Scouts spend months upon years looking at players http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/dre_mont-jones-jersey , and seeing the way that these players will fit into a NFL system, as well as the specific team’s system. There’s a lot of work and film that get put into making these lists of players to choose from, and it all comes down to three nights. There, it’s war for the best college football players. Of course T.J. Hockenson Jersey , it’s a happy time for fans because this means new players for their favorite teams. Since these draft picks are so valuable though, if they are used in the wrong way, it could also ruin the team.Lately we have seen teams trade away valuable players to get back draft picks in return. Teams like the Raiders and Giants have done that to help rebuild their team. Using the draft to build a team is the cheapest, and sometimes smartest way. You get a group of younger players that learn together and form a team that hopefully can win for years to come. While that sounds great Justice Hill Jersey , teams will make mistakes, and pick the wrong players. Sometimes the player doesn’t fit the system or team, other times there was just a better option that more so fits the team’s needs. A lot of these mistakes really can't be determined until the young studs from college play professional talent. We will take a look at which teams made mistakes in the 2018 NFL Draft. Where could some teams have made better decisions on draft day? The Atlanta Falcons announced Monday that Greg Knapp is returning to the team as quarterback coach, working with 2016 MVP Matt Ryan.

Knapp replaces Bush Hamdan http://www.ravenscheapstores.com/ben-powers-jersey-cheap , who left to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Washington.

Knapp was the Falcons’ offensive coordinator under Jim Mora from 2004-06, when Michael Vick was the quarterback. Atlanta reached the NFC title game in 2004, but Mora and his staff were dismissed after the Falcons missed the playoffs the next two seasons.

In 2006, the Falcons rushed for a team-record 183.7 yards per game as Vick became the first quarterback in NFL history to run for 1 Iman Marshall Jersey ,000 yards in a season.

The most recent stop in Knapp’s 30-year coaching career was Denver, where he worked from 2013-16 as quarterback coach and passing game coordinator. In 2014, Peyton Manning set NFL records by throwing for 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns.

In Atlanta http://www.ravenscheapstores.com/trace-mcsorley-jersey-cheap , the 54-year-old Knapp will work with Steve Sarkisian, whose came under fire after the Falcons’ league-leading offense from 2016 struggled to put up consistent numbers in his first season as coordinator.

Former Major League Baseball all-star David Nilsson has been named manager of Team Australia as it aims to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Baseball Australia said Wednesday that the former Milwaukee Brewers catcher would lead the team in games at the 2019 Premier 12 tournament http://www.panthersfootballauthentic.com/christian-miller-jersey-authentic , which doubles as the first chance for 2020 Olympic qualification. He could also manage Australia at the 2021 World Baseball Classic.

Nilsson returned to the national team staff as an assistant coach for the 2018 Japan Series after winning three consecutive Australian Baseball League titles with the Brisbane Bandits, who went 86-48 while winning ABL titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The 48-year-old Nilsson says: ”It was really special to get back to international competition, I love the environment and I really missed it.”

Regarded as Australia’s best-ever MLB player, Nilsson finished his MLB career with a .284 batting average, 105 home runs and 470 runs batted in.

He created history in 1999 when he became the first Australian to be named an MLB All-Star after finishing with a .309 batting average in 115 games for the Brewers.

He remains the only position player ever named from Australia for an All-Star Game. Grant Balfour, while with the Oakland A’s, was named as a replacement pitcher for teammate Bartolo Colon in 2013 and is the only other player from Down Under to appear in an All-Star Game.

Nilsson also played for Australia’s Olympic team in 2000 and 2004 Jordan Scarlett Jersey , when it won silver at the Athens Games.

LOS ANGELES — The Colorado Rockies will look to close out June by heading in the opposite direction from when the month started and build off the momentum from a wild victory Thursday.

The first weekend of June was one to forget when the Rockies were swept in a three-game series by the Los Angeles Dodgers. In full revival after a slow start to the season, the Dodgers scored 33 runs in their three victories.

Now the Rockies head to L.A. with a full head of steam. They lost a heartbreaker Wednesday on a Giants game-ending home run and coughed up a late lead Thursday before DJ LeMahieu’s ninth-inning home run was the difference in a victory.

With the month set to close this weekend, the Rockies have some confidence on their side as they open a three-game series against the Dodgers. The Rockies will send left-hander Tyler Anderson (4-3, 4.62 ERA) to the mound Friday night against Dodgers lefty Rich Hill (1-2, 5.30).

Even after the Rockies were swept by the Dodgers to open the month they still sat in second place in the National League West, 31/2 games behind the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers were in third place, 4 1/2 games behind the Diamondbacks.

Heading into this weekend series, though David Montgomery Jersey , the Rockies are in fourth place eight games back, while the Dodgers are in second, 31/2 back. The Rockies have gone 9-16 in June.

The Rockies victory Thursday appears to be motivated by a talk-is-cheap statement from Nolan Arenado, who then went out and hit a first-inning home run in a win that ended a four-game losing streak.

“We can talk about it all we want; we’ve been talking about this since April,” Arenado said, according to The Athletic. “How are we going to turn it around? Blah blah. We haven’t yet.”

The Dodgers have turned around their season by going 17-7 in June. But their turnaround goes back even further. They are 27-11 since May 17 and have the long ball to thank for it.

With two home runs Thursday, the Dodgers now have 53 in the month to tie a franchise record. They will spend the next two games chasing the major league record of 58 for a single month.

But the Dodgers are coming off an 11-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday and went 3-4 against the Cubs over the past 10 days. The Dodgers have called the Cubs a measuring stick and they ended up losing the season series to the team they have faced in each of the last two National League Championship Series.

Now the Dodgers return to division play, after just six games against NL West opponents this month. The Dodgers are 5-1 against the Rockies this season.

If there is anything the Cubs might have exposed when it comes to the Dodgers it is a bullpen that appears to be in something of a lull. Dodgers’ relievers gave up eight runs in a defeat Tuesday and 10 in Thursday’s loss.

“I’m not concerned about it http://www.bearsfootballauthentics.com/riley-ridley-jersey-authentic ,” manager Dave Roberts told reporters after Thursday’s game. “We match up very well with (the Cubs) and they match up well with us. I think we are very comparable clubs. You give away outs, walks, we both can slug. You have to play good baseball. You look at a couple of games where they broke it open against our (bullpen) but by and large, our bullpen has been pretty good for some time.”

Anderson is 2-3 with a 4.85 ERA in eight starts versus the Dodgers. Hill is 0-3, 7.52 in four starts against the Rockies.

Peyton Manning takes a family to Universal Parks & Resorts. Chris Pratt works out to get in shape to tout Michelob Ultra. Bill Hader takes a break on set to snack on some Pringles.

This year’s Super Bowl advertisers are minding their manners. They’re trying hard to steer clear of everything from politics to the (hash)MeToo movement with lightly humorous ads that don’t offend.

The goal is to capture the attention of the 111 million-plus viewers expected to tune in Sunday when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the New England Patriots. Thirty-second slots are going for more than $5 million for airtime alone.

Last year Dre'Mont Jones Jersey , ads that tackled political issues fell flat, like an 84 Lumber ad about immigration. And some thought the recent Grammy Awards’ low ratings were because the show contained too many political moments, such as Hillary Clinton reading from the Trump biography ”Fire and Fury.”

People are in the mood for ”political-free entertainment,” said Kim Whitler, a marketing professor at the University of Virginia.

Several ads will be taking a light-humor approach with mostly male celebrities. PepsiCo brands Doritos Blaze and Mountain Dew Ice are showcased in two 30-second linked spots showing Morgan Freeman and Peter Dinklage in a lip-sync rap battle.

In a Pringles ad , Bill Hader has a snack on set and introduces a made-up practice dubbed ”flavor stacking,” in which he mixes and matches different Pringles varieties. M&Ms enlisted Danny DeVito to embody what happens when a red M&M becomes a person after wishing on a lucky penny.

Keanu Reeves surfs on his motorcycle through the desert in an ad for Squarespace. Chris Elliott lives in a bio dome to tout avocados from Mexico, while ”Stranger Things” star David Harbour shows up in Tide’s commercial.

”They’re light hearted and good natured,” Whitler said. ”That’s on target with the mood of the country.”

”We’re exposed to so much constant negativity,” said Andy Goeler, a marketing executive at Bud Light. ”Delivering something just light hearted and fun is the root at what beer is all about.” The brand’s two spots showcase a mythical kingdom a la ”Game of Thrones” centered on Bud Light and the catchphrase ”Dilly Dilly.”

Amazon’s 90-second fourth-quarter ad stars a bevy of celebrities who sub for the voice of Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant: singer Cardi B, actress Rebel Wilson Rashan Gary Jersey , star chef Gordon Ramsey and even actor Anthony Hopkins putting a Hannibal Lector spin on things. Leading up to the halftime show, Pepsi’s ad references past celebrities who have appeared in Pepsi Super Bowl ads: Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, Cindy Crawford and others.

Nonetheless, two Super Bowl ads are bucking the trend and sidling up to political issues, however obliquely.

Coca-Cola’s anthemic 60-second ad features varieties of Coke, from Coke Zero to the stevia-flavored Coke Life, quaffed by women, men and a person who uses the ”they” pronoun.

”There’s a Coke for he, and she and her and me and them,” a voiceover states.

Coca-Cola executives say the ad highlights the diversity the company has always used in its advertising, adding that they consulted African-American and LGBTQ groups among its own employees. A biracial couple and a person in a wheelchair also appear in the spot.

”We want to celebrate all the people that make up the world http://www.thepackersfootballauthentic.com/darnell-savage-jr.-jersey-authentic ,” Coca-Cola executive Brynn Bardacke said. ”We don’t want to exclude anyone.”

On the other hand, WeatherTech, which makes car mats and other interior car products, has a staunchly pro-American approach in its ad, which shows the construction of a factory that opened late last year.

”At WeatherTech, we built our factory right here in America,” the ad’s text reads. ”Isn’t that the way it is supposed to be?”

