He even showcased his underrated elusiveness as well, showing why he is one of the premier receivers in the National Football League. Cam Jordan and Sheldon Rankins had solid outings that didn't show up on the stat sheet, despite being often and blatantly mugged all evening by the Los Angeles offensive line. Cornerback P.J. The victory is the Saints seventh in a row, and positions them as the top seed in the powerful NFC. They still have a tough schedule down the stretch, but now have key tiebreaker wins against fellow conference contenders Los Angeles, Minnesota, Washington, and division rival Atlanta. While I personally think that may be a bit premature, I certainly understand the frustration with the under-performing offense. Something needs to change, and fast—another loss at Seattle next Monday would officially put the Vikings’ season on the brink.Before we move ahead and start looking at the Seahawks, let’s take our weekly look back at the five most important plays from Sunday’s game.Play 1: Patriots ball, 1st & 10 at the New England 45. First quarter, 11:57 remaining. T.Brady pass short left to C.Patterson pushed ob at MIN 31 for 24 yards (A.Harris).We all knew this was bound to happen.The Vikings could never really figure out how to use Cordarrelle Patterson outside of kick returns and a few gadget plays. Naturally, he’s thriving with the Patriots in a variety of ways. This easy catch and run from Flash put the Pats in Vikings territory on their first drive, and they scored four plays later. It set the tone that Belichick is still the best at coaching to his players’ strengths. It also set the precedent that Minnesota would be chasing New England both literally and figuratively throughout the afternoon.Minnesota had a chance to answer on their ensuing drive, but it was a chance they couldn’t capitalize on.Play 2: Vikings ball, 2nd & 9 at the New England 22. First quarter, 6:20 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins sacked at NE 30 for -8 yards (A.Butler).After going three-and-out on their first drive, the Vikings had already gained 53 yards on five plays, 42 of which came on three runs by Dalvin Cook http://www.authenticsminnesotavikings.com/cheap-sheldon-richardson-jersey , to get themselves just outside of the red zone. Cue the drive-killing sack!Cousins had Adam Thielen open underneath in the middle. He also had Latavius Murray open in the flat. He also had plenty of time to just throw the ball away if he didn’t like either option. Instead, he took the sack from Adam Butler, which led to a third & 17, which led to a missed 48-yard field goal by Dan Bailey. (Fun side note: Bailey has already dropped from second all-time to sixth in career field goal percentage since joining the Vikings earlier this season.) Instead of answering New England’s score with one of their own, they came away empty-handed. The Vikings didn’t score until the final minute of the half, but they still trailed by only three points heading into the locker rooms.Minnesota’s defense held firm for most of the third quarter, thanks in part to Stephen Gostowski missing a field goal of his own. It appeared that the Vikings might be able to take their first lead on a drive just before the fourth quarter.Play 3a: Vikings ball, 1st & 10 at the New England 40. Third quarter, 3:51 remaining.(Shotgun) D.Cook right guard ran ob at NE 22 for 18 yards.See, the run game really was effective on Sunday!Once again, the Vikings had 1st & 10 just outside of the red zone thanks to a Cook run. They ended up scoring on this drive, but maybe not the score they deserved.Play 3b: Vikings ball, 3rd & 9 at the New England 21. Third quarter, 2:28 remaining. Jackson prevented Thielen from getting close. Thielen complained to the referee about pass interference, but it looked like Jackson was in good position. On third down, Jackson made another play; this one was a bit more questionable.You could argue that the ball was uncatchable, but it certainly appeared as though Jackson grabbed the arm of Aldrick Robinson before the ball arrived.No penalty was called and the Vikings had to settle for tying the game on a Bailey field goal instead of possibly taking the lead.The tie didn’t last long.Play 4: Patriots ball, 1st & 10 at the Minnesota 24. Third quarter, 0:42 remaining. (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short middle to J.Gordon for 24 yards, TOUCHDOWN. NE 12-Brady 508th career TD pass, ties Favre for 3rd-most all-time. NE 12-Brady 579th career TD pass (including postseason), ties P. Manning for most all-time.You only get so many chances to take down the GOAT at home. The Vikings didn’t take theirs, and Brady made them pay posthaste.In four ruthlessly efficient plays, the Patriots sliced through the Vikings defense to reclaim the lead for good. This touchdown pass to Josh Gordon tied Brady with Peyton Manning for most touchdown passes all-time. The