The Patriots have struggled in Miami in recent years. But the Dolphins are going to struggle wherever they go this year Womens Chase Allen Jersey , so that figured to matter less. The Patriots easily handled the Dolphins 43-0 Sunday, setting aside what has recently been a tough trip for them.Prior to this week, the Patriots had lost five of their last six in South Florida, for reasons no one really understands. It was easy Sunday, however, as the Dolphins gained just 184 yards. They had 38 yards at the end of the third quarter, so the arrow is clearly trending up. Or something. They pulled quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick after his second pick-six of the day (Stephon Gilmore and Jamie Collins accepted his gifts). Fitzpatrick was 11-of-21 for 89 yards and three total interceptions. Poor Josh Rosen might have an argument to play more Davon Godchaux Jersey , but it’s worth wondering if he wants to, after he was picked off on the final play of the game. The Patriots put together a solid first drive and never had to look back. They threw to new wideout Antonio Brown early, and he finished his first game with four catches for 56 yards and the touchdown.Beyond that, they just had to run the ball and kill time. Running back Sony Michel finished with 85 yards and a touchdown, and Tom Brady had a clean 20-of-28 for 264 yards and two touchdowns kind of day. Also, the Dolphins have to do this 14 more times, after being outscored 102-10 in two games. The Dolphins were a little frustrated and did a little pushing and shoving http://www.thedolphinslockerroom.com/authentic-albert-wilson-jersey , after Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson took a knee to end the first half. They should have been happy, as it was their best defensive play of the day.The Ravens are up 42-10, and the Dolphins’ plan is working perfectly. There are so many things going wrong for Miami it has to be on purpose, as organizing this kind of calamity would take too much work.Jackson has a perfect passer rating (158.3) through the first half, as he’s 10-of-11 for 210 yards and four touchdowns. Rookie wide receiver Marquise Brown has four catches for 147 yards himself, including touchdowns on his first two NFL receptions. But the Ravens are also kind of rubbing it in. Up 35-3 in the second quarter, they called a fake punt Womens Daniel Kilgore Jersey , and ran for a 60 yard gain. It was probably unnecessary, but it’s not John Harbaugh’s obligation to have the Dolphins ready.Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a touchdown late in the half to become the first player in league history to throw for a score for eight different teams. Of course, that happened way after he offered one up to new Ravens safety Earl Thomas to record an interception for all eight as well.

Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks: Report card yet again high on offense http://www.theramslockerroom.com/authentic-sean-mannion-jersey , low on defense QuarterbacksI don’t care about the interceptions, I care about the leadership and Jared Goff was poised and in control. What drove home this “A grade” for me was his QB sneak at the end of the game and his celebration afterwards — that passion is contagious and it’s been lacking a bit with Goff in the past. And 321 yards is nothing to sneeze at.Running BacksRB Todd Gurley II once again proved that he’s the heart and soul of the offense, rushing and catching passes all over the field, piling up 113 all-purpose yards with 3 touchdowns. The answer to the Los Angeles Rams’ red zones issues has been a large dose of Todd Gurley and he hasn’t disappointed. Wide Receivers Am I being too generous since they only had one touchdown? Nope. While Cooper Kupp’s impressive after the catch scramble into the end zone was much needed, the momentum of the offense relied heavily on WR Robert Woods — the guy was everywhere, accumulating 92 yards on 5 catches. That does’t seem like a lot, but watching the game, it felt like Woods was dominating the Seahawks’ secondary all game. The biggest concern has to be the two concussions in the first half that befell WR Cooper Kupp and WR Brandin Cooks. The Cooks hit was pretty violent and while I don’t think it was a dirty play Womens Aaron Donald Jersey , it could be a serious health issue for Cooks going forward.Tight EndsTE Tyler Higbee and TE Gerald Everett both showed up and were almost great. Same old same old. Offensive LineThe Rams’ offensive line is usually the best unit of the team, but this week they showed some minor cracks in their armor, allowing Goff to get roughed up a bit. Defensive LineThe Seahawks’ offense moved the ball on the ground to the tune of 190 yards, making our feared defensive line look like a bunch of pushovers. They had their moments with a couple of sacks, but things need to be tightened up moving forward. LinebackersI felt like ILB Cory Littleton had some legit moments, like his clutch psss deflection near the end of the game, but the unit as a whole was just a bit off. ILB Mark Barron was a welcome addition, but the chemistry seemed to lack polish John Sullivan Jersey , allowing Seattle’s run game to flourish.Defensive BacksRussell Wilson’s 3 touchdown passes were a product of Seattle’s ability to exploit the Rams’ secondary, making CB Marcus Peters look silly at times. I also hated CB Troy Hill’s uncesscary roughness penalty, which was the essence of a bonehead play. The defensive backs made the D look sloppy and undisciplined. CB Aqib Talib can’t come back fast enough.Special TeamsThey recovered a blocked punt! LB Cory Littleton has made a name for himself on special teams, which is hard to do, blocking his second punt of the season. Cairo Santos was 2/2 on his field goals, even though he missed an extra point (please come back soon, Greg Zuerlein!) And Blake Countess was very impressive with his kick returns with 98 yards on 4 attempts.CoachingWhen you go for it on 4th down at the end of the game and it works out, you look like a genius. If it hadn’t resulted in a first down and the Seahawks ended up scoring on the next game-winning drive http://www.theramslockerroom.com/authentic-todd-gurley-jersey , you’d be looking at a big fat red F above this text. Such is football. I felt that Coach McVay burned his second half timeouts too early, but it didn’t factor into the game, so it’s much ado about nothing at this point. When you look at the coaching in hindsight, you have to respect the gutsy decision to trot Goff out there to sneak the ball over the first down marker. The Dolphins’ fire sale could continue this week. The team’s trade of defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick is “likely to be wrapped up” by Tuesday Womens Chris Jones Jersey , Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.La Canfora mentions Washington, the Cowboys, Chiefs Mitchell Schwartz Jersey , Steelers, Eagles and Seahawks as those who have inquired about Fitzpatrick. It goes along with what Armando Salguero of the reported Sunday. Salguero said three teams are “seriously interested,” and the Dolphins should have a deal completed this week. The Cowboys have dropped out of the derby http://www.chiefslockerroom.com/authentic-ron-parker-jersey , according to Salguero. The Dolphins reportedly are looking for a first-round pick and “something else” in order to deal Fitzpatrick, which would seem to limit the number of interested parties. CINCINNATI (AP) — A.J. Green ran a deep route along the left sideline and caught Andy Dalton’s pass in stride White Donald Trump Jerseys , a sight the Bengals desperately missed during their last-place season.Green has fully recovered from surgery on his right big toe, the most promising development in an offseason of regrouping. He was limited in the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, but only because the new coaching staff didn’t want to push him too hard.“A.J.’s been cleared to do everything,” first-year coach Zac Taylor said. “But we’re just going to put him out in individual (drills) and let him run around a little bit and not do any of the team stuff. I know what to expect from A.J., so it will be good just to see him catch balls from the quarterbacks. But we’re not going to give him too much work.”Green missed nearly half of last season with a torn ligament in the toe . He finished with 46 catches for 694 yards — both career lows — and six touchdowns. The Bengals also lost Dalton for the last five games with a turn thumb ligament.A last-place finish in the AFC North prompted the Bengals to fire coach Marvin Lewis and hire Taylor from the Rams . The offense finished last in the league in 2017 and near the bottom again last season. The main focus for the offense in minicamp is learning yet another new system. Brian Callahan is the Bengals’ third offensive coordinator in the last three years, a dizzying rate of change that has contributed to the poor showings.Although Green hasn’t been able to fully participate in offseason workouts, Dalton thinks their eight seasons together will compensate for the missed time.“I understand how A.J. runs routes,” Dalton said. “There’s obviously going to be some new stuff that we’re doing now Donald Trump Jerseys 2019 , but it’s easier with guys like that. It’s easier with guys I’ve thrown to and I know how they work.”Tight end Tyler Eifert was held out of practice as he recovers from a broken ankle that sidelined him for the last 12 games. He signed another one-year deal. Eifert has been limited to 14 games over the last three years because of injuries to his back and ankle.TOP PICK LIMITEDLeft tackle Jonah Williams wore a jersey but didn’t participate in the afternoon practice. Taylor said Williams, the 11th overall pick in the draft, got “a little dinged-up” during practice last week. It’s unclear how long he’ll be held out of practice.NEW GUYGuard John Jerry signed a day before minicamp, replacing second-year guard Rod Taylor, who was waived. Jerry has been with the Dolphins and Giants during his eight-year career, sitting out last season.COACHESFormer Bengals linebacker Brandon Johnson and cornerback Cortland Finnegan are this year’s coaching interns as part of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship program. Johnson was with the Bengals from 2008-11 and is currently the head coach at Betty Fairfax High School in suburban Phoenix. Finnegan spent 11 seasons with the Titans, Rams, Dolphins and Panthers. Ivan Fears spoke positively about the second-year man."The New England Patriots surprised many last April when they invested their second of two first-round draft picks in the running back position: with the 31st overall selection White Stephen Gostkowski Jerseys , the team chose Georgia’s Sony Michel to help fill the void created by Dion Lewis’ free agency departure. While a stylistically different player than his de facto predecessor, Michel was able to establish himself as the early-down back Lewis used to be in 2017.In that role, the rookie appeared in 16 of the Patriots’ 19 games in 2018 — including all three playoff contests — and finished the year with a combined 1,276 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 280 attempts. Despite having to work his way back from two separate knee injuries suffered in training camp and half-way through the regular season, respectively, Michel produced one of the better rookie seasons in New England’s recent memory.Needless to say that expectations are high for the 24-year-old heading into his second year: he has proven himself a key cog in the Patriots’ offensive machinery last season, and is now looking to make the famed second-year jump. One person who sounds optimistic about Michel’s abilities to succeed at improving his game even further is running backs coach Ivan Fears, who spoke about his protégé during a recent media availability session.“He’s got a lot of time now to learn about the things that he can do a hell of a lot better Stephen Gostkowski Jerseys 2019 ,” said Fears. “You can always improve, everybody can improve. He’s got to take that next step to build on what he started and that’s what we expect of him. We expect him to learn, we expect him to grow as a player and as a teammate. Sony’s going to work hard, no doubt about it. I’m excited about what we expect to see from him next year.”Fears is one of the more outspoken members of the Patriots’ coaching staff, so hearing him express his excitement about Michel’s outlook entering 2019 is noteworthy — but reasonable nevertheless considering how his rookie campaign went: Michel was trusted with a heavy workload and significant role early into his NFL career, but regularly appeared to be able to meet the coaching staff’s expectations. He therefore can be seen as a role model for other players coming to New England, as Fears pointed out: “He’s definitely a guiding light when it comes to that situation. Everybody can see that you can play and you can produce as a rookie, but you’ve got to put the work in. You have to put the work in. It’s not going to be given to you. You have to come in and you have to earn it. If they want to see an example of a guy who’s done that White Matthew Slater Jerseys , he’s the guy.”Entering his second year as a pro, Michel and the Patriots will hope not just for a repeat performance of his solid rookie season but for further growth as one of the league’s most intriguing young running backs. If that happens, New England’s ground game — one that also saw the addition of third-round draft pick Damien Harris this year — could become even tougher to defend than it already was for stretches in 2018.Fears, however, has his eyes on the task at hand: getting the Patriots’ rookie class up to speed quickly and the veterans like Michel ready via the club’s offseason workout program. “You’ve got to love this, you’ve got to love what you do, you’ve got to have a passion for the sport,” the coach said. “This is where you start building your championship team. If they’re not loving this right now Matthew Slater Jerseys 2019 , move on, get out of the way, because this is where it all starts.”For Michel specifically, the offseason program is the foundation upon which he will build his 2019 campaign — and potentially the starting point for yet another productive season as the Patriots’ top running back option.