It’s the fifth year WeatherTech has advertised in the Super Bowl touting its all-American operations. Founder and CEO David MacNeil said his ad doesn’t have typical Super Bowl accoutrements – ”no ponies, no puppies, no pretty girls” – but said it’s straight to the point about its message.

”Isn’t it just logical to build your own factory in your own country so your own fellow citizens can have jobs?” he said. He said he doesn’t believe the ad might be divisive. ”It wouldn’t occur to me that I could offend anyone by supporting my own country,” he said.

While the majority of advertisers release their ads ahead of time to try to drum up publicity, there are some holdouts. Fiat Chrysler usually appears during the game without advance warning. Other advertisers that have remained mum about their plans so far include E-Trade and Monster Products.

”It may be that advertisers with risky ads are waiting for the game, hoping to protect the surprise and break through the clutter Elgton Jenkins Jersey ,” said Tim Calkins, a marketing professor at Northwestern University.

Here in North America, we get to enjoy a ton of different things, thanks to the fact that the continent is home to both the music industry, and Hollywood which provides all the best movies and TV shows. In addition to all that, North American citizens are also fortunate to have access to basically every sport imaginable, including football, baseball, hockey, and basketball, all of whom have major sports leagues primarily in Canada and the United States. Those sports leagues are known as the NFL, MLB http://www.thepackersfootballauthentic.com/jace-sternberger-jersey-authentic , NHL, and NBA, and in terms of their respective sports, they are the biggest and most popular leagues in the world, and although each league makes an absurd amount of money, the NFL dwarfs them all.The National Football League has been around since the 1920s, and in its present form since 1970, and since then, it has produced the best football players that the world has ever seen, and it has also given the sports world some incredible dynasties. The NFL is more than just a league, it is part of American culture, a statement that cannot be argued Dexter Williams Jersey , especially since people believe that the championship game is equivalent to a national holiday. Like every other league, the NFL has done a lot of good things, such as supporting great charities, and giving back to local communities in a variety of different ways, but like everything else in life, the league is not perfect. As much as people love NFL football, they have to understand that the league has done, or continues to do, certain things that the public does not know about, things that the league would like to keep secret, and the purpose of this list is to shine a light on 15 of those dirty little secrets.

Is Rashan Gary someone to keep an eye on in the upcoming draft? EDTShareTweetShareShareFilm room scouting report on defensive tackle Rashan GaryRick Osentoski-USA TODAY SportsFormer Michigan Wolverines defensive tackle Rashan Gary was arguably the best high school player in the country during his time at Paramus Catholic High. He was a consensus five-star recruit and he was rated as the top recruit in the country according to Rivals, Scout.com, and ESPN. Gary started 21 games in 34 appearances for the Wolverines. Gary had 9.5 sacks, 23.5 tackles-for-loss, and one forced fumble during his three years in Ann Arbor.Gary is an elite athlete. His Combine performance placed him in the 95.5th percentile according to SPARQ. Film reviewGary will be one of the most fascinating evaluations in the 2019 draft. Gary has the tools, athleticism Stitched Greg Van Roten Jersey , and the notoriety as being the top recruit in the country a few years ago. However, his production was just average and he didn’t show much consistency on film. With that said, there are still elite traits that will make any evaluator salivate. Gary does not have a diverse pass rush arsenal. His long arm or bull rush is his go to move, but when he does make contact with the offensive tackle’s chest it’s noteworthy. He is lined up in a Wide-9 position to the right. He uses a long arm, which makes the tackle lose his balance. Gary could have done better though. His footwork at the top of his rush is too choppy. He has to angle it towards the quarterback. Here is an example of Gary using his long arm to collapse the pocket. He overpowers his opponent by extending his arm into the chest. Box score scouting especially for defensive players can be fools gold, but while Gary doesn’t get the sack it’s clear he affected the play. Gary is not refined as a speed rusher yet. He takes too many steps during his path to the quarterback Youth Eric Reid Jersey , which allows the offensive tackle to drop into his set. Gary does have the quickness and the athleticism to compensate for this issue though. It’s all about the support a coaching staff will provide. Gary only makes minimal contact as he’s attempting to win on the edge. He has to convert speed to power by dipping around the arc and using a pass rush move to shed the hands of the tackle. He has upside as a pass rusher, but he clearly has to refine his pass rush moves.Gary does show promise with his counters though. His initial speed rush gets held down, but he’s able to use a swim move to force a pressure. Gary is a much better run defender at this stage of his development. He understands how to set the edge, fill on the backside, and he has a strong motor. On this play, Gary is matched up with the tight end. He locks out Stitched Eric Reid Jersey , but then shows off his play strength by redirecting and shedding the blocker. Gary has an explosive first step, which is not surprising. This enables him to make the initial contact while also keeping his head up for the run. His tackle share percentage according to Sports Info Solutions was 7.0 percent and 5.2 percent in 2017 and 2018 respectively. The pass rush production was certainly lacking, but he still produces as a run defender. Fit with CarolinaGary is not a finished prospect, but it is very rare to find an athletic freak at his size. His tape did show inconsistencies, but that was mainly with his technique. Those areas can be coached. There is a bust potential, but some recent edge rushers who didn’t have gaudy production in college include Danielle Hunter and Cameron Jordan. Gary is a similar prospect. Carolina desperately needs an edge rusher. I doubt Gary would be available past No. 16 Youth Matt Paradis Jersey , but if the Panthers pull the trigger they would be making a risk albeit one that comes with enormous upside. Running back Elijah Hood‘s 2018 season ended on the opening kickoff of the Panthers’ final preseason game, but he’ll be back in Carolina for a shot at a better outcome in 2019.Hood was set for exclusive rights free agency this offseason, which means he would remain under Panthers control as long as the team tendered him a contract. The team did tender Hood a contract and announced on Monday that he has signed it.Hood joined the Panthers off of waivers last May and tore his ACL in that preseason game last August. He was a seventh-round pick of the Raiders in 2017 and appeared in one game during his rookie season.Christian McCaffrey is set as the starting back for the Panthers. Cameron Artis-Payne, Kenjon Barner, Traveris Cadet and Fozzy Whittaker are all set to become free agents next month, so Hood could be in the mix for backup work depending on what other moves the team makes.

Sam Darnold is about to make NFL history. The New York Jets plan to have the 21-year-old rookie start Monday in Detroit Adult Lamar Jackson Jersey , making him the youngest quarterback to do so in an opener since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. And just to put Darnold in the spotlight a little more, he is set to become the first rookie quarterback to start a season opener on "Monday Night Football."Darnold acknowledged celebrating his accomplishment before shifting his focus and sounding like a veteran."I know that just because I get named the starter doesn't mean that we won the game," he said.Darnold beat out Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater to earn the job perhaps as expected after New York drafted him No. 3 overall out of USC. New York coach Todd Bowles insisted Darnold will be asked to run the team's regular offense that won't be altered to keep it simple for him.Bowles, meanwhile, hopes the Jets' can slow down Detroit when it has the ball."Defensively, you've got to keep the score down whether you got Joe Montana, Sam Darnold or Roger Staubach," Bowles said.Detroit drafted Matthew Stafford No. 1 overall in 2009 and he beat out Daunte Culpepper to start in Week 1 of his rookie year against New Orleans.Stafford said he didn't remember much about the game other than facing the Drew Brees-led Saints, who went on to win the Super Bowl after opening with a 45-27 win at home over Detroit. It is probably a day Stafford wishes to forget.Stafford was 16 of 37 passes and his 43.2 completion percentage ranks as his sixth-lowest in 125 career games. He threw for 205 yards with three interceptions and his only score was a 1-yard run against the Saints. Brees, meanwhile, threw six touchdown passes. Here are some other things know about the Jets-Lions matchup:THE OTHER DEBUT: Days away from leading an NFL team for the first time, Lions coach Matt Patricia refused to publicly relish it."My 12-year-old self is probably freaking out somewhere," he said.Patricia is very familiar with the Jets because he was the New England's defensive coordinator for the last six years and was on Bill Belichick's staff for 14 seasons."He'll have some things up his sleeve," Bowles said. "He's handled us quite a few times, so we've got our work cut out for us."CATCHING ONThe Jets have a new-look and mostly unheralded receiving corps. Quincy Enunwa is on track to play in his first regular-season game since 2016 after missing all of last year with a neck injury. Terrelle Pryor Limited Mark Andrews Jersey , signed in the offseason after one disappointing season in Washington, appears ready to play after breaking his right ankle during offseason workouts.Jermaine Kearse led New York with 65 catches last season, but is dealing with an abdomen injury. Robby Anderson is looking to build off a breakout performance in his second NFL season in which he had 63 catches.NO WORRIESThe Lions were lackluster in the preseason, struggling with starters on both sides of the ball, and are not worried about that fact."On Monday night, we don't have to be the best team in the NFL," Detroit receiver Golden Tate said. "We just need to be better than the team we're playing."TRU STORYThe Jets had a lot of salary cap space in the offseason and used a chunk of it to sign Pro Bowl cornerback Trumaine Johnson to a five-year, $72.5 million deal after he had 18 interceptions over six years with the Rams."He's kind of a game-changer," Tate said. "He takes the right chances at the right moment. We're going to have to be real crisp in our routes and find a way to get open."It's going to be a great challenge and I'm not just speaking for him, but for the rest of the guys out there."New York is hoping Johnson can combine with Morris Claiborne to form one of the better cornerback tandems in the league. The Jets also have promising second-year safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye in the secondary, although Maye might not be 100 percent while still recovering from offseason ankle surgery. The confident group has matching T-shirts that read: "New Jack City."SAFETY NETDetroit safety Glover Quin has started 132 straight games, a streak that trails just San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers (192) and Baltimore cornerback Brandon Carr (160) among active players.Follow Larry Lage on Twitter at s://larrylage OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Baltimore Ravens rookie general manager Eric DeCosta waited his entire life to make a selection in the NFL draft, so delaying the moment for a few extra minutes wasn’t much of a hardship. When the wait was over, DeCosta selected wide receiver Marquise Brown of Oklahoma. And by trading the 22nd overall pick to the Eagles on Thursday night Mark Andrews Ravens Jersey , DeCosta netted a couple of extra draft choices before selecting Brown at No. 25 overall. After waiting 2½ hours to get on the clock, DeCosta swapped first-rounders with Philadelphia and received the Eagles’ fourth- and sixth-round picks. Then DeCosta took the cousin of NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown. A standout in his own right, Marquise Brown scored 17 touchdowns in two years with the Sooners and had a pair of 1,000-yard seasons.“What are the chances a guy who had to walk to work and fight his way just to get to junior college ends up being the first receiver taken?” Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley said. “I’m thrilled for him and his opportunity. He’s going to bring a lot to the Baltimore Ravens. Their fans will love his explosiveness, which we really came to appreciate the last couple of years at Oklahoma.”Brown fills a need for Baltimore after the offseason departure of wideouts John Brown and Michael Crabtree. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder — nicknamed “Hollywood” in part because he grew up in Hollywood, Florida — Brown made a strong impression on DeCosta during a visit to the team complex last week. The relationship gets a bit more serious now.“Him being my first pick was emotional for both of us, the stress that he and I will be forever linked,” DeCosta said.DeCosta replaced Ozzie Newsome, who had the final say in every Ravens draft since the team moved from Cleveland in 1996. After working closely with Newsome for more than two decades, DeCosta took over in January. He had Newsome as an adviser over the past few weeks and Newsome was in the draft room when it came time for Baltimore to make its pick.Stealing a page from his predecessor, DeCosta chose to stockpile picks for the later rounds. As it stands now, the Ravens have two selections in the third round, three in the fourth, one fifth-rounder and a trio of sixth-round choices.“I was a little bit nervous that Philly would take him Elite Mark Andrews Jersey ,” DeCosta said of the first-round swap. “It’s a calculated risk. You know we like to make trades. It made sense to roll the dice a little bit, so we did.”Brown waited anxiously between the 22nd and 25th picks.“When they traded back I got a little nervous, but everything worked out,” he said.DeCosta has been busy since making the jump from assistant GM. To counter for the loss of linebackers Terrell Suggs, C.J. Mosley and Za’Darius Smith through free agency, DeCosta signed running back Mark Ingram and safety Earl Thomas, negotiated contract extensions to cornerback Tavon Young, tight end Nick Boyle, kicker Justin Turner and guard Marshal Yanda. He also signed quarterback Robert Griffin III to a two-year deal that keeps him as a backup to Lamar Jackson.Drafted with the 32nd overall pick last year, Jackson stepped in for an injured Joe Flacco in mid-November and led the Ravens to the AFC North title. Newsome gave up a 2019 second-round pick to Philadelphia to get Jackson, so Baltimore’s next selection isn’t slated to come until the third round at 85th overall.DeCosta came into the draft looking to find a wide receiver, a pass rusher and an inside offensive lineman. He checked one off that list by taking Brown, who averaged 18.3 yards per catch at Oklahoma.“He’s got a certain toughness about him and he’s a playmaker,” coach John Harbaugh said. “He’s a perfect fit for what we’re trying to do offensively.”