Vikings went backwards on their next drive, Julian Edelman returned the ensuing punt to midfield, and before we knew it the Patriots were up 24-10. I’d be more impressed if it didn’t happen against my favorite team.The Vikings tried to make it a game again on their next drive White Danielle Hunter Jersey , but one play that perfectly summarized all the offensive woes stopped any chance of a comeback.Play 5: Vikings ball, 4th & 11 at the New England 48. Fourth quarter, 6:15 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass short middle to L.Treadwell to NE 44 for 4 yards (S.Gilmore).It’s fourth down, and any inkling of a comeback is on the line. If you don’t convert this, you’re going to lose. So what do you do?Well, that isn’t exactly what we had in mind. Going to Laquon Treadwell acres short of the sticks on fourth down against Stephon Gilmore is unacceptable on just about every level. Throwing it up for grabs like a game of “500” would have been a better option here. It’s an inexcusable play call (and probably personnel decision) by the coaching staff and an inexcusable pass by Cousins. When that’s your play on a must-have down, you deserve to lose. It was a microcosm of everything that has gone wrong for the offense this season.Due to how the rest of the NFC playoff hopefuls have been performing, all is not lost after the New England loss. That story could change if the Vikings drop another game on Monday night in Seattle. Being the best bad team or the worst good team isn’t going to help meet the lofty goals this team had before the season. Tom Brady and company took their time, but eventually broke out in the fourth quarter to defeat the Green Bay Packers 31-17.Tom Brady had a fine dayBrady did enough on Sunday night for the Patriots to win. I wouldn’t say it was a great outing and I would argue that calling it “very good” might also be a stretch. Brady completed 22 of 35 passes (62.9%) for 294 yards and 1 touchdown and a 99.0 passer rating. My expectations are high and he benefit from a lot of yards after the catch.Brady continues to miss some passes and have miscommunications with his receivers. He’s reacting more to pressure and he really struggled in the red zone, completing 2 of 9 for 9 yards, adding 1 rush for 2 yards and a first down. Part of the issue was the absence of Rob Gronkowski (and Gronk’s limitations all year), but Brady’s red zone production is a major red flag that has to be fixed over the second half of the season.Cordarrelle Patterson needs to stay on the fieldPatterson finished the day with 61 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and added a 7-yard reception. When the Patriots signed Patterson, Bill Belichick told the receiver, “We’ll make you the player you should be.”I think we know what that player should be.Patterson ran hard and slashed his way down the field and his versatility is hard to defend. If you’re a defensive coordinator and Patterson’s in the backfield http://www.newenglandpatriotsteamonline.com/patrick-chung-jersey , you have to keep an extra defensive back on the field because you don’t want to have a linebacker responsible for covering Patterson in the open field. But the defensive back will likely be a weaker run defender, giving Patterson a clear advantage in the box.Even when Michel returns, Patterson should stick around on the field for New England and I would love to see some 2-running back sets with Patterson and either Michel or James White in the red zone to stress the edges of the opposing defense. The Patriots need to get Patterson 5-10 touches a game.James White is the heart of the offenseMove over Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, White is the most important non-Brady player in the Patriots offense. White had 12 carries for 31 yards and 2 touchdowns and added 6 receptions for 72 yards. This was White’s third multi-touchdown game of the season and he’s racked up 765 yards and 10 touchdowns this year, both career highs.Brady continues to look to White when all else fails in the offense and the running back’s reliability gives him the edge as the most important skill player in the Patriots offense.Josh Gordon is hereGordon finished the day with 5 catches for 130 yards and an impressive 55-yard touchdown. This was Gordon’s second 100+ yard game, both in the past three weeks, and he’s really emerged as Brady’s most productive receiver.He now has 396 yards and 2 touchdowns in 6 games with the Patriots. Gordon is here.Brian Flores coached a heckuva gameWe can talk about how the Packers gained 368 yards on the day, and that Marquez Valdes-Scantling had 3 back-breaking catches for 101 yards, and that the Packers averaged 4.7 yards per carry, but I think Brian Flores coached the Patriots defense to one of their best performances of the year.The Patriots defense reminded me of their performance against the 2013 Denver Broncos, where they