During the Senior Bowl, Mike Mayock made the comment, “I think everyone knows we could use some speed at the wide receiver position.” Playing against the Chiefs twice a year, the Raiders learned first hand the value of having game breakers on the outside. With so many holes that need to be plugged it might be wise to take a look at other positions in round one but it sure would be fun to watch an offense with Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, and Hollywood Brown. Last week, we took a look at where they Raiders stood relative to the rest of the league based on Football Outsiders’ 30,000 weekly simulations. These simulations are guided by a mixture of preseason projections and DVOA, the football answer to baseball’s WAR statistic. If you’d like to know more about DVOA, click here. After grabbing a key win against Detroit on Sunday, Oakland’s playoff chances were boosted by 6.4 percent, sitting now at 32.3. This means that the Raiders make the playoffs in about a third of simulations, while the Chiefs make it in 90.8 percent of the time and the Chargers make it 9.6 percent of the time. With last week’s win, the Raiders odds at landing a top 5 pick dropped from 3.8 percent to 0.7 percent. But with the Bears’ recent skid, Oakland has a 8.2 percent shot at picking in the top 5 overall. Did somebody say Isaiah Simmons!?The most likely Super Bowl scenario that the Raiders could find themselves in would be a wild “Bay Area Bowl,” which occurs in 0.4 percent of simulations. The second most likely Super Bowl opponent that the Raiders could face if everything (and I mean everything) broke right would be the Green Bay Packers. That Week 7 rematch occurs in an infinitesimal 0.1 percent of simulations.DVOA Breakdown:RaidersOverall DVOA: 3.2 percent above average, No. 15 overallTeam Offense: 16.2 percent above average https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-antonio-brown-jersey , No. 5 overall(No. 3 overall in pass offense, No. 6 overall in Rush offense)Team Defense: 14.4 percent below average, No. 29 overall(No. 29 overall in pass defense, No. 11 overall in rush defense)ChargersOverall DVOA: 1 percent below average, No. 19 overallTeam Offense: 7.2 percent above average, No. 9 overall(No. 9 overall in pass offense, No. 25 overall in rush offense)Team Defense: 7.3 percent below average, No. 26 overall(No. 21 overall in pass defense, No. 25 overall in rush defense)DYAR Breakdown:Derek Carr moved up from No. 7 to No. 5 in Quarterback DYAR after a strong showing against the Lions. He sits only behind Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford and Deshaun Watson. On the other hand, Philip Rivers remains steady as ever at almost 38 years old, placing at No. 9 in overall Quarterback DYAR.Carr wasn’t the only Raider who moved up the list this past week, as Josh Jacobs’ excellent effort punched him up from No. 8 to No. 4 in Rushing DYAR. The Chargers best qualifying runner? Austin Ekeler, who does more work in the passing game and sits at No. 28 on the Rushing DYAR list. While Keenan Allen is thought to be one of the best receivers in the game, Tyrell Williams actually has a better Receiving DYAR than him in limited time. Allen ranks No. 22 in receiving DYAR this season, while Williams would be tied with Cooper Kupp at No. 14 if he had played enough snaps to qualify.Powering the way for Oakland is the Raiders beefy, bully-ball offensive line, which sits at No. 4 in adjusted line yards (a measure of run blocking success) and No. 2 in adjusted sack rate. The turnaround in the offensive line has been the major catalyst for this team’s overall DVOA ranking, and the impact has permeated throughout the rest of the offense. While aiming to overcome injuries, the Chargers offensive line surprisingly ranks No. 7 in adjusted sack rate, but they’re much worse paving the way for runners, placing at No. 21. Conversely, the Raiders defensive line places at No. 24 in adjusted sack rate, while the Chargers sit at No. 17. Considering that Los Angeles employs Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, that No. 17 ranking should rise by season’s end.

HOUSTON (AP)Ben Roethlisberger told his teammates they didn’t need to make up for Antonio Brown’s absence. He just wanted everyone to do what they could to help out Womens Jeff Allen Jersey , figuring that would be enough. It certainly was. ”I know everyone was thinking about A.B. not being out there and trying to fill those shoes, but you can’t fill those shoes,” Roethlisberger said. ”I just tried to tell them: `Don’t try to fill them, just try to be the best you can be.”’Article continues below ... Roethlisberger threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns in the first game since Brown injured his calf, and the Steelers clinched a first-round playoff bye with a 34-6 win over the Texans. Roethlisberger threw passes to six players as Pittsburgh (12-3) romped over the lowly Texans (4-11) despite missing the NFL’s leading receiver. ”It just kind of shows how many weapons we actually have in our offense … everybody played well,” Le’Veon Bell said. ”Ben made the plays when he needed to. I made some plays on third down when I needed to. It was literally a total team effort.” The Steelers led 20-0 at halftime after taking advantage of two turnovers by the Texans. Bell added a 10-yard TD run late in the third quarter and rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster made it 34-6 with an 18-yard touchdown grab in the fourth. Bell finished with 14 carries for 69 yards and Smith-Schuster had six receptions for 75 yards. ”Significant day for us,” Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said. ”Our last regular-season road game http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-arian-foster-jersey , finishing 7-1, getting our 12th win, securing a ticket to the second round. All very positive things, but it’s kind of the culmination of being singularly focused on the next opportunity.” T.J. Yates was 7 of 16 for 83 yards and a touchdown for the Texans, who lost their fifth straight game and for the eighth time in nine games. ”It’s brutal,” coach Bill O’Brien said of Houston’s skid. ”It’s been a tough year.” Yates made his second straight start since Tom Savage sustained a concussion. Yates left the game briefly on Monday to be evaluated for a concussion, and his replacement Jadeveon Clowney Jersey White , Taylor Heinicke, sustained a concussion on his only full possession. Roethlisberger was replaced by backup Landry Jones with about six minutes remaining and the game well in hand. The Steelers hurried and harassed Yates all day with Mike Hilton leading the way with three sacks and three quarterback hits, Cameron Heyward adding two and forcing a fumble. Hilton became the first cornerback with three sacks in a game since sacks became an official statistic in 1982. The Texans couldn’t do much right on a day their home stadium was overtaken by vocal Steelers fans waving their Terrible Towels. One of the few highlights came on an acrobatic 3-yard touchdown reception by DeAndre Hopkins in the fourth quarter. Hopkins deflected the ball with his right hand, reeled it in with his left and got both feet down before falling out of bounds for his NFL-best and franchise-record 13th touchdown reception. Hopkins may have been the only one who wasn’t impressed with the grab. ”I’m mad I didn’t catch it the first time,” he said. ”Like me, who I am, I was supposed to catch that one the first time with my right hand.” The Steelers took a 10-0 lead when Roethlisberger connected with Justin Hunter on a 5-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Alfred Blue had a 48-yard run on the first play of the second quarter to get the Texans to the Pittsburgh 18-yard line. The Texans got to the 1 on second down later in that drive http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-shane-lechler-jersey , but couldn’t do anything on the next two plays before Yates was intercepted in the end zone. Pittsburgh added a touchdown on a 1-yard run by Roosevelt Nix on the ensuing possession. Heyward sacked Yates three plays later and caused a fumble recovered by Bud Dupree to give the Steelers the ball right back. Pittsburgh added a 36-yard field goal on the next drive to push the lead to 20-0. Yates was sacked again on Houston’s next possession and injured on the play. He left the game to be evaluated for a concussion, forcing the Texans to play Heinicke. Heinicke finished that possession and remained in the game for the first drive of the third quarter while Yates was being evaluated. But Heinicke took a hard hit on a sack on the last play of that drive and had to be evaluated for a concussion, too. FAMILY TIME J.J. Watt didn’t get to play on Monday as he recovers from a broken leg, but spent some time pregame with his brother, Pittsburgh rookie linebacker T.J. Watt. Houston’s defensive end threw the ball around with T.J. and the brothers also posed for some pictures with their parents before the game. T.J. was disappointed that his brother didn’t get to play on Monday, but is looking forward to seeing him return next season. ”I wish he was out there just to be a dominant force for them,” T.J. said. ”But I know he’ll come back bigger Jordan Akins Jersey , faster and stronger.” INJURY UPDATE Houston cornerback Kevin Johnson injured his knee in the third quarter and didn’t return. … Texans safety Corey Moore also injured his knee in the second half and didn’t return. UP NEXT Steelers: Host the Browns on Sunday. Texans: Visit Indianapolis on Sunday. — Draft grades are the new mock drafts. Oh what could have been."I know by now you are already stuffed and sick of of draft grades. Tired of the national media, the haters and the losers, were you ever even a NFL scout?, bashing the Texans for making the picks they made. Handing out Cs and Ds and wondering what they were thinking. Rotoworld released their draft grades, and I finally found a positive one. Thor Nystrom gave the Texans a B, and that’s the highest grade I’ve seen for them yet. Here’s what he had to say:Oh what could have been if the Texans gave up two picks to select Dillard. Houston could have a no doubt pass protecting left tackle for this season. On the other side of the coin, his colleague at Rotoworld Evan Silva Tashaun Gipson Jersey White , was a member of the majority:It’s pretty much the same. One likes the Texans later round picks more than the other, which is more credit than the Texans have been given lately by the professional football talkin’ men.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jim Schwartz struggled to remember any of his former players still on the Detroit Lions other than Matthew Stafford.Long snapper Don Muhlbach Sam Martin Jersey , punter Sam Martin and cornerback Darius Slay also remain from the teams Schwartz coached from 2009-2013. Schwartz, now a Super Bowl champion defensive coordinator for the Eagles, will see all his guys when the Lions (1-0-1) visit Philadelphia (1-1) on Sunday.“It’s funny, I don’t recognize anybody on that team,” Schwartz said. “Stafford, the long snapper, the punter and then I think Darius Slay might be the only guys that were there. That shows you how much turnover there is in this league because it really doesn’t seem that long ago. Maybe it has been.”Article continues below ...Schwartz was a first-year head coach when Detroit drafted Stafford No. 1 overall in 2009. He was fired after going 7-9 in 2013, two years after helping the Lions reach the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. He was 29-51 over five seasons.“He was part of that process, so I appreciate him a lot for giving me the chance,” Stafford said. “We went to playoffs for the first time in a long time in this franchise’s history and did a lot of good things in kind of getting us to where we are now, which I’m proud of, and I know he is, too.”Schwartz has faced Stafford twice already. He was the defensive coordinator under Doug Marrone in Buffalo when the Bills beat the Lions in Detroit. Schwartz was carried off the field by Bills players. Stafford led the Lions to a home win over Schwartz and the Eagles in 2016.