Ask any NFL expert what the cornerstone positions in the league are and you’ll find a pretty consistent list. Quarterback Black Grady Jarrett Jersey , pass rusher, cornerback and left tackle are always in the conversation. When the Falcons drafted Jake Matthews in 2014, the hope was that they had found a player that would be with the team for at least 10 years, if not more. So far, that looks like it will be the case. Jake hasn’t necessarily been a top-3 tackle in his first few years, but it’s hard to deny that he’s improved with every season he’s been in the league. He’s now a high quality starter that the team hopes to keep around for a long time to come. His big and reasonable contractAfter 4 good years of play and a trajectory that showed he was only getting better, Jake was given a five year extension in July of 2018 worth a total of 75 million. The deal has a little over 41 million in guarantees and actually came in slightly under the deal that Taylor Lewan got from Tennessee (80 million with 50 million guaranteed). Lewan has been considered a slightly better player overall since entering the league, but Matthews has not been far behind. Both players have fared better than Greg Robinson, who was drafted before either of them. Given his production and continued improvement since entering the league, there’s little doubt that the Falcons signed him to a very reasonable contract. He’s productive and only getting betterAs for 2018, Jake rewarded the Falcons with one of his best seasons yet. He was ranked by PFF as one of the 7 best left tackles in the league, proving that his contract was well worth it. In fact, a quick glance at PFF shows that Jake has improved almost every year he’s been in the league - a trend that shows no signs of slowing down, as he is set to turn 27 in the 2019 season. Looking aheadThe new contract has Jake signed through the 2023 season, when he’ll be just 31 years old. While he won’t be a spring chicken at that point, there’s still a pretty good chance Matthews will want to play for a few more years. Perennial All-Pro Joe Thomas retired at age 34 and Andrew Whitworth is still playing at a high level at age 37. Nate Solder was awarded a large contract at age 30, and he’s a lesser player than Matthews. So long as his high quality play continues, the Falcons will likely get Jake signed up for one more extension before looking for his long-term replacement. There’s no reason to think he can’t play into his early or even mid-30s, which means he should be in Atlanta for at least 7 or 8 more years at this point. At minimum, he should be here for the duration of Matt Ryan’s time in Atlanta, making sure we have a franchise pass protector for our future Hall of Fame quarterback. He has the chance to retire as a franchise great, but we’ll leave that discussion for the future. What if I told you that there was a game that consisted of a single play, lasting all of 10 seconds? In summer 2018, I took it upon myself to speak to a bunch of people involved in this silly game — that day, they were Idaho athletic director Rob Spear, Florida associate AD Chip Howard, Florida special teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler, and Idaho special teams coach Jason Shumaker. I know, I know — just give me my Pulitzer now.It was Aug. 30, 2014, and in Gainesville — known as “Rainesville” to Alachua residents in the spring and summer months — the weather can be quite unpredictable. Both teams warmed up on the field as scheduled. The game was slated to kickoff 7 p.m. ET, but lightning in the area forced both sides off.“It was a sunny day. You know, like some light clouds around, and they’re like Grady Jarrett Jersey 2019 , ‘You have to get off the field ‘cause there’s lightning,’” said Shumaker. “It didn’t feel like lightning at all, [or] that there was any danger of any storm. And then we went into the locker room, and shortly thereafter — 30, 45 minutes later — it started pouring.”“It was kind of one those Florida days,” Hutzler said. “Afternoon, evening deals, where in the daytime it’s a beautiful day and then, you know, the thunderstorm, lightning-type deal rolls in kind of out of nowhere.”What was thought to be a 45-minute delay turned into three hours. Per NCAA rules, play can’t resume until 30 minutes after the last lightning strike, and SEC rules call for a suspension if lightning is within six miles of the stadium. A lot that goes into coordinating during a delay. “We have pretty precise protocols that we institute as soon as that happens,” Howard said. “So, all that stuff just kind of happens by plan. What doesn’t happen is, ‘OK, how long is it going to be?’ So while we’re watching the clock, I’m also getting texts that we got another lightning strike. Alright, so now it’s another 30 minutes, so couldn’t get out of the first delay for the longest time because we kept getting lightning strikes, and it’s automatically another 30.”“Our players hadn’t eaten for a long period of time, so we had to get ahold of Jimmy John’s,” Spear said. “And they were true to their advertising — they showed up on bikes and got us those sandwiches.”Florida benefitted from being able to use its own facilities. “Our strength staff, kind of putting guys through active warm-up,” Hutzler said. “Which, everything to old-school jumping jacks to getting in the locker room and getting them a stretch and those kind of things. That was the hard part of just, ‘OK, we’re getting ready to go,’ so you get them warmed up, you get them sweating again, and then boom, you’re back down to, ‘OK relax guys, we got another 30.”Florida players go through stretches in the locker room.Fans were asked to clear the stadium Black Brian Poole Jersey , but they could gain re-entry with their ticket stubs. Some students chose to ride out the storm:Photo by Rob Foldy/Getty Images“There were times when I went in to talk to Coach [Will] Muschamp, and said, ‘Coach, I think we’re going to be good. There’s cells around us, there’s lightning moving away, and I think we’re going to be able to go out and start warmups,” Howard said. “And then boom, those guys are getting fired up and they’re getting revved up. And then boom, another lightning strike, and you gotta walk in the room. “It got to the point where neither one of those coaches wanted to see me or [Florida home game manager] Bryan Flood. I mean, they would see us coming, and literally, physically, they would slump.”But finally, at 10 p.m., we had kickoff!“We were obviously all excited to go play in The Swamp,” Shumaker said. “It’s always a great environment, and it was the first game of the season, so guys are excited, and you know, we traveled a long way to get down there. So we kind of just thought, ‘Well, we had a long fall camp, and now we just have to wait a couple hours to play.’”That kickoff resulted in a 64-yard return from Florida’s Valdez Showers. As far as I can tell, that SEC Network camera angle is literally the only broadcast evidence of this entire game’s on-field action.“Our whole plan had been to make sure No. 10 didn’t get the ball,” Shumaker said. “And so instead, we kicked it low, line drive kick — it was supposed to be a sky pooch kick — and I think [Idaho kicker Austin] Rehkow might’ve had his only [bad] kick as a Vandal, kind of came off it was more of a line drive. So we got the worst of both worlds, we got No. 10 catching it on a sprinting start, and so then, they made a couple good blocks, and we really over-pursued. “When he turned the corner on Rehkow — he was a really good athlete and just couldn’t make the tackle — I thought the worst was about to happen. But then we somehow got the angle to him.”Photo by Rob Foldy/Getty Images“You anticipate that they’re going to kick opposite and try to keep [return man Andre Debose] Bo away, execute what we call a sky kick Brian Poole Jersey 2019 ,” Hutzler said. “And so we needed to have our answer to that, and it was actually supposed to hit up the left side where they kick it up the left side numbers. And Valdez made a great cut, and cut back across. “You know still, to this day, I give Valdez crap for not scoring on it, getting caught from behind! We could’ve won that one-play game, 6-0.”Another lightning strike cleared the field again, and the game was suspended indefinitely around midnight. “The biggest factor after all that rain was our field was not good,” Howard said. “I’m walking the field with the referee, and the referee’s saying, ‘You know, this is not safe.’ You know our field drains great, but there’s only so much water you can put on the field. So at that point, that’s really when we started to talk about, you know, hey, we’re just going to need to pull the plug.”Photo by Rob Foldy/Getty Images“The last time, after that play, the fans kind of knew who we were,” Howard said. “And when the lightning strike hit after that play when we walked onto the field, the fans started booing. And I’m like, ‘That’s like a first, no one knows who we are.’ We’re discreet. No one knows the game management people! They literally started booing. “And then I remember Coach Muschamp, he’s just kind of like almost slumped down, I’m like, ‘I’m sorry man, I wanna play too.’”Photo by Rob Foldy/Getty ImagesAfter I’d sat in the press box all night, my job had been substantially less involved than I was expecting. On my way back to my apartment, I highly considered joining my friends who’d spent hours at the bars across the street from the stadium. The only thing that swayed me: the long lines weren’t budging whatsoever.Gators receiver Demarcus Robinson, who was suspended, got to come back the following week. Guess a one-play game counts for a one-game suspension! The Idaho game ended up being Florida’s most encouraging game in a long time.Rescheduling the game ended up impacting Florida’s 2018 schedule in a strange way.“We both had a bye week at the same time, but it just didn’t seem to work with everybody’s schedule, and given what Florida had going on within their conference season [for years, Florida’s taken off the week before playing Georgia] Black De’Vondre Campbell Jersey ,” Spear said. “So there was talk about postponing it, playing it again, playing it the next day, playing it at another venue, and then just canceling the game.”During Florida’s other bye week, Idaho had a game, and vice versa. “The Sunday scenario, we’ve kind of went around that block a couple times since then, as it relates to hurricanes,” Howard said, referring in part to 2016’s Florida-LSU game. “That’s really hard to do. It seems simple, but it’s very, very difficult to pull off. And so, getting everybody back up, getting that back together again, that was really not even an option. It was asked by Coach [Paul] Petrino, but not really Coach Muschamp, from what I remember.”Florida paid Idaho its guaranteed $975,000. “I will say that Florida, [AD] Jeremey [Foley], and Will, they were great,” Spear said. “They treated Idaho awesome, and how we ended up navigating through this unique circumstance, they were so above board in how they treated us.”Florida agreed to bring Idaho back to Gainesville in 2018, but the Vandals moving down to FCS made it a little tricky to make the game happen. “Here’s the kicker, though. We worked really hard for them to get back out here,” Howard said. “All of the sudden in 2017, Idaho decides to go down to the FCS. So now this game that we worked our butt off to get back here, we have to petition the NCAA [to let the game count toward bowl eligibility], because we have two FCS games on our schedule.”The Gators didn’t end up needing that petition, and the Vandals and Gators will kick off at noon on Saturday, Nov. 17. Hopefully they’ll run a second play after that.

