5-1. Hunter added a two-run single off Anthony Swarzak later in the inning that pushed the lead to 9-1. "They teach that in baseball: The most important inning is the inning after your team scores," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "We were able to bounce back and score not just a few but seven." There are no statements delivered in April, but the Tigers did throw a little cold water on what has been a surprising start to the season for the Twins. Minnesota has lost at least 96 games in each of the past three years, but rode the second-highest scoring offence in the American League to an 11-10 start that put the Twins right on heavily favoured Detroits heels in the AL Central. "Its something positive you can build off of and thats what were going to do, try to carry it over to the next day," Hunter said. "Usually when you get a loss, as a human being you kind of think about that negative and it can carry over and linger. But since we won and its positive, just try to build off it." After breezing through the first five innings, Porcello didnt get an out in the sixth before being lifted for Justin Miller. Ausmus had to use five more pitchers to finish the game, but that big third inning gave his team plenty of cushion to absorb a four-run sixth by the Twins. Portland, which sat starting forward LaMarcus Aldridge, ends the regular season on a five-game winning streak. Seeded fifth in the Western Conference, Portland will face the Rockets in a first-round series starting Sunday in Houston. Jamal Crawford had 34 points for the Clippers, who didnt play Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. The team set the franchise record for most regular season wins (57) the night before with a victory over Denver. Going into the game the Clippers had a chance to secure the No. 2 seed in the West. But when Oklahoma City defeated Detroit earlier Wednesday, the Clippers sewed up the third seed and will face Golden State in the opening round starting Saturday. Paul, Griffin and J.J. Reddick did not make the trip to Portland. The team had already announced that Griffin would not play when the league suspended him for the game because he had accumulated 16 technical fouls. Portland played its starters all 12 minutes apiece in the first half. Lopez was the only starter who started the second half for the Blazers. Nicolas Batum, Wesley Matthews and Damian Lillard did not play again. The Clippers closed to within 74-73 in the third quarter after Crawford hit a driving layup, two 3-pointers and a free throw. Los Angeles went ahead 81-78 on Matt Barnes 3. Portland reclaimed the lead when Freelands basket with just under 10 minutes left to make it 89-87. Crawford made a 3-pointer that put the Clippers in front 96-94, but Barton answered with his own 3 with 4:37 left. Victor Clavers 3-pointer gave the Blazers a 106-100 lead and all but sealed the win with 1:58 to go. Saskatchewans Sheepdogs kicked off the festivities before kickoff with "Feeling Good," mirroring the mood of Rider Nation. The Saskatoon band played two songs on a small stage near the north endzone, with a small crowd in front. He pitched on 10 days rest after missing a start due to elbow tendinitis. "That was the right decision," Wainwright said of skipping an outing. "I felt real good all game. Sometimes you never know how youre going to respond when you havent thrown very much. But I was fine. "The only time I even felt anything in my arm at all was my first swing where Cole Hamels jammed me and I grounded to third." Wainwright needed to be on his game to beat Hamels in a matchup of heavyweight arms. "It was a pitchers duel as advertised," Philadelphia manager Ryne Sandberg said. "Both guys were outstanding." Wainwright was slightly better. He never let a runner get beyond second base except in the third when the Phillies scored their only run. Wainwright, who lowered his ERA to 2.08, threw 104 pitches, 68 for strikes. "All of his pitches were sinking, and he mixed them up well," Philadelphia catcher Carlos Ruiz said. St. Louis manager Mike Matheny was impressed with Wainwrights command following the layoff. "Its just amazing how sharp he was," he said. "It looked like the Adam weve watched all season." Trevor Rosenthal backed up Wainwright by striking out two in the ninth to earn his 21st save in 24 attempts. Hamels (2-4) gave up three runs and seven hits over 7 11-3 innings. Chance Warmack Jersey. He had a scoreless streak of 24 2-3 innings snapped on Matt Adams second-inning sacrifice fly. Hamels refused to speak with reporters after the game. Holliday ripped a one-out double to bring in Matt Carpenter and break the 1-1 tie. Carpenter coaxed a leadoff walk to begin the eighth. "At that point in the game, youre looking at having a chance to win if you can scratch across one run," Holliday said. "Luckily, (Hamels) left it up a little and I put a good swing on it." St. Louis added two more runs in the eighth to go up 4-1. Jhonny Peralta brought in Holliday with an infield ground out, and Adams followed with his second sacrifice fly of the game. "We grinded it out," Matheny said. "Were getting good at those close games by just staying the course." Philadelphia had tied it 1-1 in the third inning on successive singles by Cody Asche and Hamels, and a sacrifice fly by Jimmy Rollins. Asche, who grew up in nearby OFallon, Missouri, recorded his first hit at Busch Stadium. Rollins extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the eighth inning. ATLANTA -- J. Daniel Kilgore Jersey .R. Smith gave the Knicks a lift in a rare start before Carmelo Anthony assumed his normal lead role against the Hawks. Anthony continued his success against Atlanta