“Matt’s always been a guy that is a very accurate passer,” Schwartz said. “He’s not afraid to put a ball in any window. He’s got a strong arm. He can make all the throws. He’s a really good game manager. That’s gone maybe a little bit under the radar with him, and you can see that in the way they are playing. They are playing a little different scheme. They have a defensive head coach. They have an offensive coordinator that came from a run-first, Seattle-type scheme. So they have maybe a little bit different flavor, but he’s still a very dangerous guy. Goes to the right spot with the ball. Makes accurate throws and moves the ball around to a lot of different people.”Some things to watch for when the Eagles host the Lions:BANGED-UP BIRDSThe Eagles will likely be without their two top receivers. Alshon Jeffery has a calf strain and DeSean Jackson has an abdominal injury. Rookie J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and third-year pro Mack Hollins would start in their place with Nelson Agholor in the slot. Agholor had eight catches for 107 yards and one touchdown in a 24-20 loss to Atlanta. He also dropped what would’ve been a go-ahead 60-yard TD catch. Hollins had five catches for 50 yards and Arcega-Whiteside only caught one ball for 4 yards.LIMPING LIONSDetroit hopes linebacker Jarrad Davis can play for the first time since injuring his right ankle nearly a month ago in a preseason game. Lions offensive tackle Taylor Decker has been playing through a back ailment, which he said feels good some days and not so good on others.“Anyone who has had a back (injury), you know how they can be finicky,” Decker said.BAD MEMORIESThe last time Lions coach Matt Patricia faced the Eagles was in the Super Bowl on Feb. 4, 2018. The former New England defensive coordinator saw Nick Foles carve his unit for 41 points in a loss to the Eagles.“I personally try to not look back at that Super Bowl,” Patricia said.WHERE’S THE RUSHThe Eagles have only two sacks in two games and already have lost two defensive tackles to injury. Malik Jackson Calvin Johnson Jersey , who started opposite All-Pro Fletcher Cox inside, sustained a season-ending foot injury in Week 1. Tim Jernigan took his place but broke his foot last week. Hassan Ridgeway takes over for Jernigan. While there’s been a lot of shuffling at the tackle spots, edge rushers Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett and Josh Sweat haven’t been able to get to the quarterback, and that’s problematic.SLOW STARTSCarson Wentz and Philadelphia’s offense continue to start slow. The team has scored an NFL-low 41 points in the opening quarter since the start of last season.“I just have to find the magical plays,” coach Doug Pederson said.NFL 2018 predictions: Detroit Lions defensive player of the year We all know the Detroit Lions offense will live and die with Matthew Stafford, but perhaps the key to success in 2018 will be the other side of the ball. If the defense continues to flail, Stafford will only be able to take them so far. If Matt Patricia can work his magic, suddenly this team’s ceiling will be much higher. But which player will lead this defensive group. Who will come out as the defensive player of the year in 2018? We asked that question to all of our staff. These are their answers.Who will be the Lions’ defensive player of the year in 2018?Mike PaytonI think most people will go with Darius Slay here, and they won’t be wrong. Slay is easily one of the top two or three corners in the league. But for me, this defense is all going to roll through the veteran leadership of Glover Quin. Chris PefettDarius Slay. Finger wags will be had, things will be intercepted. Life goes on.Mansur ShaheenDarius Slay. There aren’t as many candidates for Lions Defensive MVP as I’d like there to be. Slay is far and away the most valuable player on this defense and his presence in the secondary makes up for the many weaknesses Detroit has elsewhere. He went toe-to-toe with some of the best in the business last season and there is no reason to believe he won’t be just as good again in 2018. The 2017 first-team All Pro is one of the best corners in the NFL and is one of the lone things to look forward to on out defense this season.Ryan MathewsDevon Kennard. The phrase “most valuable player” and “Lions defense” do not belong next to one another, but I have to pick someone. Nobody should throw in Darius Slay’s direction, which makes him uber-valuable as he shuts down his side of the field. Glover Quin will patrol the back end of this defense in a way few other safeties in the league can, but if I’m an opposing team, I’m picking on the rest of the secondary for four straight quarters. But the Lions might have a player who can make it difficult for visiting quarterbacks to get those throws off.If there was anything encouraging about the defense this preseason, it was Devon Kennard’s presence on the edge. He was the Lions most efficient pass rusher, and looks like he will have more opportunities and responsibilities here in Detroit than he had in New York with the Giants. Because his impact will be more quantifiable and potentially more realized down after down, Kennard has the opportunity to be Detroit’s most valuable defender in 2018.John Whiticar Darius Slay.I wanted to be bold and say someone like Quandre Diggs (I think he’ll have a good year at safety) or Devon Kennard. In the end, Slay is the cornerstone of this secondary, and on a defense lacking playmakers, Slay has been the lockdown corner they’ve needed. I don’t expect him to reach eight interceptions again this year Womens Zach Zenner Jersey , but that’s because teams will shy away from his direction (if they’re smart) and target someone like Nevin Lawson or Teez Tabor instead.Jeremy ReismanEzekiel Ansah. If there’s anyone who has flown under the radar this preseason, it’s oddly been one of the Lions’ best defensive players over the past four years, Ziggy. Yes, there are injury concerns. Yes, it appears his effectiveness may have worn off a little. Yes, he’s entering a new defensive system. But I think Ziggy has plenty left in the tank, and for a team desperate for pass rush, Matt Patricia is going to find every possible way to put Ansah in a position where he’s going to get to the passer. 10 sacks at a very minimum.Justin SimonIf the Lions have any hope on defense this year, they need Ezekiel Ansah to be MVP. Unfortunately I don’t see that happening. I’ll give it to Darius Slay. He has a chance to be the best cornerback in the NFL. He is a player on the rise and one if the true blue chip players the Lions have on the roster.Hamza Baccouche Glover Quin.Glover Quin has always been a top-tier performer at safety, even if he did so quietly. Last year that was especially the case as Darius Slay set a career high in interceptions, which meant Quin’s highlights were largely limited to consistent tackling, passes defended, and blanket coverage. Teryl Austin’s defensive philosophy relied on the secondary keeping everything in front of them, and Glover Quin was the key to making that work with his stellar play at free safety. With Matt Patricia’s bend-but-don’t-break style of defense, Quin will play just as pivotal a role, and, much like last year, it may not show up on the stat sheet but that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked. Kellie RoweBoasting an outrageous 2017, cornerback Darius Slay led the league in interceptions (eight) and passes defended (26) in a season where he made his first All Pro and Pro Bowl teams. This is also a season where he went up against some of the NFL’s top receivers, like Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham Jr., Julio Jones Kenny Golladay Jersey White , A.J. Green and more. Big Play Slay is ripe for another knockout season. He’s a physical player with the ability to disrupt the opposing teams’ top receivers who spent the offseason training with skilled defensive backs like Richard Sherman, Xavier Rhodes, Aqib Talib and Ahkello Witherspoon. He’s ready for 2018.Kent Lee PlatteIt’s going to be Darius Slay. It won’t be close. It’s going to be ugly. I hate to pick an obvious player here, but the Lions defense appears so bereft of talent that it really only comes down to one of three players. It’s either Slay, Glover Quin in his 30s, or the oft-injured Ezekiel Ansah. Easy choice for me. I expect this to look like a step back season for Slay as he’s forced to cover for longer than he’s used to, but he’ll still be the top player on this defense by a hot mile. Levi BlueI‘m going to give you two answers for this. Again, it’s tough to stray away from an obvious pick in Darius Slay. He’s easily a top 10 corner and consistently shows us why. Although he’s not the guy wearing the power helmet, he is, and will continue to be, one of the strongest weapons the Lions have, especially when it comes to defending the pass. That aspect of his game will be huge when when playing against Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins and an up-and-coming Mitchell Trubisky. However, I’d also love to see Ziggy get this honor. I hate to bring it back to the financial aspect of professional sports, but when you pay a single player $17+ million, you expect to see big results. Ansah is a fan favorite—who doesn’t love him?! I think we’d all love to see him get double-digit sacks, finally prove he can stay healthy and be the defensive monster we all hoped.Kyle YostDarius Slay. Here is the exact paragraph I wrote last season: “With weakness up front yet again, the Lions will struggle to put up any sort of pass rush. The more that Darius Slay can do to lock up a team’s best weapon, the less weight will fall on the rest of the defense. Slay still does not get the top-end recognition that other elite corners receive nationally, but a lockdown season could help continue to grow his name.”Jerry MalloryIt would be great if someone comes close to Slay for this award... provided Slay continues to play at his Pro Bowl level... which he will. Sadly, the odds of someone being as good as Big Play Slay are not likely. Perhaps a resurgence from Ziggy? Quin somehow has his best year after 30? Dream on. We are counting on those two to likely be top guys on this unit but Slay will be the top guy by a considerable amount.

Vasquez-USA TODAY SportsContinuing along the lines of pre-draft visits for the Los Angeles Rams is USC Trojans defensive back Iman Marshall, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network:Marshall is a four-year starter at cornerback for the Trojans, though a switch to safety might be his best move at the next level. Marshall is a well built defensive back as he stands 6’1” and 207 lbs. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has Marshall projected as a fourth-round draft pick. Here are some of Zierlein’s notes:In four years at USC, Marshall was able to amass 218 tackles, 9.5 tackles-for-loss Jamon Brown Jersey , six interceptions, and 36 pass deflections.A Long Beach, California native, Marshall wouldn’t have to move very far if the Rams drafted him. After getting off to a 3-0 start to the 2019 season, the Los Angeles Rams have gone 2-4 in their past six games. I’m not calling it a crisis just yet Rob Havenstein Jersey , but the performance we saw last week is far from what any of us expected this season - particularly from the offense. The clear delineation between 2018 and 2019 is the offensive line, but that’s already been covered in depth and I feel like it would be too easy to toss on this list. Instead, I’m taking a different approach this week.I’ll be watching the following players this weekend. They hold the key to leading this team back into the playoff picture.LT Andrew WhitworthExperience. Whitworth is the (aging) heart and soul of this offense. He epitomizes the work ethic and professionalism that are so underrated in today’s NFL.WR Robert WoodsGrit and mettle. Woods’ career got off to a slow start with the Buffalo Bills, but Sean McVay saw something he liked and made him an integral part of his offense. Woods sheer effort on most plays - especially run blocking - is something that the younger Rams players (specifically the OL) would be wise to pay attention to.LB Cory LittletonHumility. Littleton’s story is one of climbing the proverbial corporate ladder. He made a name for himself on John Fassel’s special teams units then took advantage of an opportunity when former Ram Mark Barron couldn’t stay health. He’s now staring at a large payday, hopefully from the Rams. Much like he has stayed true to his roots Tyler Higbee Jersey , the Rams need to do the same this weekend.S Eric WeddlePerseverance. He hasn’t experienced many losing seasons, but the seasoned veteran has been cast aside for younger and better options by both the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens. He still plays at a high level and has a huge role in the Rams defense. Combined with Littleton and DT Aaron Donald, the Rams have outstanding leadership at all three levels. If the Rams can get these players to set the tone this weekend, they might be able to stop this skid - and pull the Rams back towards the top of the standings.