allowed the opposition to gash them on the ground to take the ball away from Peyton Manning and the potent receivers.Packers running backs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams gained 110 yards on 21 carries (5.24 YPC), but outside of Scantling’s 3 incredible catches http://www.newenglandpatriotsteamonline.com/ryan-allen-jersey , Aaron Rodgers threw for just 158 yards. Rodgers completed a mere 55.8% of his passes.That means that the Patriots did a great job limiting the best player from the Packers offense and it was clear that Rodgers never felt comfortable all day.Adrian Clayborn had his best day at the officeClayborn finished the day with half a sack and a forced fumble, but he was much more active. He chipped in a pair of quarterback hits and had another forced fumble called back due to a penalty. While Clayborn’s struggled at times with gap integrity on the edge and allowing quarterbacks and running backs to turn the corner, that wasn’t an issue today and Clayborn kept Rodgers inside the pocket.Clayborn played at the level the Patriots need him to play at in order to complement Trey Flowers and force opposing teams to respect multiple players on the Patriots defensive line.Stephon Gilmore is an All Pro cornerbackGilmore had a pass defended and a fumble recovery, but more importantly he did an outstanding job of removing Packers top receiver Davante Adams from the game. Adams had 6 catches for 40 yards and a touchdown with the majority of those catches coming on crossers against zone defenses. The Packers moved Adams to the inside of formations to try and get him away from Gilmore- and Gilmore managed to get under Adams’ skin late in the game.Gilmore’s been the Patriots best defensive back all season and he’s passed this test with flying colors. He’s playing the cornerback position as well as any cornerback we’ve seen under Bill Belichick- and an All Pro caliber cornerback is an ingredient on every Patriots Super Bowl team.Patriots have one more test before their bye weekNew England is limping with so many injuries and they have one more test before they have a pretty favorable home stretch. The Patriots are on the road next week with a 1:00 PM game against the Tennessee Titans, losers of three straight and playing on Monday Night Football this week- so the Titans will face the Patriots while coming off a short week.The Titans are 3-4, but they’re a couple bounces away from being 0-7...and they’re also a couple bounces away from being 5-2. If the Patriots can get past the Titans, they’ll get the bye week and hopefully everyone will be able to rest and get healthier for the final six games. Notes From Minnesota Vikings Training Camp: 8/13 Practice Today was the first training camp day back after the first pre-season game against the Denver Broncos. While the 42-28 win was exciting Youth Harrison Smith Jersey , it was back to work as usual for the Vikings. Here are a few notes from today’s practice. Grid View Stefon Diggs and Everson Griffen did not participate in practice today. Diggs helped with the wide receiver drills but did eventually leave. Griffen was not out on the field at all today but hopefully he will be back and dressed for tomorrow. While Linval Joseph and Anthony Barr were not active for Saturday’s game, they did practice in full today. Mike Remmers did return today but was only doing individual drills. The Vikings are playing things cautious with him, as he is returning from an ankle injury. Stacy Coley was injured and did not return to practice after making an impressive jump for the ball on a catch. Unfortunately, he stayed on the ground and needed a cart to help him out. As of now Youth Anthony Barr Jersey , there is no word on his condition.But the biggest injury news, that luckily turned out to be a false alarm, was Rashod Hill. When he rolled his ankle, initially it didn’t look good. A cart was brought out and he was taken in to be looked at. He did finish the drills and told reporters after that his ankle was “feeling fine.”Kaleb Johnson took the field today wearing number 66 and took reps with the second and third teams. Jared Goff produced perhaps the most prolific passing day in the history of the Los Angeles Rams and John Franklin-Myers strip-sacked Kirk Cousins to carry the Rams to a 38-31 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night.Goff passed for 465 yards with five touchdowns on 26 of 33 passing and a perfect passer rating of 158.3 as the Rams sliced their way through the Vikings defense. Goff tossed a pair of touchdowns to Cooper Kupp, and one each to Todd Gurley, Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks to move to 4-0 for the first time since 2001.Goff is the ninth player in Rams franchise history to toss five touchdowns in a game. Only one other of those efforts – Norm Van Brocklin against Detroit in 1950 – came with zero interceptions being thrown.