by scoring 25 points and New York regrouped after blowing a 17-point lead to beat the Hawks 95-91 on Wednesday night. It was an important win for the Knicks, who were coming off an ugly 120-89 loss to San Antonio on Sunday. "Oh, man, it was a great way to kind of get back on track," Anthony said. "Any time you can win on the road, thats always a big win." Anthony averaged 41 points against the Hawks in two games last season, bringing his career average against Atlanta to 26.9. Smith, last seasons Sixth Man of the Year, made his first start since March 9, 2012, at Milwaukee. He came off the bench in each of his 80 games last season. Smith was suspended the first five games this season for violating the NBAs anti-drug program. Coach Mike Woodson said before the game he started Smith instead of Pablo Prigioni to "see if we can get off to a better start." Smith did his part, making three of four 3-pointers in the opening period as the Knicks took a 29-24 lead. Prigioni started the second quarter and followed Smiths lead, sinking a 3-pointer to give the Knicks their first double-digit lead at 36-26. Smith finished with 12 points in only his second game of the season after off-season knee surgery. "I kind of went over my limit with him," Woodson said. "He played 32 minutes and I didnt want to go over 30. But its tough when youre trying to win games and youre turning to your trainer and asking how many minutes hes on the floor.... It makes it a little tough." The Knicks committed only six turnovers. The Hawks had 15, including four by rookie point guard Dennis Schroder in less than 9 minutes. New York outscored Atlanta 30-23 in the final period. "Much better effort than we put forth in that San Antonio game," Anthony said. "Im glad to see that we responded in that fashion and put that game behind us." The Knicks, relying on 3-pointers, led 47-30 in the second period and 55-45 at halftime. New York made only 5 of 25 shots from the field while being outscored 23-10 in the third period, leaving the Hawks with a 68-65 lead. "We took some quick shots," Anthony said. "I took some quick shots. We just had to settle down and get our composure back, get our momentum back and go from there." Anthony and the Knicks regained control after the Hawks led 78-72 early in the fourth quarter. Anthony made a free throw, driving layup and a 3-pointer to launch an 11-0 run that gave New York the lead. Andrea Bargnanis 3-pointer capped the run. Anthony made 9 of 25 shots from the field. "Hes a heck of a player," said Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer. "I feel like a lot of the night we made Carmelo work for his shots, but because hes a great player he was able to make some of those tough shots. At that big moment, they needed him to step up and he did. Its a credit to Carmelo." Bargnani had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and rookie Tim Hardaway Jr. had 14 points for New York. Jeff Teague led Atlanta with 25 points and eight assists. Al Horford had 23 points. Horford said the Hawks must learn to finish out games. "I feel good about our team," Horford said. "We just need to learn how to hold the leads and finish out these games. Weve let some of these slip away, so we need to be better in that regard." Teague said the Hawks are still coming together in Budenholzers first season. "We made mistakes," Teague said. "Were still a new group and were still trying to figure one another out. Were getting better every game. (The Knicks) have been together for a while." The Knicks made eight of their first 16 3-pointers. The Hawks missed their first nine 3s before Cartier Martin ended the drought late in the second period. NOTES: Hawks G Lou Williams has been cleared for full participation in practice as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Jan. 18. ... Kyle Korver made two 3-pointers and has at least one 3 in 81 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in NBA history behind Dana Barros (89). ... New Yorks Metta World Peace had four points on his 34th birthday. ... Teague made 11 of 14 free throws. ... Martin had 13 points for Atlanta. Andre Branch Jersey . LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. Curtis Samuel Jersey . -- The Chicago Cubs obtained the right-handed outfield bat they needed, acquiring Justin Ruggiano from the Miami Marlins for lefty swinging Brian Bogusevic. The deal was announced at baseballs winter meetings Thursday. Ruggiano, who turns 32 in April, has played parts of five big league seasons with Tampa Bay (2007-08, 2011) and Miami (2012-13). He hit a career-high 18 homers in 472 at-bats for Miami last year. Hes a .251 hitter for his career. In 317 games, he has 37 homers and 109 RBIs. The Cubs had left-handers Nate Schierholtz and Ryan Sweeney in the outfield, making Bogusevic available for trades. Bogusevic, who turns 30 in February, hit .273 with six homers and 16 RBI in 47 games last year. In 299 games over four years -- the first three in Houston -- Bogusevic has 17 homers and 62 RBIs with a .273 average. He could help fill the hole created by lefty Logan Morrison, who was dealt to Seattle on Wednesday for reliever relief pitcher Carter Capps. J.J. Jansen Jersey .Y. -- As if the worst start in franchise history isnt bad enough, Buffalo Sabres President Ted Black braced his teams win-starved fans for potentially more tough times. Cranes career as a figure skating judge has spanned over 40 years. We dont look at birth certificates around here That was Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice responding to a question about the big per-game minutes Mark Scheifele (21) and Jacob Trouba (20) will play this season. Despite both being in