It’s our Monday column Mecole Hardman Jersey Womens , The Re-Up. In this column, I’ll write about some deeper thought I had about the last game and finish with some fun stuff to ponder at the article’s end. Check out last week’s column here.Ken Blaze-USA TODAY SportsOne week ago, after the Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC West division win over the Denver Broncos, team owner Clark Hunt held a press conference for his annual midseason check-in.The tone of the press conference played out, for the most part, as expected—excitement in Kansas City hasn’t been this high in a long time due to Patrick Mahomes, Hunt is pleased with both head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach and yes, Eric Berry “literally is day to day.”But there was a moment, in particular, that jumped out to me when I listened back. And it came when Hunt was questioned about his franchise quarterback’s leadership qualities.Photo by Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images“I think watching his demeanor when he talks about the team in press conferences, that’s one example,” Hunt said of Mahomes. “He’s very quick to give credit to his teammates and he does have a tremendous group of teammates. Those offensive skill players are really special, and I think he rightly points a lot of the credit for our success to them. “Then also watching him in the locker room in postgame situations, whether it’s been one of the wins or our loss in New England, the way that he carries himself and the way that he speaks to his teammates. You can just see how they respect him. He’s very, very well spoken, and I think he hits the right message in those situations.”So I pulled up the New England post-game tape to zone in. As if you don’t remember, that’s the game in which the Chiefs offense scored 40 points and still lost.“Yeah, I missed some throws,” Mahomes, who went 22 of 36 for 352 yards Mecole Hardman Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , four touchdowns and two interceptions, said after the game.Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports“You can’t miss those throws,” he added. “We left some points out there and so when you go back and look at the tape, you have to learn from that and try to do better whenever you get the next opportunity.”Uh, what? Now living in an NFL landscape that is well aware of all that Mahomes is capable of on the field, I actually think Hunt nailed a prime of example of something that probably isn’t talked about enough when it comes to the second-year quarterback. It is a trait Mahomes shares with the likes of Tom Brady, Derek Jeter and the Manning brothers.Absolute and undeniable confidence, competitiveness and even cockiness on the field with complete humility and selflessness off.Watch this clip from the Week 2 Chiefs-Steelers game.Mahomes went 23 for 28 for 326 yards and six touchdowns, and he invites the Pittsburgh Steelers to come and stop him.Fast forward to Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and check out this clip.Mahomes went 28 for 39 for 358 yards, four touchdowns and an interception, and he waves at the Bengals as they try to rough him up after the whistle on the sideline. And how about a touchdown, a brush-off and a flex on Monday Night Football against the Denver Broncos? The Chiefs won that game, too, thanks to overcoming a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit by way of an off-hand pass to shatter those Mile High dreams. After each instance, Mahomes left the competitiveness and the fire in between the lines, reported to the podium after the game and talked about the opposition with respect while crediting his teammates.I asked Reid about Mahomes’ ability to balance that competitive fire with being the face of the franchise on Monday.“In the moment, I guess—he’s not going to come in here and bark and do all that and flex for you,” Reid said. “I think he’s into that moment. He loves playing and we all get to see that. At the same time, he is professional enough to where when he’s off the field he handles that situation—whatever that situation is—whether he’s with little kids or with y’all Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys Stitched , he handles it the right way, and he’s got a knack for that.”Mahomes had his eighth game in a row of 300-plus yards on Sunday in the Chiefs eighth win of the year. He threw for three touchdowns, but the post-game topic of discussion once again had nothing to do with him.Instead, he complimented opposing quarterback Baker Mayfield and discussed how eager Kareem Hunt and Travis Kelce were to play well in their hometown.Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY Sports“I knew they wanted to play well and win here in Cleveland,” he said. “They love it here in Cleveland so they wanted to play well in front of their families. It was cool for them to have a combined five touchdowns between both of them.”And more specifically on Hunt, who has become one of the hottest players in the National Football League of late...“When he’s running the ball like that, and catching out of the backfield, it makes it that much harder for defenses to stop us,” he said. “I feel like when you have guys like that at every position, trying to do their role and being the person that they are, is when you have those good offenses.”None of what this season has become would be possible without Mahomes, but you’ll never hear that from him.RAPID REACTIONThis week’s Rapid Reaction was taken from my opening thoughts on the Arrowhead Pride post-game show, as first heard live on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City.STAT OF THE GAMEGIF OF THE GAMEThe shade...TWEET(s) OF THE GAMEand staying on theme...FIVE QUOTES1. We believe in the guys that he has brought in here and everything they are about. It is about building culture. That is where it starts. He established a culture there. He brought in the right pieces. You have to get people to believe in that. It doesn’t matter who you have if you have that fixed, then you can go a long way. We are working on that. Like I said earlier, we have to keep getting better.”4. Running back Kareem Hunt on the feeling when Andy Reid dials up a play for him: “He believes in me. Hopefully he’s healthy.”THE BIG THOUGHTPhoto by Kirk Irwin/Getty ImagesLike we have seen in recent years when it comes to professional baseball, football is heading in a direction in which statistics and analytics are going to matter more. Head coaches and personnel men already factor them in when it comes to decision-making on the field. Former Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles made headlines when it was revealed how much of a role analytics played in their Super Bowl-winning season in 2017. But Sunday should serve as a reminder that while analytics are worthwhile, this is a sport played by human beings. This was the first opportunity Kareem Hunt and Travis Kelce had to play in front of a hometown Cleveland crowd—literally, the stuff of dreams—and it showed. They played their hearts out.“I was a kid that grew up right down the street in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, dreaming of one day being able to play in this stadium in front of these fans,” Kelce said after the game. “It’s a dream come true. It’s a cool feeling. Browns fans, I’m sorry we had to do it, but we’re about business over here in Kansas City. It’s fun playing with these guys in this locker room.”There are some moments in sports you’ll never be able to place a number on, and that’s what keeps us watching.POLL OF THE WEEK There is speculation the former Houston Texans general manager was fired partly for not extending the linebacker — and also offering him to Kansas City." CDTThe Houston Texans sent shock waves across the NFL Friday when they fired their general manager, Brian Gaine. The timing is unusual indeed — and even reminiscent of when the Chiefs opted to fire their GM back in June of 2017. Yahoo! Sports’ Charles Robinson reported that a handful of football operations staffers in the building weren’t even aware that the move was being made until mere moments before. Then Robinson mentioned the Chiefs. After the Chiefs traded Dee Ford to the San Francisco 49ers and released Justin Houston, they were suddenly in need of an edge rusher. I always felt the Texans trading Clowney to the Chiefs — one of their most significant roadblocks to winning the AFC — would be an obvious mistake. But Gaine attempted to anyway. The Chiefs wanted Frank Clark instead.“Our plan was to try to get Frank Clark,” general manager Brett Veach said during his introductory press conference. “I told the guys, ‘Look, I don’t know if we’re going to be able to get him. If Seattle doesn’t tag him he’s going to cost a lot of money. Right? If they do tag him, we’re going to have to have some equity to get him.’ This was our plan all along. This was a guy we targeted, and you guys know I’m rather persistent.”Also suddenly apparent seems the fact that Gaine lost a bidding war with the Chiefs for safety Tyrann Mathieu, who you can already tell may be the Kansas City’s most important addition heading into 2019.Texans head coach Bill O’ Brien said the Texans would “love” to retain Mathieu back in February and sounded at least somewhat woeful that they lost him to the Chiefs.Hardly anyone at the time realized that “turning the page” would mean ultimately firing their general manager.

Oddsmakers like the Patriots heading into 2019."The NFL’s 2019 regular season is still more than three months away Infant Yodny Cajuste Jersey , but the entire league is already working towards it: free agency and the draft are in the rear-view mirror, offseason workouts are underway, mandatory minicamps start in early June. For the New England Patriots, who kicked off their organized team activities on Monday, this means that the quest to defend their title kicks into a higher gear with each week. The Patriots and their 31 challengers are not the only ones already ‘on to 2019’: oddsmakers are also starting to release their first betting lines, with CG Technology the first to publish odds for all of the NFL’s regular season games... well, except week seventeen because too much can and will happen until then to make a prognosis (but apparently not until one week before that). Either way, it looks like the Patriots are a popular pick.As can be seen Yodny Cajuste Jersey Draft , New England is favored in all but one of the fifteen games:If the early betting lines are to be believed, the Patriots will be favored to start the regular season 9-0 before being an underdog against the Eagles on the road. The team is then the favorite in all of its remaining games — and it is not expected that its week 17 game at home against the Miami Dolphins will be judged any differently by the oddsmakers: they seem to like the Patriots no matter the opponent and location.Of course, it all means little at this point in time. As noted above a lot can and will happen until the first regular season game is played in early September. Because of that, the lines will probably shift quite a bit. Nevertheless, the early outlook for the 2019 Patriots is a positive one: they are trusted to once again be among the NFL’s elite, no matter the personnel turnover that happened during the offseason.Business as usual. The ones for Michigan product Chase Winovich Yodny Cajuste NFL Jersey , for example, all praised his relentless nature and the high motor with which he plays. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, for example, famously wrote that he “plays the game like he has zombie blood pumping through his veins.”Whether the contents of his veins are indeed of undead origins is a topic for another day (likely Halloween), but the point still stands: Winovich does not take plays off, something that likely led to the New England Patriots investing the 77th overall selection in this year’s draft in him. Not even four months into his tenure with the club, his high energy is already on display on a regular basis — just look at his first two preseason games.Winovich saw considerable action in both contests so far and displayed the traits that made him a highly-touted prospect entering the draft. When asked about his habits of tirelessly pursuing each play following Saturday’s meeting with the Tennessee Titans, however Yodny Cajuste NFL Draft , he struggled to explain the nature of his energetic approach to football. “It’s weird. I really don’t know why I’m built like that,” the 24-year-old told reporters.“It might be a gift and a curse sometimes,” Winovich acknowledged. “When it’s extremely hot and they’re trying to run the ball away, and I see the guy... in my head, there’s a little part of me that’s like, ‘You know what, you’re probably not going to make this play, maybe you should save it for the next one when it comes to you.’ But Yodny Cajuste Buffalo Bills Jersey , you’ll see me just sprinting and trying and trying to hit somebody or hit something.”Even though Winovich said out that he would not know the reason behind him turning into the relentless player that he is, his own history might give an explanation. Following the game against Tennessee, during which he registered a combined eight quarterback pressures, he dove into it: “Ever since high school, my grandma’s been promising me that if I played hard and didn’t get hurt she would give me five dollars and a chocolate bar.”“So, [Saturday] was just another day where I went out there and said, ‘You know what, I got to play hard. I need that five dollars and I need that candy Color Rush Yodny Cajuste Jersey ,’” continued the Patriots’ rookie defensive lineman. “I joke, but at the end of the day I know that I have a lot of support and a lot of people that believe in me, and I feel like I represent the whole Pittsburgh area in a sense, and there’s a lot of pride that comes with it.”This urge to represent his supporters well, has turned Winovich in one of the most exciting first-year players on the Patriots’ roster — an impactful defender who might see prominent snaps in the defensive edge rotation during the regular season if he can keep up his development. And as a result, it would not be a surprise to see him earn five dollar bills and chocolate bars on a weekly basis.