GLENDALE Custom Haason Reddick Jersey , Ariz. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks got a victory but lost an embittered Earl Thomas with a fractured leg.The Arizona Cardinals remained winless but had to be encouraged with the performance of rookie quarterback Josh Rosen in his first start. It was a mixed bag for both teams but the Seahawks came away with the victory Sunday when Sebastian Janikowski, after two earlier misses, kicked a 52-yard field goal as time expired for a 20-17 victory over the Cardinals, who fell to 0-4 for the first time since 1986, two years before the franchise moved from St. Louis.“We ran the ball for over 170 yards, which is fantastic,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “Mike Davis ran like crazy. He gave us a great effort on a day when Chris (Carson) couldn’t go.”Thomas sustained a lower left leg fracture while defending what turned out to be the game-tying touchdown pass from Rosen to Chad Williams in the fourth quarter.Obviously frustrated, Thomas made an obscene gesture toward the Seattle side of the field as he was carted off.Thomas had been embroiled in a contract squabble with the Seahawks, skipping some practices to show his ire. His teammates understood his frustration.“It’s an unfortunate part of the business,” Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner said. “If he doesn’t come back Haason Reddick Jersey Discount , he’s not a team guy. If he does come back, he gets hurt and they say he shouldn’t have come back. It’s a crazy business that we’re in.”Rosen, meanwhile, was impressive in his starting debut, completing 15 of 27 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown with no interception. He had several passes dropped.“I thought he played fantastic,” said teammate Larry Fitzgerald, who uncharacteristically dropped a couple. “I didn’t do him any justice by making plays for him, but I think he stuck in there and made some wonderful plays, some great throws.”Here are some things to consider from Seattle’s victory over Arizona.ROSEN’S DAYRosen said he had a couple of scrambles out of the backfield “that kind of got me in the flow of the game a little bit in the sense of like, ‘I belong here.”He said he felt more comfortable as the game went on and was at his most effective completing three big passes leading to his 22-yard TD toss to Chad Williams to tie the game at 17-17.“Again Haason Reddick Jersey Super Bowl , his poise showed up,” coach Steve Wilks said. “… Total control over that whole drive.”INJURED SEAHAWKSThomas wasn’t the only Seattle player to be injured.Rookie tight end Will Dissly was carted off in the first quarter with a patellar tendon injury.“There’s nothing we can do but send love to them and build them up and all that,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “The bittersweet is so obvious. That’s how we’re feeling about it.”DAVIS RUNS WILDThrough the first three games this season, Davis had three carries for three yards. With Collins unable to play on Sunday, Davis ran wild, gaining 101 yards in 21 attempts, including TD runs of 20 and one yards.“Mike Davis stepped up in a huge, huge way,” Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson said. “He was the star of the game, I think Haason Reddick Jersey For Sale , just making so many plays. He’s an explosive player. He works the right way. He’s a professional. He comes in ready.”After his TDs, Davis did a celebration that included him waking from a slumber.“I just feel like I have been slept on ever since I came into the NFL,” he said. “It is just a reminder that I will wake them up one day.”JOHNSON’S PROGRESSFinally, David Johnson began to look like David Johnson. The Arizona running back topped 100 yards from scrimmage. He rushed for 71 yards in 22 attempts, including a 21-yard run, and caught three for 41 yards, including a 30-yard screen pass on Arizona’s game-tying TD drive. But Johnson gave himself poor grades.“I don’t know about the other guys, but I’m very disappointed in myself,” he said. “I had a lot of mental errors, man Haason Reddick Jersey On Sale , and I didn’t do enough to help out the team.”KICKING WOESJankowski and Dawson are two of the most experienced kickers in the business, but they each missed twice.“No excuses,” Dawson said. “I go out there whenever I’m told to go out there, and it’s my job to put the ball through the posts. And twice today, I didn’t do that.”Dawson missed a 45-yarder that would have given Arizona the lead with 1:50 to play. Seattle drove downfield, with no timeouts, to set up Janikowski’s winning kick. His selection for the Titans was first round pick Jeffery Simmons. It was probably a pretty easy pick for McShay with Simmons having top 5 talent and falling all the way to #19.Of course it isn’t THAT easy. There are a lot of other factors in play with Simmons including the assault while in high school and the torn ACL this winter. On the assault, I thought the introductory press conference the Titans did with Simmons that also included Amy Adams Strunk, Jon Robinson and Mike Vrabel gave pretty good insight into Simmons the person. You can listen to some of my thoughts on that on the latest Locked on Titans here. Here were McShay’s thoughts on the Simmons pick: NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have lost their three-time Pro Bowl tight end at least for a big chunk of the season.Quarterback Marcus Mariota is being evaluated after hurting his throwing arm, and two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan is in the concussion protocol. And that’s just the latest injuries for the Titans. Now Tennessee has to see who’s healthy enough for the home opener Sunday against AFC South rival Houston (0-1) and adapt accordingly.“What we’re going to do every week is try to figure out what gives us the best chance to win, personnel wise, who we have available, maybe who we’re playing obviously,” rookie coach Mike Vrabel said Monday.“We’ll be flexible enough to use any personnel that we think will help us win. I don’t think we can commit to anything right now.”The Titans already are down starting right tackle Jack Conklin, who was inactive against Miami as he recovers from a torn left ACL repaired in January. On defense, starting linebacker Derrick Morgan played only 14 snaps in the Titans’ 27-20 loss in Miami as the Titans work the veteran back in after a preseason injury.Tennessee’s top two draft picks also are linebackers, and Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry both missed the opener with injuries.Add to that the Titans are recovering from the league’s longest game since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970 because of two lightning delays that made the matchup in Miami last 7 hours, 8 minutes from the opening kickoff to the final second ticked off.Morgan said it wasn’t easy warming up, cooling down again and again Delanie Walker Jersey , but thinks the Titans learned some mental toughness from the day that wouldn’t end.“Hopefully it never happens again and we never have to play football for eight hours straight,” Morgan said.Mariota is being evaluated after he lost sensation in his right hand after the game from his injured right elbow. He was intercepted twice — both after taking a hit from Dolphins defensive lineman William Hayes following a handoff. Vrabel said they’re hopeful of getting a good report back on Mariota’s arm needing everybody that’s healthy and available.Blaine Gabbert, signed this offseason, replaced Mariota and threw for 117 yards with an interception. The Titans do have rookie Logan Woodside on the practice squad, but will wait for a report on Mariota before deciding whether to add another quarterback.Vrabel did say he told defensive coordinator Dean Pees to take note of how officials are handling quarterbacks carrying out a fake on a run-pass option.“If that’s legal, then we have to do it the same exact way,” Vrabel said.Lewan was resting Monday. Asked about Dolphins lineman Andre Branch’s hit, Vrabel said it probably wasn’t dirty even if the coach thinks his left tackle “absolutely” was targeted. The Titans put tight end Delanie Walker on injured reserve Monday and the tight end will have surgery on his right ankle in the next few days. Walker came into the season with the most catches in the NFL by a tight end between 2013 and 2017. He also has been Mariota’s favorite target, leading the team in receptions in two of the past three years.Vrabel said the Titans will evaluate Walker’s potential to return this season after surgery. Jonnu Smith, a third-round pick out of Florida International in 2017, has 19 receptions and will be the first expected to fill in for Walker. Smith had talked to Walker and said the veteran was in good spirits.“It is some big shoes to fill,” Smith said.