only their second full NHL seasons, they will be relied upon to be contributors, or players that can help us win, as Coach Maurice puts it. And that is totally fine with both players. Scheifele, along with many other NHL players, spent the summer working out under the guidance of former long-time NHLer Gary Roberts. I dont think I took a day off in the summer. I made huge gains. I ate the right food, drank the right water and did everything I could to put the best things into my body and make myself the strongest and fastest I can be. Upon their return to the NHL the Jets made Scheifele their first pick in the 2011 Draft. Following an excellent pre-season he played seven regular season games, scored his first NHL goal in Toronto, and was then sent back to the Barrie Colts of the OHL. After his junior season was done, he joined the IceCaps for their playoffs. What would have been his second training camp was wiped out by the lockout. Because he was a first round pick he was able to leave his junior team and join the Jets for a very short camp. He played four regular season games before going back to the OHL where he became a dominant player, putting up big time numbers in both the regular season and playoffs. But many viewed his return to junior as the Jets made a bad selection. He will not be the player they thought he would be. That is all history now following a 13-21-34 output in 63 games last season. And he was playing the best hockey of the season when he went down with a knee injury and was done for the year. He recorded 29 points, including 12 goals in his final 39 games. In his first 16 games under Coach Maurice he went 6-5-11. But it may very well have been a late November six-game road trip where it became clear that he was an NHL player. He scored the first goal of the trip in New Jersey and the final goal of the trip – an overtime winner in Tampa. And coincidence or not, the Jets were on an 11-3-1 run when he got hurt and as other injuries piled up, won only seven of the remaining 19. What turned out to be a huge positive for Scheifele was Maurice being named to the coaching staff of Team Canada for the World Championship in Belarus. It was a big help to my mental state to play in the Worlds after my knee injury. I didnt have to worry about the knee coming into camp. Plus I learned a lot. By the end of the tournament Scheifele became one of the teams best face-off men. Over the summer Maurice toyed with what his lines may look like to start the season. The combination that drew a lot of discussion, and anticipation, was Scheifele between Blake Wheeler and Evander Kane. Three players will skill, size and speed. Unfortunately early in Game 1 Kane suffered a lower body injury, so that experiiment has been put on hold. Kyle Love Jersey. Jacob Trouba was the Jets top pick in the 2012 Draft, number nine overall. He joined the team the following spring but did not play. After a very good training camp, he made the team for the 2013-14 season. His rookie year was probably WAY more than anyone expected. He played 25:02 in his NHL debut, a road game in Edmonton. He was a plus-2 and scored his first NHL goal. To Trouba, the big minutes were no big deal. He always played big minutes, so why not at this level? All went well until an injury in the eighth game of the year put him out for 17 games. When all was said and done he set a franchise record for goals scored by a rookie defenceman with 10 (including a short-handed goal and an overtime goal), led all rookies in per-game average ice time at 22:26 including a career high of 27:43 in a home game in March against Vancouver, and 21 times led the Jets in per-game ice time as he played in all situations. Like Scheifele his hockey season too ended with a trip to the World Championship, as he was part of Team USA. An injury brought him home early, but did not keep him from a hard summer of preparation. Going into his second season Trouba knows his role will be expanded. Coach has made that very clear, and that is fine with him. Trouba feels hes gotten off to a slow start. There are areas I need to be better at and I will work on that. Need to move the puck a little quicker for one. Both players know it will not be easier in year two. They perhaps flew under the radar for a bit of last season, but that will not be the case this season. Although opposition teams did try and expose the two youngsters last season, without a whole lot of success. When asked about the two, this from Coach Maurice. The sophomore jinx is not on the player, its on the expectations of what happens to a man for four months, five months, in the summer. They are five months older, not five-year vets. So my expectations are that Im hoping for both those guys to be a bit better than they were last year and that would be a good curve. We wont do it statistically, whether Scheif scores 12, it wont be looked at as a down year, its about development, getting on the ice, playing harder roles probably first, giving them tougher assignments. But I didnt look at those two guys names on the board and expect them to go from five months older to being a lot better than the rest of the guys in the league. That being said, in our structure and on our team, weve got them in really important positions. Positions that sometimes take players years to get to. So they are going to have some times where they look like theyve really come on and well be excited about that, and there is going to be times both struggle a bit with their role. Weve asked them to do a big job. Yes, the NHL has become a young league, and Mark Scheifele and Jacob Trouba are two great examples. But both are ready for the challenge that lies ahead.