Finish This Sentence: The Raiders will make the playoffs because. . .Cyril: Josh Jacobs stays healthy and they catch fire against a weak schedule. Already dealing with a nagging shoulder issue Womens Antonio Brown Jersey , the Raiders can’t afford for their workhorse to miss time.Evan: They take advantage of the remaining schedule. The Raiders have many winnable games ahead in the next eight weeks, including games with the Bengals, Jets, Broncos, Chargers (twice), Jaguars, and Titans.Alex: The AFC South second-place finisher only wins eight games. The Raiders have the second easiest remaining schedule so ten wins isn’t out of question, but they need some help with the 6th seed. The Bills seem to have the 5thseed locked up because they have four winnable games left against the Dolphins, Jets, Broncos, and Browns, with other remaining games against the Patriots, Ravens, Steelers and Cowboys. BD: The rookies on this team will continue to improve and play their best football in the back half of the season. That includes rookies on defense. Will: They continue to ride a consistent running game and Derek Carr continues playing with the same efficiency. You’ve watched the Raiders play eight games. I know it’s early, but what players/positions do you think the Raiders should be thinking about drafting right now with their two first-round picks?BD: The easy draft target is LB, and the Raiders certainly shouldn’t wait too long to address that position. But in a draft with so much talent at WR Antonio Brown Jersey White , a player like CeeDee Lamb or Jerry Jeudy could take this offense over the top. Will: This year’s WR class is one of the deepest and most talented, not only in recent memory, but maybe ever. Every team in the league should consider drafting at least one WR this year. The Raiders are certainly no exception. With their other first round pick, they have to hope one of the few potential star corners in this draft falls.Cyril: With all the depth at the receiver position this year, I’d actually like to see the Raiders wait on a receiver until the second or third-round to look at the position. With two potential picks between No. 10 and No. 20, they should simply draft the best defensive players available. Whether they be edge rushers, cornerbacks or linebackers, the only defensive position the Raiders might be set at right now is at safety once Johnathan Abram returns.Evan: The position the Raiders should be looking at edge rushers and/or linebackers. It’s beginning to look like the Bears pick they acquired in the Mack trade could be in the top 10. Two players who look to be top 10 worthy and fill position of needs are Iowa’s DE A.J. Epenesa and Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons.Alex: Right now, FiveThirtyEight has the Raiders picking 12th and 16th. I doubt Isaiah Simmons makes it out of the top ten. The No. 12 pick probably nets them CeeDee Lamb and the No. 16 pick leaves them most likely choosing between A.J. Epenesa or Trevon Diggs. Another name to watch out for with that No. 16 pick is Dylan Moses. Do you think Paul Guenther is on the hot seat? Or is everyone overlooking the lack of talent he has to work with? Will: Guenther is a Gruden Grinder, as much as a cliché as that is, it seems to be true. Combined with injuries and a unit Gruden and Mike Mayock may have overrated in the offseason, Guenther has done a commendable job to get as many stops as he has. Alex: At some point in my lifetime, the Raiders need to draft a linebacker that can cover a tight end. If Guenther doesn’t change how he values linebackers in his scheme, then bring someone else in who does. Especially if he’s expecting the linebacker to drop into zone coverage and cover the opposing team’s best wide receiver. Evan: I am not ready to put Paul Guenther on the hot seat. I am a big believer that the defense lacks the personnel. The injuries/suspensions at linebacker have not helped. With the loss of starting safety Johnathan Abram and rookie Trayvon Mullen now starting at CB, there are many reasons why I think Guenther deserves another season.BD: I’ve been critical of Paul Guenther this season. He actually called a great game against the Texans, but it was poor individual efforts from a few players that was the deciding factor. I think DB coach Jim O’Neil gets the axe first Bo Jackson Jersey White , and if that doesn’t help, Guenther is next on the chopping block.Cyril: I’m a big believer that continuity breeds success in the NFL and do not think that the Raiders should be looking for a quick fix just yet. Guenther needs to get more creative with blitz packages, rather than simply rushing four on almost every play and throwing a few little DL stunts into the mix.How are you feeling about Derek Carr this season?Alex: Carr has 23 bad throws on 250 attempts, which is the best among starting quarterbacks. But he’s only averaging 5.6 yards through the air on each throw, which is tied for No. 16 among starting quarterbacks. Eli Manning has been hit more times than Carr has this season in the pocket. This offensive line, patchwork and all, has only given up nine sacks all year. I want to see Carr throw the ball some more down the field like he was doing with success on Sunday against the Lions. BD: Derek Carr is having a very good season. His command of the offense shows up nearly every week, and it seems like he is actively trying to get better at extending the play. I’m pleased with him under year two of Gruden’s offense. Will: Carr is playing more efficiently than Tom Brady. Entering Week 8 he was No. 5 in the league in QB DVOA, and No. 9 in DYAR. Then he played outstanding on Sunday against the Lions. He has the second-best completion percentage in the league. He has been outstanding, especially with a fairly nondescript group of skill players. Cyril: The man has made some costly mistakes this season, but he has kept a roster laden with youth and lacking high-end talent in the mix through the first eight weeks. That is something to be celebrated. Let’s give the man his due. He’s been a top 10 quarterback this season. Gruden shouldn’t even consider moving on from him unless the season takes a drastic turn for the worse.Evan: I think that Carr’s season has been a bit up-and-down early with the Kansas City game and Minnesota games. However, I think he is beginning to play his best football at the right time. I have been openly critical of Carr in the past, but I think he is proving with a steady run game and an offensive line that can protect he can be effective.Give me one under the radar player that’s got you excited for the future?Evan: Foster Moreau has been a pleasant surprise. I think he has been far more productive than many imagined. He is much more than a blocking TE, he is athletic and makes great catches. The future at tight end looks very bright with the combination of Darren Waller and Moreau.Cyril: I’m a big fullback guy, and I want to throw Alec Ingold’s name into the mix here. Goddamn that guy is fun to watch. Football was meant for people like Ingold, who initially committed to Northern Illinois in high school to play quarterback. At Wisconsin https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , Ingold played linebacker before becoming the starting fullback. He’s been a classic road grader and has subtly improved the running game with his hard-charing blocks and ability to seal off defenders.Alex: Daniel Carlson. Since his signing last year, he’s made 23 out of 26 field goals and is perfect on his extra points going 41 for 41. Every week you see a kicker costing his team a win. It’s nice to know that really hasn’t been an issue with Carlson so far. I hope I didn’t put the jinx on him. Will: At this point Maxx Crosby probably isn’t an under-the-radar player. But if he counts, he is definitely the guy. He was one of my favorite EDGE players in this past draft and he has shown signs through the first half of the year that he could be a real player in this league. BD: Trayvon Mullen is everything you want in an NFL corner (size-speed-competitive toughness). I love the way he has the confidence to jump routes as a rookie and looks better in coverage every week.Remember to follow the Silver and Black Pride Twitter and our talented staff. @SilverBlakPride @cyrilpenn4@Egroat5@BDWilliams18@AlextheJ9898@willosgood116 RAIDERS NEWSRyan Grigson to Raiders reportedly ‘done deal’ and Raiders fans are... not happy about it - Silver And Black PrideJust hours after reports said the Raiders were set to speak with former NFL executive Ryan Grigson, Pro Football Talk is now citing sources as saying it’s a ‘done deal’.We don’t know in what...How well has Raiders GM Mike Mayock evaluated running backs? How well has Raiders GM Mike Mayock evaluated the running back position?Oakland Raiders have money, and options in free agencyThe Oakland Raiders are coming off a rough 2018 NFL season, but have the money, and options to revamp the roster for 2019.AFC WEST NEWSAll-Pro teams: Chiefs dominate AP NFL picks with four on first teamThe Kansas City Chiefs had a league-high four players selected to the AP's 2018 NFL All-Pro first team.Broncos continue head-coaching search by talking to Mike MunchakA Hall of Famer as a player, Munchak brings prior head-coaching experience and a two-decade reputation for building outstanding offensive lines.Chargers Injury Report: LB Jatavis Brown ruled out - Bolts From The BlueA variety of ways to take the news, but none are terribly positive.AROUND THE NFLFive 2018 non-playoff teams that will make 2019 NFL postseason | NFL | Sporting NewsSteelers part ways with OLB coach Joey Porter - NFL.comPittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said changes were coming after the team missed the playoffs this season. With the most famous name on the list being none other than all-world defensive lineman J.J. Watt Lonnie Johnson Jersey Womens , tonight’s match-up between the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts will spotlight each head coach’s ability to overcome adversity. Without Watt, Houston’s front seven is going to have to work extra hard to put a dent in one of the best offensive lines in pro ball. The Colts o-line has allowed opponents to sack Jacoby Brissett a mere 15 times this season. For comparison purposes, Texans field general Deshaun Watson has gone down in enemy hands more than twice as many times, enduring 31 sacks so far.For those doing the math at home, the Colts are averaging 1.5 sacks given up per game, while Houston is letting Watson hit the dirt with the ball in his hands three times per game. Without pressure to slow down Indy’s passing attack, T.Y. “Texan Killer” Hilton will have to be contained by Houston’s secondary. Except potential Pro Bowl safety Justin Reid and rookie corner Lonnie Johnson have been ruled out of tonight’s game. Speedster Bradley Roby is on the Oprah Winfrey “You get a hamstring injury and you get a hamstring injury and you get a hamstring injury” list of the Texans walking (but not running) wounded; the odds of him playing at 100% are almost nil. Houston’s other starting safety, Tashaun Gipson, is also on the limited participation list this week with a back injury. At full health Lonnie Johnson Houston Texans Jersey , Houston’s secondary had a hard time containing the Colts’ passing attack. With four of their five key defensive backs out entirely or less than 100%, keeping Hilton in check might be impossible. However, Hilton himself is on the list with a “freak” calf injury sustained a few weeks ago in practice. If Hilton can’t play, or can’t go at 100%, the Texans’ odds of slowing down Indy’s passing attack improve dramatically.Yet if Brissett gets the ball out early, often, and plays mistake-free football, the injury bug will likely prove to bite the Texans repeatedly.Colts running back Marlon Mack was already ruled out after suffering a broken hand last Sunday, giving the Texans’ defense a chance to show the world last weekend’s utter inability to stop a running game in Baltimore was a fluke. On the other side of the ball Lonnie Johnson Jersey 2019 , Houston’s rushing attack needs to get back on track as well.Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson have proven to be possibly the best one-two backfieldpunch the Texans have ever had, depending on how highly you thought of Ben Tate during Arian Foster’s heyday.Without a way to shut down the Colts’ passing game, Houston’s best bet will be to lean heavily on their own running game, controlling the clock, and looking to Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins to bring the magic just enough to keep the Indy defense honest. Another deciding factor in Houston’s favor is the turnover margin. Houston is currently +1, while Indy is -3 on the season thus far. If that ball continues to bounce the Texans’ way, it will certainly make up for a lack of solid pass rush. One x-factor that may also work in Houston’s favor is lightning rod wideout Will Fuller V. Currently listed as a game-time decision, if Fuller can go anywhere near full speed, the Texans’ passing attack goes from solid to unstoppable. While it’s a shame a game with the implications of this one will be altered so dramatically by injuries Lonnie Johnson Jersey Mens , that’s part of life with the big dogs of the NFL.The playoff implications of tonight’s tilt can’t be overstated, but the injury impact is also huge. Which injury do you think will have the greatest impact on Houston’s fortunes tonight? HOUSTON (AP) — DeAndre Hopkins says he arrived to Houston’s game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday in a No. 7 jersey bearing the hashtag “IMWITHKAP” to support Colin Kaepernick and his protests of social and racial injustice because: “he’s standing up for what’s right.”Hopkins was photographed entering the stadium in the black jersey with white lettering and posted the photograph on social media before the game with an emoji of a hand making a peace sign and the word “love.”When asked why he wore the jersey during a news conference after the game, Hopkins would only say it was because “That’s my homie.” But the star receiver later discussed his motivation for the clothing choice to The Associated Press.Kaepernick created controversy in 2016 when he began kneeling during the national anthem as a way to protest police brutality and social and racial injustice in America. He opted out of his contract after the end of that season and hasn’t been able to get a job in the NFL since. He’s suing the league for collusion.“I support his movement and everything that he’s doing,” Hopkins told The AP. “In my eyes he’s a legend. In a lot of people’s eyes he’s a legend. He’s standing up for what’s right.”Hopkins said he knows a lot of people criticize Kaepernick, but he wouldn’t let that deter him from vocally supporting the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.“There’s going to be negative things said about him, but I just want to let him know that a lot of people support him, not just (me), but my family, other people on this team Youth Lonnie Johnson Jersey ,” Hopkins said. “Some people won’t stand up and speak out and say they support him because of what might come behind that. But I know that after this life is done I stood up for something that’s right, not just for where I’m at right now but for people after me.”Kaepernick retweeted Hopkins’ tweet of the picture and wrote: “Appreciate love from one of the best … thank you brother!!!”Hopkins believes it’s “very unfair” that Kaepernick can’t get another NFL job, and exaggerated the number of quarterbacks he played with in Houston before the Texans drafted Deshaun Watson last year to illustrate his point on the subject.“He can still play,” Hopkins said. “I know he can still play … he can win games for an NFL team. I’ve played with dozens of quarterbacks and I can honestly say that I think he belongs in this league.”Hopkins had seven receptions for 91 yards Sunday as the Texans beat the Cleveland Browns 29-13 to extend their franchise-record winning streak to nine games.