With the Texans’ 2018 season now in the rear-view mirror Martinas Rankin Jersey , it’s time to reflect (see what I did there?) and offer up some constructive criticism of the team.Let’s start with a guy who probably receives more criticism than anyone associated with the Texans—head coach Bill O’Brien.I’ve asked the BRB staff to offer up well thought-out, reasoned, and realistic constructive criticism of O’Brien, and I received a variety of answers.Of course, I had to shoot BFD with multiple horse tranquilizers, hog-tie him, and nearly drown him in a puddle of his own kale puree in order to force “constructive” thoughts from his face on O’Brien Jordan Akins Jersey , because that is just not what he does.Let’s see what the staff came up with:Chris:Brett Kollmann:Matt Burnham:Capt. Ron:Rivers McCown:Matt Weston:BFmf’ndD:Mike Bullock:So there you have it - I... think... maybe some of that was constructive?Possibly? Lil’ bit? This was fun.We will do this again for another coach, or player... What are your constructive criticisms of Bill O’Brien? Use the comments section below to let us know! Oh, no."I could groan on and on and on about the Matt Kalil signing. The Panthers paid an enormous sum of $55 million (over five years) to carry him from Minnesota to Carolina. They signed him because they were tired of having to chip and manipulate their tackles. After Cam Newton was punctured and popped in Super Bowl 50, David Gettelman vowed it couldn’t happen again. And guess what? It happened again. The Panthers still had to chip and slide.Newton was still a submarine captain, constantly playing under pressure. Kalil offered nothing at all as a vertical run blocker. He struggled making blocks in space. He couldn’t hold his own against pass rushers. He could get beat by speed rushes. He never had the punch to control blocks or suffocate power moves. The Panthers shed Kalil’s skin this offseason. The Texans chose to put the remnants back on. When the signing was announced, I, like everyone else Keke Coutee Jersey , assumed this move was just for tackle depth and competition. A whatever signing. I, like everyone, else, am probably wrong. In free agency, you have to pay what it takes to bring a player to your town, not what the player is actually worth. Yet there’s a subtext to contract terms. If a team is willing to pay X amount, they’ll only be willing to if it fills a specific need. Kalil was given a one year Deshaun Watson Jersey , $7.5 million by your Houston Texans. From Spotrac:This contract includes a $2.25 million signing bonus, $2.25 million guaranteed, and an annual salary of $7.5 million that is a combination of a base salary of $3.25 million, the signing bonus, and a roster bonus of $2 million. It’s a contract the Texans can get out of as soon as training camp if Kalil is injured or if he’s truly atrocious. However, with their current tackle situation, and the Texans calling and asking if Jordan Mills is still awak Zach Cunningham Jersey , only injury should keep Kalil off the roster for in 2019. Even more troubling is that a team doesn’t give a player a $7.5 million salary for him to back up and compete for a roster spot. Backups don’t earn that much in this wild and crazy market. Houston offered Matt Kalil the salary of a starting offensive tackle. It’s only April 1st. But as of right now, based on this contract, I’m afraid.I’m very afraid the Houston Texans are expecting Matt Kalil to be their starting left tackle in 2019.

This year’s crop of free agents will be joined by veterans deemed too costly by their current teams in the coming days and weeks. Which pass rushers expected to be released could Seattle target?"With free agency opening on March 14 Cheap Ugochukwu Amadi Jersey , the group of pending free agents will begin to inflate in the coming days and weeks. A wave of players will soon flood the market, deemed too expensive by their current teams to stick around. At some positions, it will be a welcome influx of talent. Count EDGE among those positions which will need a boost, with the majority of the top end talent certain to be retained by their current clubs. Luckily for pass rush needy teams such as the Seattle Seahawks, more talent should soon be made available. Here are the EDGEs at risk of getting cut (or already have been) who could be a fit in Seattle. Olivier VernonAmong all players listed here, Vernon is the most talented and would be the most impactful addition; not a coincidence, he’s also the most likely to remain with his current team. The Giants signed Vernon to a massive, five year, $85M deal with $40M fully guaranteed in 2016. Since then, Vernon’s been a solid, if not great player in New York, with 22 sacks and 28 tackles for loss in three seasons. The Giants can save $11.5M towards the cap if they release Vernon, though they would incur a dead money charge of $8M. With approximately $28M in cap space currently available, and just Landon Collins needing to be re-signed among their premier talent, New York could wait until next offseason when the dead money is much more palatable ($4M). However, Vernon’s been floated by Over The Cap’s Jason Fitzgerald and NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal as a potential cut. If Vernon were to hit the open market, the Seahawks would surely be interested. He’s a true three down lineman capable of playing the run and pass, and would make a terrific partner for Frank Clark. Though Vernon had just seven sacks in 2018, his pressure rate of 11.1 reflects the type of disruptive presence he is, and the type of rusher Pete Carroll desires—someone who affects the quarterback. Robert QuinnA footnote in the Rams’ busy 2018 offseason was a trade that sent Quinn to the Dolphins, ridding themselves of the $22M remaining on his contract at the time. Now, Miami themselves are likely to get rid of Quinn Ugochukwu Amadi Seattle Seahawks Jersey , saving just under $13M in the process. The Dolphins pending release of Quinn is a reflection of the realities of the NFL rather than Quinn’s play last season. In just his second season as a stand up rusher, Quinn registered 6.5 sacks, 35 pressures and nine tackles for loss. More impressive was his NFL-leading pass rush win rate of 40 percent, a staggering number and five percent higher than the next closest rusher (Jadeveon Clowney). Quinn will be in his age-29 season in 2019 and can certainly still help a team. Landing in Seattle would allow Quinn to avoid double teams, like he enjoyed when playing with Aaron Donald, as well as giving him a chance to play his former team in L.A. twice a season. Vinny CurryThe Eagles’ depth inevitably had to take a hit following their Super Bowl victory in 2018, and their inability to retain Curry was a part of that. As a free agent, Curry signed a three year, $23M deal with the Buccaneers, only to be cut after one season. On an entirely terrible defense last season, Curry was a disappointment for Tampa Bay: 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss and a pressure rate of 9.4. Similar to his former teammate Brandon Graham, a deal between the Seahawks and Curry would likely be one of two EDGE additions this spring, as Curry is much more of a depth addition than difference maker like a Vernon or Ezekiel Ansah. Curry has been a starter in just one season of his career (2017); the most productive season of his career came in a year in which he played 32 percent of the defense’s snaps. Depth in a pass rushing group is a must in the modern NFL, and it’s something Seattle currently lacks. The signing of Curry would be unlikely to inject double-digit sacks into the group, but it would absolutely provide depth. Adrian ClaybornIn writing about free agent pass rushers the Seahawks could target, I likened Graham’s production and situation to Clayborn, who signed a two year, $10M deal with the Patriots last spring. Clayborn plummeted back to Earth after a 9.5-sack 2017, producing just 2.5 sacks and three tackles for loss in 2018. Now, New England can release Clayborn and save $3.9M, while incurring a cap hit of $2M. The Patriots have $15.7M in cap space currently Shaquem Griffin Jersey , and need to sign Trey Flowers, their best defensive player, to a new deal. Clayborn is a reliable edge defender who can play against the run and pass, but could be released to make the room needed to round out a roster expected to make another Super Bowl charge.Clayborn isn’t a flashy player by any stretch, nor would he particularly move the needle. However, in the name of restoring the depth that left Seattle, he would be a solid addition to the Seahawks rotation. Vic BeasleyThrough four seasons in the NFL, Beasley has remained an entirely puzzling player. Though he wasn’t aided by Dan Quinn and the Falcons repeatedly switching his position, from defensive end to linebacker and back again, Beasley has thoroughly disappointed in three of his four seasons. The one season he didn’t disappoint, however, Beasley led the league in sacks with 15.5 and was named a first-team All-Pro.Now set to play 2019 under his fifth-year option worth $12.8M, it’s expected Atlanta will cut ties with the former first round selection. If Beasley does indeed hit the open market, he could be a highly intriguing option for Seattle. He has familiarity with Carroll’s defense, having played his entire career in Quinn’s system. Additionally, he clears all of the Seahawks’ athletic thresholds at the position—with the lone exception being arm length, where he falls 1/2” short—and is a 99th percentile athlete. Above all else, Seattle prioritizes the three cone drill with their EDGEs. Three times in the Carroll era, the Seahawks have taken the pass rusher who posted the best three cone in their class. Frank Clark was one of those three, but only because Beasley and his three cone of 6.91 seconds was grouped in with the linebackers, as opposed to defensive linemen. The fit is obvious, as is the need for Seattle. Beasley has an element of risk to him Tre Flowers Jersey , but the upside is extremely high. It’s worth noting another big name pass rusher likely to be cut, Justin Houston, would be extremely unlikely to land with the Seahawks. The reason for Houston’s expected release—besides his $21.1M cap hit—is his fit in new Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s 4-3 defense. If Seattle’s going to give a free agent pass rusher a sizable deal, regardless of length, it isn’t going to be for one who’s a questionable fit within the scheme. Despite the likelihood of the top pass rushers being re-signed by their current teams, the Seahawks and their $51.9M in cap space should have an impressive group of EDGEs to target next month. Retaining Clark is the top priority, and once that’s accomplished, Seattle can begin to bring in some help for him.Amara Darboh will get second chance with Seahawks in 2019 As a rookie, Amara Darboh couldn’t win a significant role on the offense for the Seattle Seahawks. Going into year two, Darboh wasn’t healthy enough to compete in a group that is currently six-deep after promoting Keenany Reynolds, so he barely even had his chance at redemption. By next year, he could get a second opportunity to make a difference on the Seahawks. On Friday, Darboh failed a physical with the New England Patriots and reverted back to Seattle’s injured reserve. He is not eligible to play this season. That should give the Seahawks to keep Darboh in the fold for the next offseason. He’ll cost $400,000 against the cap this season, per a tweet I read by our own John Gilbert.Darboh was a third round pick in 2017 out of Michigan. He played sparingly last year and failed to catch up this offseason as the team became more and more aware of the talent of David Moore, also a member of the 2017 draft class. The Seahawks currently have Tyler Lockett, Doug Baldwin, and Moore all under contract for the next few seasons, with Jaron Brown signed through 2019 and Brandon Marshall potentially retiring next year, as he’s mentioned as a possibility.