Anderson played a key role in the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl run T.J. Hockenson Jersey 2019 , can he find success in the Motor City?"The Detroit Lions strengthened their offense earlier this month when they inked running back C.J. Anderson to a one-year deal worth around $1.5 million. The running back was most recently on the NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams and played a surprisingly large role in their run to Super Bowl LIII.While his 2018 campaign did get an eventual story-book ending, it was not all smooth sailing for the six-year veteran. The running back started the season as a member of the Carolina Panthers, and saw limited use before being released in November. Anderson spent nearly a month out of work before the Oakland Raiders signed him on December 5. He only spent a week with the Raiders and didn’t even appear in a game. On December 19, he joined the Rams and began one of the NFL season’s greatest comeback stories. Now in Detroit he has a chance to stick somewhere for the first time since the Denver Broncos cut him last April. But does he have what it takes to stick in Detroit? Is he the running back Detroit needs to back up starlet Kerryon Johnson?Anderson had an impressive run in Los Angeles. In the five games he played—including both the regular season and the playoffs—he carried the ball 89 times for 488 yards and four touchdowns for an impressive 5.4 yards per carry. While he greatly benefitted from both a small sample size and arguably the best run blocking offensive line unit in the league in Los Angeles, that kind of efficiency is unheard of for a player who had been cut three times in one calendar year. The running back is most well known for his size and strength as a runner. Anderson measures in at 5-foot-8, 225 pounds. He is short but carries a lot of weight and packs a punch as he barrels through runners at the line of scrimmage. Anderson is much more than just your typical ground-and-pound heavyweight back, though. He is a smart runner that has great patience behind the line of scrimmage. Anderson is not over eager to attack the defense, and has a great understanding of when and where holes will open up. Anderson takes the hand off from Goff out of the backfield on this play, and one of the pulling blockers is a step late to seal the edge for him. The running back patiently waits to attack the hole, though, and allows the blocker to pass by him. This seals the hole and opens a lane for Anderson to find the end zone for a touchdown. While this seems like the slightest of things, this is the difference between successfully converting short-yardage situations, or ending up in the situation Detroit had for years where none of their running backs could do anything other than ram into a pile of bodies to go nowhere when tasked with picking up short yards. While his patience as a runner is usually great, sometimes Anderson can be too patient. He lacks decisiveness at times, and it can cause him to overthink his lanes and miss them before they close. Sometimes he will miss obvious holes, assuming another one will open, or he won't hit a hole while it is open and miss out on a potential gain. On this play in the Super Bowl, Anderson takes a handoff near his own goal line. The run blockers create room for him off the edge, and he clearly sees it as he initially heads in that direction. He stutters just before hitting the hole, though, and it closes a bit. Anderson eventually finds it again White T.J. Hockenson Jersey , and is gang-tackled for minimum gain.Again, this seems like a small, nitpicky thing, but these slight hesitations happen more often than one would like. Hesitation and indecisiveness can often turn a play that should go for 5 yards into a play that goes for 2 and can alter an entire drive. When Anderson does find a hole, he is great at making his body small and slipping through them. He manages to squeeze his large frame through small crevices in the opposition’s run defense and exploit any open space for decent gains. Along with making himself small, Anderson also runs with low pad level. This allows him to avoid taking big hits to his upper body and helps him to fall forward when faced with a tackler. Anderson also has surprising burst for someone of his size. He can explode through holes to create large gains out of whatever space he is given. The running back does not quite have the long speed to house runs like Johnson can, but he can pop runs for big gains when given a chance. Anderson takes the handoff deep in Rams territory on this play. Good vision and a good cutback help him find a hole that opens up in the middle of the defense. A quick jab step once he is through the hole throws off the deep safety, and the running back takes off downfield. He accelerates fast to get into top gear and streaks downfield for a 40-yard gain. While this play does a great job displaying his burst, it also shows his lack of overall speed. Johnson, Theo Riddick and many other NFL running backs probably take this run for much longer than 40 yards, and if they can keep their speed up they turn it into a 95-yard touchdown. Anderson gets chased down way too easily, though, because he does not have the burners that many other in his position do. He will be expected to do much more than just run the ball in Detroit, though. The ability to pass protect has become one of the most important attributes in the NFL for a running back, and Anderson fails in that regard. While Anderson usually does a great job finding the right man to block and gets low enough to execute in pass protection when the blitz comes right up the middle, his vision as a blocker needs work, and he rarely can spot where pressure is coming from if it is not from right in front of him. This play was a pass protection disaster for everyone involved. Anderson is lined up to Jared Goff’s right and is tasked with pass blocking on this play. He is slightly late to react to a rusher coming from his right, though, and gets beaten easily, allowing a sack. He never squares himself and never even gets a chance to engage in his block. The defender just runs by him and throws him away. The running back has way too many worrying reps like this one. He has trouble engaging properly, and even when he does Youth T.J. Hockenson Jersey , he is bad at getting his body set correctly and usually gets dispatched with ease.On this play, Anderson’s lack of blocking instincts are on full display:He is lined up behind Goff, who is under center on this play. As Goff drops back, Anderson cuts in front of him and begins to block the back of his own center. While the offensive lineman was not having the easiest of times in pass protection, helping him should not have been much of a priority. Instead, Anderson should have been watching the edges, where another rusher was coming to pressure his quarterback. Pass protection is a real issue for Anderson, but the Rams did find a few creative workarounds for him.Anderson should be a known product, and this does look like a gem of a signing for the Lions if the running back can bring the same level of play we saw in Detroit to Los Angeles. But can he?He was incredible playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the league, in one of the league's best offenses and under one of the greatest offensive minds the league has seen in recent history. But when he was not playing in arguably the easiest offensive system to play in, he could not even find his way onto the field. We will never know what truly happened in Carolina— and even Oakland—that saw his limited use and eventual departure. Whether it was a failure of coaching to maximize his potential or a failure of Anderson to produce when not in a near perfect environment, it ended prematurely and 32 teams—including Detroit—chose to leave him without work for nearly a month. Running back is the position where individual talent seems to matter the least, as the main indicator of success for a runner is the run blocking and offensive scheme. We still do not know what Darrell Bevell’s offense will look like in Detroit, and with a few question marks remaining up front, it’s hard to see how Anderson will recreate the magical run he put together in Los Angeles. The parts of the running back position that require the most individual skill are in pass protection, where he was below average, and as a receiver, where he was also below average. A one-year deal worth $1.5 million is not much of an investment for general manager Bob Quinn, meaning the organization knows not to expect too much out of their newest backup running back. Kyler Murray had already produced a few storybook moments during his first game as an NFL quarterback and seemed on the verge of another in overtime. On third down, the Arizona Cardinals rookie bounced around for a moment and then fired a pass over the middle. The ball smacked the hand of Lions linebacker Christian Jones. It fell harmlessly to the turf.To everyone's disbelief, all that drama was about to end in a 27-27 tie with the Detroit Lions on Sunday. For the Cardinals T.J. Hockenson Jersey Mens , it almost felt like a win, considering how things started."I've never tied before," Murray said. "It's better than a loss, that's all I can say."The Cardinals nearly finished an improbable comeback in the rookie's debut, rallying from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 24 in regulation. They had two chances to win in extra time and so did the Lions, but all they could do was trade field goals."It's like a participation trophy," Arizona offensive lineman Justin Pugh said. "I want to throw it out."It was a strange ending to a thrilling game.Arizona's new-look offense under first-year coach Kliff Kingsbury was a dud for most of the afternoon before inexplicably coming alive in the fourth quarter. Murray hit David Johnson for a 27-yard touchdown to pull the Cardinals within 24-16 with less than six minutes remaining. After the defense stopped the Lions, the top overall draft pick was at it again, leading a nine-play, 60-yard drive that ended with a 4-yard touchdown throw to Larry Fitzgerald. Murray found Christian Kirk for a 2-point conversion to tie it with 43 seconds remaining.Murray was 15 of 19 for 154 yards and two touchdowns during the fourth-quarter rally. Overall, he was 29 of 54 or 308 yards, two touchdowns and an interception."We just started doing what we were good at," Murray said. "I don't want to say simple, but just running our stuff and going fast. I think that opened things up."Kingsbury took the blame for the early problems."It was three quarters of the worst offense I've seen in my life and it was my fault," Kingsbury said. "Bad play calls, just trying to do too much, and we'll get that corrected."Detroit had one final chance to drive for the win with 1:10 left in overtime, but it didn't go anywhere. Stafford threw a dangerous pass that was nearly intercepted by Tramaine Brock with 10 seconds left.Brock said he made the mistake of looking toward the end zone before making the catch."We knew they were trying to get out of bounds, but when the ball did come, my eyes popped open wide," Brock said.Detroit looked totally in control until midway through the fourth period. The Lions took a 17-0 lead during the second quarter and had a 17-3 advantage at halftime. A smattering of boos was heard at State Farm Stadium.Matthew Stafford threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns for the Lions Jahlani Tavai Detroit Lions Jersey , but they couldn't put together drives in the fourth quarter to stop Arizona's momentum."For us, we got to stay focused all the way though," Detroit coach Matt Patricia said. "I have to coach it better. We can finish the game."Arizona's Fitzgerald, in his 16th NFL season, finished with eight catches for 113 yards. Zane Gonzalez was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, making them from 20, 42, 34 and 28 yards. It's the second straight year a game ended in a tie in the first week after the Browns and Steelers did the same thing last year.Stafford threw touchdown passes to Danny Amendola, Kenny Golladay and T.J. Hockenson."Tough one to swallow," Stafford said. "Obviously, was in a good spot for a little bit. We've got to do a better job of finishing the game out."NICE GAME, ROOKIEDetroit's T.J. Hockenson made an immediate impact. The 6-foot-5, 247-pound tight end, the No. 8 overall pick in April, was a problem for the Arizona secondary, creating mismatches all over the field. He finished with six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown.ANOTHER ONEChandler Jones had Arizona's biggest play of the first quarter when he sacked Stafford, stripped the ball and recovered the fumble. Jones has 42 sacks in 49 career games with the Cardinals, including at least one sack in all four season openers since joining the franchise in 2016.UP NEXTLions: Play their home opener next Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, who beat Indianapolis in overtime.Cardinals: Head east to face QB Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, who looked very good in Week 1 in a lopsided win over Miami.Follow David Brandt on Twitter: https://twitter.com/davidbrandtAP

Let’s just say the phone isn’t ringing off the hook for Big 12 players so far in the NFL draft. Only five players from the conference were selected through the third round Friday night John Ross Jersey , and it appeared the Big 12 was headed toward having the fewest picks among the power five leagues again. The Big 12 started off with Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes going 10th to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday. The next player to go was troubled Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon, 48th overall to the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday. This was the first year since 2008 that the Big 12 had only one first-round choice. The league’s two picks through two rounds were the fewest since the old Southwest Conference and Big Eight merged to form the Big 12 in 1996. In the third round, Kansas State outside linebacker Jordan Willis went to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 73 overall, Texas running back D’Onta Foreman went to the Houston Texans at No. 89 and West Virginia cornerback Rasul Douglas to the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 99. Among the top Big 12 players still on the board for the final four rounds Saturday were Oklahoma wide receiver Dede Westbrook, Oklahoma State defensive lineman Vincent Taylor and running back Samaje Perine of Oklahoma. The Southeastern Conference led the power five conferences with 30 players taken through three rounds, followed by the Big Ten (19), Pac-12 (16), Atlantic Coast Conference (11) and Big 12 (five). Last year the Big 12 had 26 players taken in the seven rounds Jordan Willis Jersey , tied with the ACC for fewest among power-five leagues and about half the 51 taken from the Southeastern Conference. The Big 12 had 25 draftees in 2015, also the fewest among the power fives. Mahomes on Thursday was the second quarterback taken , with the Chiefs trading up from No. 27 to get him at No. 10. ”It makes you feel great,” Mahomes said. ”It makes you feel like they really believe in you. They really believe in your abilities. They believe in you more as a person. They know that you’re just going to come in and work as hard as you can just to contribute to the team anyway possible.” Mahomes led the FBS with 421 passing yards per game, and he threw for 41 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. The Bengals traded down in the second round on Friday and took Mixon , putting them back in the spotlight as a place known for giving second and third chances. The 5-foot-10 running back was one of the top players available at his position, but teams were wary because of his history. Mixon was suspended for his freshman season after punching a female student and breaking bones in her face. The crowd in Philadelphia booed when Mixon’s selection was announced. Coach Marvin Lewis said the team was aware of how the public would react to the pick. Cincinnati needed a running back after Rex Burkhead left for New England. — CINCINNATI (AP) — Head coach Marvin Lewis fired the defensive coordinator and installed himself in a dual role. Bengals players talked about their trip to Baltimore as a pivotal moment in the season, almost a last-stand opportunity. They wound up getting run over. Now what?A 24-21 loss in Baltimore on Sunday dropped the Bengals (5-5) three games behind Pittsburgh in the loss column for the AFC North lead with only six weeks left in the season. Their fourth loss in five games put them in danger of missing out on the playoffs for the third straight season. A shakeup of the coaching staff didn't make enough of a difference. Cincinnati is relegated to hoping that some of its injured players return and salvage a season that's gone from promising to unsettling."Everyone is frustrated Carl Lawson Jersey ," offensive coordinator Bill Lazor said Monday. "Everyone's nerves are a little frayed right now. Everyone is searching."Lewis decided to fire defensive coordinator Teryl Austin after the Bengals gave up 500 yards for the third straight game, a first in the Super Bowl era. He took over the coordinator's duties and hired fired Browns head coach Hue Jackson to help on the sidelines during games. It didn't go well in Baltimore. The Bengals ended that streak of 500-yard games, holding the Ravens to 403, but they were on the wrong end of more defensive history.Cincinnati allowed 265 yards rushing, the most during Lewis' 16 seasons as head coach. They've given up more than 200 yards rushing in back-to-back games — the Saints ran for 244 — and three times overall this season, also the most under Lewis.Ravens rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson ran for 117 yards in his first start, and rookie Gus Edwards ran for 115 and a touchdown. They're the first set of rookie quarterback and running back teammates to run for at least 100 yards in the same game in NFL history."You give up 200 yards rushing, I'm not going to be happy with that Tyler Boyd Jersey ," Lewis said.Lewis was satisfied with how his first game on the sideline unfolded, although he felt "somewhat a little handicapped" by having so many responsibilities."Hopefully it will become more and more comfortable," Lewis said.Part of the reason for Austin's firing was the confusion on defense, which repeatedly had coverage breakdowns. The Bengals had a different type of challenge on Sunday with a rookie quarterback who ran a lot.Lewis simplified the game plan, but the defense still struggled against the run."He made us play fast," cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick said. "He put us in situations where we didn't have to do a whole lot of thinking."The Bengals were in control of the division after a 4-1 start. Now they're trying to make up a lot of ground on the Steelers, who won at Paul Brown Stadium to start Cincinnati's free fall. They're one of five teams at 5-5 in contention for the second wild card spot. The Chargers have the edge for the first wild card at 7-3. The Bengals host the Browns (3-6-1) on Sunday."It's a race now, and that's what we're here for Nick Vigil Jersey ," Lewis said after the game. "That's the thing: Now it's a race to the finish."A race they once led, but that's now getting away from them.BURFICT BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHTLinebacker Vontaze Burfict played with a sore hip that sidelined him the previous week. He was on the field for 36 of 79 plays, showing the effects of the injury — he had only four tackles. He also was involved in an altercation with guard Marshal Yanda after a play, part of a scrum on the ground involving several players. The officials didn't penalize anyone. Lewis said on Monday that the coaches' film doesn't show what happened in the altercation.

Next week, the NFL will end the period of free agency when players signed count against a team’s potential compensatory draft picks in 2020, and the Dolphins are expected to use that freedom to sign additional players. The Dolphins are projected to receive two compensatory picks next year as compensation for losing tackle Ja’Wuan James and defensive end Cameron Wake in free agency this offseason.Earlier this week, the Dolphins made a roster move, waiving three players and creating some roster space. Currently, the NFL allows 90 players on a team’s roster and Miami has 71 players on the roster (including unsigned draft picks), with another 15 projected undrafted free agents. That brings the Dolphins to an expected total of 86 players on the roster with four spots open. The Dolphins also have plenty of salary cap space. According to OverTheCap.com, Miami has the third most cap space in the league, trailing just the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans. The NFL Players Association’s daily cap report also indicates Miami has the third most cap space in the NFL.Some of that money - or a lot of that money - will likely be rolled into the 2020 cap for the Dolphins, adding to an already anticipated $120 million in space. Earlier this week, prior to Miami’s roster move William Hayes Jersey , we broke down the projected depth chart for the Dolphins. That list pulls over into today’s look at the roster, with Luke Falk, Dee Delaney, and Jeremiah Valoaga removed from the roster. Then, the top 51 salaries for the team - during the offseason and preseason, only the top 51 salaries for each team count against the salary cap - are listed next to those players. The totals are then added together after the roster to get an idea of Miami’s current cap space. There is some difference in the cap space projected by OverTheCap.com, the NFLPA, and my numbers. I have included Josh Rosen, which does not appear to have happened yet on OTC, as well as adding in the projected cap numbers for Miaim’s draft picks - with Christian Wilkins in Round 1 and Michael Deiter in Round 3 making the Top 51 cutoff. No, this is not a must win game for the Miami Dolphins and no, it is not a game where the Dolphins must beat the New York Jets to prove they have changed the culture. But, they do have to do something to show us that this isn’t the same old Dolphins. More on that in a minute. When Dan Campbell was the interim head coach of the Dolphins, he told a group of reporters that you’re not going to win every game in the NFL. While nice, it just isn’t reality. But then, he went further. He said that when his team goes on a road trip to play a good opponent, the odds are already against you. Then, he said if his team is going to lose on the road to a good opponent, he wants to see them go down kicking and screaming.I was one of those reporters in the room and when I heard this, a light bulb went on. Campbell said you need to win your games at home Josh Sitton Jersey , win the games against lesser opponents on the road, and squeak out a few on the road against good opponents. The rest? You fight until the very last second. Makes complete sense, right? Yes!And that is why when I sit down to watch this game today, this is exactly what I want to see from the Dolphins. Yes, a victory would be fantastic, and it will continue to propel the Dolphins forward. But, this game is a toss-up.It’s a toss-up for numerous reasons – one being the fact that we don’t know who the Dolphins or Jets are. We don’t know who any team in the NFL is right now, except for the New England Patriots. One week has passed, and we’ve all seen the Dolphins start fast only to wither away as the season winds down. We’ve also seen them start slow only to wake up and finish the season strong. It’s also a toss-up because it’s a rivalry game and we know that records and previous performance goes out the window when the clock starts ticking. Today’s game will show us signs of what way the team is headed, but in no way is this a defining game for either team. Now, if it is a blowout victory for either team, then the conversation will change a bit Daniel Kilgore Jersey , but I don’t think it will drastically change. This is a week to week league and you don’t get carryover points for your performance the previous week. For today, though, hope for a Dolphins victory. If they aren’t successful, hope that they go down kicking and screaming. For all of the latest news, information and rumors, be sure to follow me on Twitter: @CannataNFL

The younger Kupp also plays on the opposite side of the football making it near impossible to compare the two. Coming out of college with 267 total tackles, 3 sacks for a loss of 21 yards and 2 interceptions returning one all the way to the house. He has plenty of potential which will have to be on full display during training camp and the preseason to make it in the crowded LB depth chart.Roster BattleThe question here is whether Ketner is better suited inside or out.Last season, the Rams carried five inside linebackers on the initial 53-man roster. LB Clay Matthews and ILB Corey Littleton are locks. ILB Micah Kiser might be as well. And while the Rams re-signed ILB Bryce Hager to a one-year deal for his special teams acumen, he’ll fill a spot on the inside depth chart. That doesn’t leave much room for guys like 2018 NFL Draft seventh-round pick Travin Howard, 2019 NFL Draft seventh-round pick Dakota Allen or Kupp or fellow undrafted rookies in Troy Reeder (roster preview) and Natrez Patrick (roster preview). If the staff views him as more of an outside run-stopping linebacker Johnny Hekker Jersey , he has to compete with the edge rushers. The starting duo of Dante Fowler, Jr., and Samson Ebukam are already locked. There’s a big group of unknowns here though in Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Justin Lawler, Trevon Young, Josh Carraway and rookie UDFA Landis Durham. It’s going to be an uphill climb for Kupp.ExpectationsKetner Kupp seems to have a good eye for where the ball is going and can read QBs well. I think he’ll be solid during the preseason and in practices, but will it be enough to stand out from the crowd? I have my doubts. Not because he’s bad, but just because of the sheer number of linebackers at the position.Perhaps he could surprise and turn out to be an underestimated player like his older brother.Chances of making the final roster (3.5/10)I’m going to be honest. I want Kupp the Younger to make it, but the Rams have really given themselves some options at linebacker. Kupp could make it, but it’s going to be a rough go. And all this is assuming Ketner is as adept at making the transition from college to NFL as his brother was.