Aaron Rodgers weighs in on national anthem Davante Adams Jersey White , NFL rules changes, & more One thing that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has made perfectly clear over the past several years is that he is much more than just a football player. Rodgers is an excellent golfer and has joined the ownership group of the Milwaukee Bucks, cementing his commitment to sports in the state of Wisconsin. He is also a dedicated member of the community in the area, becoming the most prominent public face of the MACC Fund and recently discussing his ongoing support of the Wounded Warrior Project. With these factors in mind, then, it should come as no surprise that Rodgers has strong opinions about the NFL’s treatment of players both on and off the field, the league’s handling of players’ social justice-related demonstrations, and general current events around the United States. Rodgers shared those opinions in interviews with NFL Network’s Michael Silver and The Ringer’s Kevin Clark, which were both published this week, and his comments are worth examination. In Clark’s piece, Rodgers dives more significantly into the NFL and its own specific issues. Clark’s premise revolves around what Rodgers would try to do if he were in Roger Goodell’s shoes as league commissioner, and he had plenty to say. However, one of the most profound statements he made involves the inconsistencies with the league’s owners’ reaction to players who protest about social issues during the national anthem: “If you’re going to take the focus off of what the protest was really about—it was never about the anthem, it was never about the troops, it was about social equality and racial injustice—then make it all about the anthem.” Rodgers points out that other activities continue on in NFL stadiums while the anthem is played, and he also looked back on the period early in his career: “We never came out for the anthem back in the day ... the messaging has been changed. If the owners see it as all about the flag and the anthem, everybody should be held to the same standard.”Rodgers appears to be in favor of everyone in the stadium being treated the same, rather than just the players on the field. He likes the idea of stopping food and merchandise sales during the performance, for example. But in talking to Silver Clay Matthews Jersey White , Rodgers explored the protests themselves in more detail, emphasizing that he and his fellow players “love and support and appreciate the troops” in the US military. Rodgers’ actions with the Wounded Warrior Project in particular illustrate that, even though it is the type of proactive work that often goes unseen or ignored; as he says, “the good stuff doesn’t get the headlines.” Rodgers also says that he refuses to engage with fans — or the current president — when they criticize him or other players for their actions or statements; in his words, doing so would be “giving credence to an opinion and value to an opinion that’s way off base — because they’ve missed the point of what this was all about.”Of course, as a football player, Rodgers has plenty of thoughts on how the league he plays in runs things as well. Furthermore, going through a contract negotiation, as he is now, is giving him a particularly informed opinion on the league’s financial setup under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Some of the ideas he suggested are borrowed from the NBA, which is hardly a coincidence. He mentioned things like a soft salary cap, eliminating the franchise tag, implementing veteran-friendly contract options, and others. He also would like to see more communication between the league and players on all rules changes — another area where the NBA has taken the lead under current commissioner Adam Silver.Interestingly, though Rodgers is all for improving player safety in football, there are limits to how far he would be willing to go. The college football targeting rule, for one thing, is something he dislikes (saying “the enforcement lacks a little bit of oversight”), and he’s not a fan of the new kickoff rules. He’s also pleased with the progress on head injuries Aaron Ripkowski Jersey , saing “I don’t know much more you can do on that except fining teams who don’t adhere to the protocol.”Oh, and of course the guy with the iconic championship belt celebration is fully supportive of players being able to express themselves after touchdowns. “You’ve got to respect celebrations. You love them, look forward to them,” he said. “Let guys be guys.”Let them, indeed.Check out the articles below for much more of Rodgers’ comments on these issues:We Made Aaron Rodgers NFL Commissioner for a Day | The RingerRodgers supports LeBron, implores players to ignore Trump jabs | NFL.comPackers’ defense dominates Josh Allen, Bills in 22-0 shutout win After a disastrous stretch of defense, blowing a huge lead to the Vikings and allowing Washington to build one in the first half, Josh Allen was exactly who Mike Pettine and Co. needed to see. While Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense couldn’t quite get rolling, a dominating defense shutout the Bills, forcing three turnovers, and notching seven sacksto give Green Bay a much needed 22-0 win in Week 4. The rookie Bills quarterback finished the first half 5/19 for 58 yards en route to a Bills record for incompletions in a first half, to go with a heinous arm punt picked off by Jaire Alexander to wipe points off the board. In six possessions, the Packers forced four three-and-outs and the Alexander pick to shut out a Buffalo team that had jumped all over the Vikings in Week 3. Green Bay jumped out to a 16-0 first-half lead a week after the Bills took a 27-0 margin into halftime in Minnesota. The Packers’ defense had only forced three turnovers in the first three weeks, one of the worst figures in the league. Allen was generous in changing that, throwing two picksand sailing passes over the heads or at the feet of his receivers. Rodgers, looking much healthier but not significantly sharper than a week ago, bought time and made plays in ways we are used to seeing. He also missed some easy throws, threw his first interception of the season and nearly threw a pick-six on fourth down in the second half. Not having Randall Cobb clearly changed the gameplan for the Packers as they rotated running backs Mike Daniels Jersey White , tried to feed Jimmy Graham, and couldn’t quite generate the spark they were looking for. An opening-drive touchdown ended in a doinked extra point by Mason Crosby, a harbinger of things to come for the offense. They were consistently able to move the ball and get in position, only to come up just a little short. Costly drops and some bad throws stymied the Green Bay passing attack, with Rodgers making a number of key plays with his legs and just enough big-time throws to put points on the board. It was enough Sunday against a young Bills squad, but will have to be better for the Packers to achieve their goal of contending for a Super Bowl. Missing a hurt Cobb, the Packers lost Geronimo Allison to a concussion in the second half, forcing a pair of rookies into key roles for Green Bay’s offense. A lack continuity, experience, and rhythm held Rodgers and his group back. So did not playing Aaron Jones more often. He finished with 65 yards on 11 carries, a 5.9 average, and at this point the only person who doesn’t see he’s the best running back in town is McCarthy. Playing Lance Kendricks for any reason remains a head-scratching decision. For all the scheme improvements, some befuddling personnel decisions linger. Two promising third-quarter drives stalled out, resulting in a field goal and a turnover on downs thanks to the same problems that plagued the Packers in Week 3: drops, off-target throws, and some blown protections. In a game that should have been something like 30-0, the Packers held just a 19-0 advantage through three quarters. But the defense came through over and over. Once the lead was double-digits, Mike Pettine began to dial up pressure to confuse and befuddle Allen, ending in seven sacks and 11 quarterback hits for this Packers defense in its first game with Muhammad Wilkerson. Even Kyler Fackrell got into the act with a trio of sacks J'Mon Moore Jersey White , disrupting in the Buffalo backfield and flummoxing Allen into missed throws and turnovers. Relying on the defense to pick up a streaky offense wasn’t a luxury the Packers have recently been afforded. Buffalo hardly represents a telling test, but Week 4’s performance serves as a step in the right direction for this young group. Blasting Josh Allen doesn’t prove their worth, but not doing so would have been solid evidence of their failures. And speaking of Super Bowl quality, the last shutout for the Packers was 2010, the year they last hoisted the Lombardi trophy. Rookies Josh Jackson and Jaire Alexander shined in coverage against a pedestrian group of receivers. In fact, a receiver didn’t post a reception until late in the first half for the Bills. The much-maligned Ha Ha Clinton-Dix snagged a pick early in the second half, his third straight game with an interception. Even without Kevin King, this Green Bay secondary proved it has some playmakers, a welcome change from recent vintages of this defense. Through four weeks, the Packers offense has faced four potential top-10 defenses, but the offense simply isn’t where we expect it to be a month from now. This isn’t a Super Bowl offense right now. But if the defense can build on this performance against a quarterback like Matthew Stafford — not just Josh Allen — those offense struggles are not only mitigated, but provide a boost for when Rodgers and his band of merry men finally emerge from Sherwood Forest to once again pillage and plunder. This defense, for its part, isn’t out of the woods itself, but showed the potential to dominate a matchup, even against a rookie. They needed a get-right game and they got one. Whether or not they can get right on their own could very well decide the fate of the Packers this season.

Rishard Matthews might be done with the Titans [UPDATE]- Matthews confirmed to A to Z Sports that he quit on the team. You can see the text he sent them here.Rishard Matthews was absent from practice today. The reason given was personal. That’s weird Tajae Sharpe Jersey , but it happens from time to time with a guy or two duringa season. Things took a weird turn tonight when Matthews posted this on his Instagram:The caption, in case it doesn’t show up for you, is “When Daddy’s home for good. That is unless someone Calls him to get off the couch.”Now we don’t know anything more than this at this point. Paul Kuharsky says this post is an accurate indicator that his time in Tennessee is over. My guess here is that Rishard hasn’t been happy with his usage through the first 3 weeks of the season and things came to a head in some fashion today. The wording of his Instagram post sounds like he will be released by the Titans because that is the only way a team could call him and get him off the couch. There is little doubt in my mind that teams will call because he has been productive the last couple of years. That was a polarizing pick, not necessarily because Barkley can’t play Kamalei Correa Jersey , but rather many people feel running backs should not be drafted in the first round, let alone the top five, due to how replaceable the position has been in recent seasons. With that said, Barkley is a lot of fun to watch. Through 13 games of his career Barkley has put up 1,124 rushing yards and 629 receiving yards for a combined 1,753 yards from scrimmage (second most behind Ezekiel Elliot who has 1,764) and 13 total touchdowns. I’d say Barkley is a lock for Offensive Rookie of the Year, though some might say Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield wins it due to the increase in value he provides to his team.Nevertheless, it’s obvious that Barkley will be heavily featured in Sunday’s game, and while the Titans have the 13th highest DVOA in rush defense according to Football Outsiders Jayon Brown Jersey White , shutting down Barkley will be easier said than done.gamepass.nfl.comAnyway you shake it, Barkley is one of the most complete backs in football, and he’s garnered a high level of production behind a shoddy offensive line. As you can see on the play above, Barkley often runs in Zen-like state of mind where his vision is as near flawless as you can find from a back. He shifts gears a couple of times in the blink of an eye, and his ability between the tackles in tiny gaps is sublime.gamepass.nfl.comOutside the tackles is no different. His Le’Veon Bell-esque patience, as shown here, allows him to evade the high defensive back, and then he adds a stiff arm for good measure. It’s pretty easy for a lot of backs to look really good in their rookie season these days, yet Barkley runs like he’s been in the league for five years. His footwork, burst http://www.thetitanslockerroom.com/authentic-daquan-jones-jersey , and technique are versatile and he never gets boring.gamepass.nfl.comThen there’s the wheels, which are just unfair. On this run, Barkley uses a phenomenal display of patience to open up a gap in the middle, then he quickly changes gears and teleports through the gap. That’s when he turns on the jets and out runs everyone like Bo Jackson. And yes, comparing Barkley’s speed to Bo should be some kind of sin, but man I can’t get enough of this run.Other players on the Giants matter more than Saquon Barkley, but in terms of pure fun, nothing can compare. The Giants’ reliance on their superstar rookie could go against the Titans, as he’s an excellent running and receiving back with the ability to change gears at the drop of a dime and display the footwork and patience to carry his offensive line.

The Buccaneers’ 2018 rookie class certainly hasn’t burst onto the scene as quickly as everyone hoped back in April. By the end of draft weekend Sean Bunting Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jersey , Tampa Bay appeared to have a pretty solid class, one that would get an immediate chance to shine by the time the season came around. With year one nearing its end, it’s obvious that the good feelings have worn off. 2018 as a whole has been frustrating for the Bucs. The fact that the rookies have struggled to flash consistent potential hasn’t helped.Of course, all hope isn’t lost. It’s only the first NFL season for these guys. Plus, some of them look to be improving each and every week. With that, let’s take a look at how the rookies performed in Sunday’s 20-12 loss to the Ravens.DT Vita VeaAt one point this year, first-round pick Vita Vea was one of the most frustrating rookies of Tampa Bay’s 2018 class. These days, he is one guy that is showing consistent improvement that makes the future of the class feel just a little bit brighter. The big defensive tackle out of Washington continued to make his presence felt up the middle on Sunday, which was definitely needed due to Baltimore’s focus on running the ball. While the defense as a whole may not have been too impressive against the run, Vea certainly was. He finished the day with a career-high nine tackles (six solo), with many of them coming after minimal gains by the Ravens’ running backs. From The Athletic’s Greg Auman: There’s obviously a significant difference between 2.4 and 4.9 yards per carry. Vea did what he could to slow down the run game, which has always been a strength of his. Earlier this season, it felt like he was easing into the league after missing so much time with an injury. Nowadays, he is making a difference for the Tampa Bay defense, even if there aren’t too many other guys that are. He is getting more snaps at this point in the season, as he was up to 60 on Sunday (79 percent of the defense’s total). That was the same number that veteran Gerald McCoy played. The big thing is, Vea is playing his best football of the season right now and that should be something he can build on heading into the offseason. The 23-year-old is turning into a solid player, regardless of the continued complaints about who else could have been selected at the No. 12 spot. The best of the restVea was the headliner of the rookie class in this week’s game, and there wasn’t really a close second... Second-rounder Ronald Jones II played just four snaps on offense (eight percent) and 12 on special teams (52 percent). He was targeted twice in the passing game, catching one of them for a loss of one. He had zero carries on the day... Second-round corner M.J. Stewart didn’t get any defensive snaps, but had 12 (52 percent) on special teams. He registered one tackle... Fellow second-round corner Carlton Davis played 52 snaps (68 percent) on defense and one (four percent) on special teams, racking up two tackles (both solo)... Third-rounder Alex Cappa got eight snaps (16 percent) on the offensive line and three (13 percent) on special teams... Fourth-round safety Jordan Whitehead played 47 snaps (62 percent) on defense, picking up three tackles (one solo)... Fifth-round wide receiver Justin Watson got two snaps (four percent) on offense and 16 (70 percent) on special teams. He was credited with one tackle. BOOM! Fire the cannons! The Bucs beat their arch rival in the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday and man, was it sweet. Not only did they win, but they led for the entire game after building a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Tampa Bay made enough plays for the remainder of the game to finish with a 24-17 victory. Not only did it snap a three-game losing streak, but it was one of Jameis Winston’s best performances against a team that usually gets the best of him. That will surely help in this week’s grades, won’t it?OffenseLet’s go ahead and talk about Winston. Coming into this last week, Winston was 2-4 against Carolina. His stats during those six games reflect the poor record. He completed an average of 62% of his passes for 268 yards, but held a TD:INT mark of 5/9. The Bucs gave up an average of three sacks per game and were outscored by an average of 24-17. How ironic is that they won 24-17?But anyway, Winston had another turnover-free game and made great decisions with the ball for the second week in a row. He was great from the pocket once again, taking sacks when needed and running any chance he had. It’s evident that he is using his legs more this year and it’s been more than effective. To put it into full context, he only carried the ball 33 times last season. This year, he already has 36 carries through just five and a half games. This does nothing but help as the season goes on. It will force defenses to hesitate on sending extra blitzers and it will keep Winston from making those deadly mistakes he has been known for over his career. Outside of the offensive line Cheap Sean Bunting Jersey , who gave up four sacks on the day, the rest of the offense played pretty well. Adam Humphries recorded his fifth touchdown in as many games and the team finished just five yards shy of another 100-yard performance. They went 6/13 on third down and were 66% in goal-to-go situations. There were still issues with penalties (9/69) and the Bucs finished with only 18 first downs. After scoring on four of their first seven possessions, they punted the ball away four times in the fourth quarter. And there was also the Peyton Barber “fumble”, but everyone with a set of eyes knows that was a BS call. Overall Grade: 2.75 (C+)DefenseHot damn. Now that was Tampa Bay football. Four turnovers. Four sacks. A huge fourth down stop in the fourth quarter. Is this 2002?In all seriousness, while the defense did give up a ton of yards (444), they also made a ton of impact plays that changed the outcome of this game. Christian McCaffrey ran wild, but that was to be expected. That’s not an excuse, that’s just reality. But considering how many players this team had out due to injury, it’s quite remarkable how effective the unit was against Cam Newton and co. The Bucs were down Vernon Hargreaves, Brent Grimes, Carlton Davis, M.J. Stewart, and Chris Conte in the secondary coming into the game before Justin Evans reaggravated his toe injury and had to leave the game. Andrew Adams and Javien Elliott - a free agent and a practice squad player earlier in the season - picked Newton off a combined four times between the two. Mike Minter came in with a big sack on the first drive of the game. He was signed just three weeks ago. Tampa Bay held Carolina to just 3/8 on third down and as aforementioned, stopped them on a crucial 4th-and-9 late in the fourth quarter. The team still had trouble with big plays, allowing five plays of 20+ yards. They also disappeared in the third quarter, giving up 10 points and 148 yards on 19 plays. Considering what they were up against, it was a remarkable effort and one that should be treated as such. Final Grade: 3.5 (B+)Special TeamsI used to dread giving out this grade. Now, it’s one of my favorite topics to write about. It only took the latter part of the decade, but Tampa Bay has finally found a kicker. Cairo Santos was perfect again, knocking down all of his extra points and the lone field goal attempt. He still had some trouble getting the ball into the end zone on kickoffs (3/5), but the Bucs’ unit covered the two returns well, allowing an average of 17.5 yards per return. Anger finished with a net of 40 yards on six punts. In all, it was another good day for the unit. Final Grade: 4.0 (A) CoachingThis was easily defensive coordinator Mark Duffner’s best game of the season. The fact that the Bucs were able to come up with so many plays using so few players was remarkable and he deserves every bit of credit he can get. The offense, while it could’ve done more, did enough. A lot of what they were or weren’t able to do had to with injuries as well. But overall, Todd Monken and Dirk Koetter had a very effective game plan, taking advantage of the Panthers in the short-to-intermediate game. It’s also encouraging to see the players still playing despite what this season has been so far. The staff deserves some praise for that. Final Grade: 3.5 (B+) Overall Grade: 3.43 (B+)Considering the circumstances, it would be very fair to call this the biggest win of the season. A bad record, a plethora of injuries, turmoil, and a quarterback carousel is a deadly combination in the NFL. Teams can - and usually - mail it in after going through all of that for this long in a season. But that wasn’t the case Sunday and now the Bucs still have life in the playoff race. Overall Grade For The Season: 2.15 (C)