The NFLPA awards a Community MVP award to a player making a positive impact in their area during each week of the regular season as well as the week leading up to the first games of the year.Chiefs defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi has been named the first recipient of the honor for the 2019 season. After Kate Nixon was killed in a mass shooting in Nnadi’s hometown of Virginia Beach earlier this year Allen Bailey Jersey , Nnadi took her family back-to-school shopping. He also provided backpacks filled with supplies to kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Virginia and took children from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City on a back-to-school shopping spree.“As my father says, ‘As Nnadis, we don’t receive, we give,'” Nnadi said in a release from the NFLPA. “It was very fulfilling to help some special people get ready for the school year ahead.”The NFLPA will make a $10,000 contribution to Nnadi’s foundation or charity of choice in recognition of the award and a crowdfunding campaign has been established in Nnadi’s name through PledgeIt to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — LeSean McCoy is going from a rebuilding franchise in Buffalo to a Super Bowl contender in Kansas City, and he’s reuniting with his close friend and former coach Andy Reid, too.The Chiefs and the two-time All-Pro running back have agreed to a $4 million, 1-year deal Eric Fisher Jersey , a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because McCoy must still pass a physical, which could be completed as early as Sunday. That would allow him the week to prepare for the Chiefs’ opener in Jacksonville next Sunday.McCoy would become the top backup to Damien Williams, likely siphoning carries from rookie Darwin Thompson and backup Darrell Williams. The Chiefs traded the other veteran running back that was expected to earn carries, Carlos Hyde after he failed to impress during training camp and the preseason. The 31-year-old McCoy spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia, four of them under Reid, before spending the past four seasons with the Bills. The six-time Pro Bowl selection was released on Saturday, when general manager Brandon Beane cited the emergence of rookie Devin Singletary likely leading to a diminished role for a running back who for years has been a “bell-cow back.”“Difficult as it was, we always have to make what we think is the best decision for our team, and we just felt it was the right time to make this move,” Beane said. “We did this being a running back-by-committee with whatever group we kept Demetrius Harris Jersey , and that would be a different role for LeSean.”Over the course of 10 seasons, McCoy has run for more than 10,600 yards, placing him 25th on the career list and fourth among active players. Some of his best seasons came under Reid, including the 2011 season in which he ran for 1,309 yards and 17 touchdowns while earning his first All-Pro nod.McCoy had kept Father Time at bay the past few years, too. He had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in Buffalo before a drop-off last season, when he totaled just 514 yards and three touchdowns.A few weeks ago, McCoy acknowledged seeing speculation that he may be traded or released Cameron Erving Jersey , but he also expressed confidence that he would finish out his five-year contract with the Bills.“I know who I am. I know how to play. And my teammates know that,” McCoy said. “I’m the guy. I feel like that. That’s what I’ve been told. And that’s my everyday approach.”Damien Williams emerged as the Chiefs’ lead running back late last season, when Kareem Hunt was released following a series of off-the-field issues. But despite showing a dynamic ability in both the run game and the pass game, Williams has been hampered by injuries, including a hamstring issue in camp. That left the Chiefs with Thompson, an untested rookie out of Utah State, and journeyman Darrell Williams in the backfield. And when Chiefs general manager Brett Veach was asked about McCoy specifically on Saturday, he admitted that the club was likely to inquire about him.“As a step-back, broad-view type of perspective, listen Reggie Ragland Jersey , we play a lot of common opponents and got to see him on tape, and he’s still a talented player and does a lot of great things in the passing game,” Veach said. “I’m sure that he is a guy that we will take a peek at.”Veach also alluded to McCoy’s relationship with Reid, saying: “We kind of have a rapport with him.”McCoy should have some familiarity with the terminology of Reid’s offense, but it has also undergone major changes since the running back was last carrying the ball for him in Philadelphia. The Chiefs have embraced a more wide-open style under MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and that means McCoy will have a steep learning curve if he expects to be active against the Jaguars next weekend. That’s unlikely to bring him down.Despite his affinity for Buffalo, McCoy is going from a franchise that has made just one playoff appearance since 1999 and won six games a year ago to an organization that has won three consecutive AFC West titles and came within an overtime coin-flip of possibly going to the Super Bowl last season.

As Steve Burton of WBZ learned the hard way on Saturday night Yodny Cajuste NFL Jersey , Patriots coach Bill Belichick has nothing to add to the statement he issued earlier that day about the conditional reinstatement of receiver Josh Gordon. That didn’t stop reporters from trying to finagle more from Belichick during a Monday press conference.“Yeah, I released a statement on that I have nothing to add to it,” Belichick said in response to the first Josh Gordon question.Belichick then was asked to discuss whether Gordon arrived in good shape.“Yeah, I think I’ve already covered all that,” Belichick said, before flashing a rare podium smile. “Did you get a copy of the statement?”The reporter said he saw the statement on Twitter.“Sorry, I mean, I don’t do MyFace,” Belichick said, dusting off his “take my wife, please” dismissive-of-social-media catch phrase, “but I mean we’re happy to give you a copy of it, it’s really — that’s where I’m at.”Where Gordon is at is the non-football injury list. If he doesn’t pass a physical before August 31, he’ll end up on NFI for at least the first six weeks of the regular season. Related: Re-signing Jamie Collins is a gamble worth taking for the Patriots"The New England Patriots have been quite active since the NFL’s free agency compensation window was shut earlier this month: the team plugged numerous veteran players from the open market over the last three weeks, from now-retired offensive tackle Jared Veldheer to wide receiver Dontrelle Inman to tight end Benjamin Watson. The most intriguing of the men recently brought on board might be linebacker Jamie Collins, though.Collins is, of course Yodny Cajuste NFL Draft , a familiar face in New England, as he started his career as a second-round draft pick by the team in 2013 and quickly developed into one of its core defenders. His tenure, however, came to a sudden end halfway through the 2016 season when the Patriots decided to trade Collins to the Cleveland Browns for a third-round draft choice. Two and a half years after the move, the 29-year-old is now back where his NFL career began. The offseason addition is no lock to make the roster, though, and will have to carve out a role on the team. How good are his chances of doing that? Let’s take a look at the film from his tenure in Cleveland to find out what Collins still has left in the tank and could bring to the table in New England. The goodCleveland swallowed a $2.5 million dead money hit in order to get rid of Collins, so the Browns obviously felt that the investment made in the linebacker was no longer financially feasible. A reason for that was likely his performance over the past two seasons: Collins was an inconsistent player in his new team’s system and failed to live up to the four-year, $50 million deal he signed half a year after being acquired. That being said, he still showed the skills that made him one of the NFL’s most intriguing linebackers — at least in flashes. His outstanding athleticism, for example, was on display on a regular basis. Just take a look at the following play:Originally aligning on the strong side of the formation as an off-the-ball middle linebacker, Collins (#51) does an excellent job on this play of staying on top of All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill (#10) as he enters his zone — one of the toughest assignments for any defensive player, let alone a linebacker. Collins turns his hips fluidly and is able to quickly react to the in-cutting route run by the wideout. This, in turn, allows him to make the tackle and limit any potential yards after the reception.Collins might have been miscast by the Browns as an on-the-ball outside linebacker when the team went to its nickel ‘diamond’ front, considering that he lacks the a wide array of counter moves as a rusher in the both the passing and the running game. When he was left unblocked or allowed to operate in space Yodny Cajuste Buffalo Bills Jersey , however, he was still the same rangy player he was in his first tenure with the Patriots.Playing from a wide-9 alignment, Collins quickly reads his keys and identifies the hand-off based on the offensive line’s zone movements to the defensive left. In turn, the veteran locks in on ball carrier Austin Ekeler (#30) and is able to race across the formation to chase him down and tackle him. This play is therefore another good example for Collins’ still existing skills in the open field. As is the case on the play above, Collins is at his best when he is kept clean or going against tight ends. He does have a habit of dropping his head and throwing his shoulders into blockers, but the results are usually positive when he is able to use his technique properly. On this play, for example, he perfectly applies the stack-and-shed to approach and subsequently win his matchup:Collins aligns off the ball, opposite tight end Virgil Green (#88), who immediately mirrors him after the snap. However, the defender is able to push the blocker back using excellent hand technique. As a result, he is able to disengage quickly to dive for the ball carrier’s legs to make the tackle. Not only does Collins display some sound technique and strength on this play, he also shows some excellent vision to bring Melvin Gordon (#28) down after a minimal gain. One way to get Collins to operate to his strengths and in space is by scheming him open. The Patriots were excellent at doing that by using concepts like the following:After originally attacking left tackle Terron Armstead (#72) from a 7-technique spot, Collins cuts to the inside to stunt around 4i-technique down-lineman Myles Garrett (#95). Able to move freely and without a blocker engaging him, Collins quickly bursts through the offensive left-side A-gap to put pressure on New Orleans Saints passer Drew Brees (#9). Again, his quick movements and speed in the open field made the play and quarterback hit possible. The badOf course, the Browns would not have parted ways with Collins two years into his deal if his play was justifying the financial investment in their eyes. And who can blame them? Despite leading the team in tackles in 2018 Color Rush Yodny Cajuste Jersey , the veteran defender was too inconsistent a performer in numerous aspects — some of those problems were created by his usage in Cleveland’s defense, others were already on display when he was with the Patriots (who are better than any other team in the league at scheming around a player’s shortcomings).A lot of the issues simply had to do with his technique, which at times got sloppy when he tried to take on blockers or tackle ball carriers:Collins, playing as a strong-side off-the-ball linebacker, is in position to make a play here as he evades pull-blocking center Mike Pouncey (#53). In the process of doing so, however, he dips his shoulders in an attempt to duck underneath Pouncey’s blocking attempt. As a result, he allows running back Austin Ekeler (#30) to execute a cut towards the boundary and gain additional yards. Collins got himself in position to make a stop, but simply failed to execute due to a sloppy and inconsistent use of technique. The same can be seen in coverage. Collins can still get to his spots easily in zone concepts due to his range, but he at times seems too focused on the quarterback, which hurts his ability to read what is going on around him:On this play, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (#87) runs straight up the seam as Collins’ assignment. However, the middle linebacker shows some hesitation as he keeps looking into the backfield. This allows Kelce to run past him and get open in the deep portion of the field. Had the pass rush not successfully collapsed the pocket, league MVP Patrick Mahomes (#15) might have been able to hit his tight end for a score.Collins’ processing speed in general has been a problem during his stint with the Browns. The following play from the team’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers is a good example of this:Collins originally aligns over the offensive right-side B-gap in an off-the-ball position, but immediately moves towards the pocket at the snap instead of reading his keys and properly reacting to the play. As a result, he misplays the end-around and is completely out of position once he realizes and turns around. While his athleticism allows him to ultimately catch up to Keenan Allen (#13), the play itself illustrates Collins’ hit-or-miss approach when it comes to reading plays — something that has been a problem in New England as well at times. Those lapses in discipline are on display on numerous occasions when looking at his tape Youth Yodny Cajuste Jersey , especially on misdirection plays:Aligning as a 9-wide edge defender, Collins gets drawn too far inside immediately after the snap. The trickle-down effect created by this helps Mike Williams (#81) gain considerable yardage on yet another end around: with Collins out of position, Virgil Green (#88) is able to free up the edge by simply obstructing the defender’s path, which furthermore allows Williams to get to the outside and into open space. The verdictAll in all, Collins’ scouting report right now is about the same as it was when he was traded away by the Patriots in October 2016. His discipline, tackling, and ability to disengage from offensive linemen are still legitimate concerns. On the other hand, however, he still displays tremendous athleticism, speed and an ability to cover in space. If placed in the right situations and positions, Collins therefore still has the tools to be successful. What will help in this regard is New England’s overall depth at the linebacker position. With Elandon Roberts and Ja’Whaun Bentley assuming early-down duties alongside the top duo at the position — Dont’a Hightower and Kyle Van Noy — Collins should be freed up to play primarily in passing situations. This could bring out the best in the veteran. After all, he can still cover most running backs and tight ends man-to-man, has great range to play in zone schemes, and will bring the heat if the scheme allows him to.Ultimately, Collins is worth a shot. Not only is he a cheap option that knows the system, he also adds depth and upside to the linebacker group.