Then, once that deadline has passed, everyone will either be talking about the ramifications of the fact that the team missed the deadline, or discussing the contract the two sides agreed to and its ramifications across the roster and the league. As such, without getting too deep into specifics, since the numbers are anybody’s guess at this point, I’m simply going to cover some basic concepts I would use in structuring Wilson’s contract if I were in the front office of the Seattle Seahawks. Second Year FlexibilityI’ve yammered on and on about the fact that the salary cap situation for the league could see a shift in dynamics depending on how negotiations come out regarding the next CBA, so I’m not going to rehash the specifics of that here. However, what I will go over is the fact that if there are significant changes in the CBA that result in material impacts on the salary cap in 2021, then the team should work to minimize any negative effects of these impacts. Specifically, with Wilson already under contract for the 2019 season, the 2020 season would be covered by the first year of any extension. Thus, what the Hawks front office needs going forward is the flexibility to remain competitive in 2021 and beyond regardless of structural changes to the cap and its size. There are several different roads through which the Hawks can obtain this second year flexibility, however, the biggest is through properly structuring the contract during the 2019 and 2020 league years. Wilson being under contract for the 2019 season makes accomplishing this flexibility somewhat easier because it effectively becomes the third year of the contract. That means there are two seasons prior to the end of the current CBA in which the team can use guaranteed money to provide more flexibility once the next CBA is finalized. Length of ContractOne little thing which the Hawks can use in structuring the deal is to lengthen the contract relative to the deals the team has signed over the past few years. Specifically, when handing out second contracts in recent seasons the front office has largely stuck to three and four year contracts, but that was not always the case. When Percy Harvin was added from the Minnesota Vikings he signed a six year contract, while Zach Miller and Sidney Rice each signed five year contracts when they relocated to Seattle as free agents. Thus, when looking at extending Wilson, the team can use a longer contract that gives it multiple favorable advantages. The first of these is that using a longer contract gives the team more flexibility in later years with dead money being at the front of the contract. As I covered back in February, signing bonuses are only amortized over the first five years of a contract. Thus, if the Seahawks and Wilson agree to an extension that is five years or longer, any signing bonus would have been completely amortized prior to the start of the fifth year of the extension (sixth year of the contract since 2019 would see the first one fifth, and the remaining signing bonus would come over the first four years of the extension). Thus, for example, if the two sides reached a seven year extension, the result would effectively be an eight year contract with no signing bonus proration over the final three seasons of the contract. Those three seasons would be Wilson’s age 36, 37 and 38 seasons, and would give the team greater flexibility to move on without large dead money cap hits if his arm suddenly falls off in one of those seasons. Alternatively, if he continues to perform at a high level, the team can renegotiate the contract in his mid-30s in order to put his contract on a pay-as-you-go structure as he enters the quarterback danger zone of the late 30s and early 40s. In addition, using a longer contract term would allow the team to rock the news cycle with absolutely blockbuster numbers. Assume for a moment Wilson were to agree to a five year contract with a $34M average annual cap hit. Such an extension would have a total value of $170M, and while that would be the highest APY in the NFL, it’s not a number of material significance. Last offseason Matt Ryan became the first NFL player to sign a contract worth $150M, and $170M is not one of those game-changing, round numbers that is absolutely mind blowing. Tacking a couple of dummy years on the back of the contract could truly give it the wow factor to make it a headline contract. Thus, adding a sixth year on the contract with a $30M base salary would push the deal past the $200M marker, and that would be a headline grabber. However, if there’s going to be headlines to be grabbed, then I’m all about going all in. Why add a sixth year that is likely to be negotiated early on an extension that reaches the $200M plateau, when adding a sixth and seventh year at $40M apiece would push the deal into the stratosphere. Doing that would hit the $250M mark, and that give Wilson not just the ability to claim the title of the first quarter billion dollar quarterback in league history, and that’s a claim to fame that he would carry for some time. Brett Favre is still known as the first quarterback to sign a nine-figure contract, and Wilson agreeing to a quarter billion dollar deal would put him into company with another former Seattle sports figure Alex Rodriguez. Thus, while there are lots of specifics and details to hammer out over the next ten days, the Seahawks have the ability to not just retain Wilson for the rest of his prime, but to make a statement that grabs the type of headlines Wilson seems to love while cementing his legacy in the NFL. Wilson’s performance on the field has shown no sign of slowing down http://www.seahawkslockerroom.com/authentic-jason-myers-jersey , and it’s just a matter of time before he becomes the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. That likely won’t be a title he holds for long, but the Seahawks have the opportunity to cement his legacy with the type of titles that can never be taken. The question isn’t whether the headlines will be big. The question is how big the headlines will be. If the Minnesota Vikings make the playoffs this weekend, it will mean that the Seattle Seahawks have played every NFC postseason team this year save for themselves and the New Orleans Saints. In those games, they beat the Dallas Cowboys and Vikings, while losing twice to the LA Rams and once to the Chicago Bears. In my opinion there’s only one team in the NFC — in reality, the whole NFL — that I don’t think you want to face if you don’t have to and that’s the Saints.New Orleans is one home game against the Carolina Panthers away from finishing 14-2 and that alone puts them a step ahead of every team. Records can be deceiving but the Saints’ isn’t. It’s surprising to me that they’re only third in DVOA, but they’re second in weighted DVOA and only .2% behind the Kansas City Chiefs for first. Yes, Drew Brees is the face of the city and having another season appropriate for potentially the best quarterback of all-time but what sets this Saints team apart from the many that have let Brees down over the years is a defense that ranks 10th by DVOA.Consider that New Orleans has twice looked this good: in 2009 and in 2011. They went 13-3 in both of those season with a point differential of +169 in the former and +208 in the latter. This season, they are +170 and actually if they lost 21-20 to the Panthers this Sunday, they’d have the exact same record, point differential, points scored, and points allowed as they did in ‘09.And they won the Super Bowl that year. The issue in 2011 was that there were too many good teams and beyond all reasonable expectations, the Saints won their last eight games, finished 13-3, and still had to play a wild card game. They hosted the Detroit Lions and won 42-28 but then had to go on the road to face the 13-3 San Francisco 49ers. The 15-1 Green Bay Packers took the one-seed (and had an even more disappointing postseason) while San Francisco got the two-seed by way of conference record. The Niners scored 380 points that year, compared to 547 for Brees and co.The Saints went 9-0 at home that season, including the wild card game, but were just 5-4 on the road following a divisional round loss to the Niners. As you probably recall in that classic game, the lead changed four times in the final four minutes, with Alex Smith giving San Francisco the 36-32 win by way of a touchdown throw to Vernon Davis with :09 seconds left.If that game is played in New Orleans, I could see a different result. This year, the road to the Super Bowl does go through New Orleans. At least, unless you get super lucky and avoid it, which is what the Seahawks should be hoping to do.If Seattle beats the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday, they’ll guarantee themselves the five-seed. If they lose, they open the door for the Minnesota Vikings to take the five and push the Seahawks down to the six. There is only one opponent they could possibly face in that scenario, which would be the Chicago Bears. No, they cannot face the LA Rams in the first round because in order for the Rams to fall to the three seed, it will mean that the Bears beat the Vikings and therefore, Seattle would be the five seed.Say whatever you want about the matchup vs the Cowboys compared to the matchup vs the Bears, here’s what I can guarantee: If the Seahawks are the six seed, and they win, they have no choice but to go to New Orleans. That’s not a scenario I’d be looking forward to and it’s one you want to put on hold while also crossing fingers that somebody can upset the Saints in the same way that the New York Giants shocked everyone and upset the Packers in 2011.But if they’re the five seed, there’s still a chance that the Seahawks will play the two seed if they happen to advance past the wild card round. If that team happens to be the Rams, you, me, and everyone we know is aware of how close Seattle was to beating LA in both matchups this season. If it’s the Bears, I’d still say that they present a much more favorable matchup than New Orleans does, even in freezing, outdoor conditions. And of course if the Seahawks secure the five seed and it ends up mattering in that way, i.e. if the six seed upsets the three seed and sends Seattle to the two seed, then it keeps hope alive for the most important scenario of all: not just avoiding New Orleans entirely but hosting an NFC Championship game. All of that is too far down the line to really care about, I know it, but what all of that information actually does is this: gives more weight to Seattle’s game against the Cardinals this Sunday. It does matter. They can’t bank on the Vikings losing. They’re at home vs the worst offense in the NFL. They do need to win this one and move into the playoffs with a 10-6 record and a better opportunity. Seeding has had huge implications throughout NFL playoff history and this is no different. It may seem like a small thing, but this win could actually be very significant.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Even after everything the Los Angeles Rams have accomplished this season Arik Armstead Jersey White , they still knew they probably needed to beat rival San Francisco in the finale for a first-round playoff bye.Although their high-powered offense did its part as usual, a four-takeaway effort by the defense was even more exciting while the Rams secured a well-deserved week off.Brandin Cooks and Josh Reynolds caught two touchdown passes apiece from Jared Goff, and the Rams wrapped up a six-game sweep of their NFC West opponents with a 48-32 victory over the 49ers on Sunday.Cory Littleton returned one of his two interceptions for a TD as the Rams (13-3) completed their winningest regular season since 2001 by making sure they get a few days off before they attempt to earn their first playoff victory since the 2004 season.“We’ll enjoy all of that tonight, and understand how big of an accomplishment that is,” said Goff, who passed for 199 yards. “You feel great @ 13-3. We’re coming off two great wins, and we get to finish the season 6-0 (against the division). Only team in the league that did that.”The Rams needed the win over the Niners or a loss by Chicago to clinch the No. 2 seed in the NFC postseason. Los Angeles didn’t count on the Bears, who ended up beating Minnesota. The Rams played nearly every starter except Todd Gurley and jumping to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes before stretching it to 28-3 midway through the second quarter.C.J. Anderson rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown in his second 100-yard game in place of Gurley, who sat out again to rest his knees. The Rams hadn’t swept San Francisco since 2004, but coach Sean McVay dropped 87 points on his friend Kyle Shanahan’s club in two meetings this season.“We’re going into (the bye week) with a lot of confidence after this,” Reynolds said. “The rest is going to help us out, and we’ll be at our best when the playoffs start.”Nick Mullens passed for 282 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions for the 49ers (4-12), who wrapped up their fifth consecutive non-winning season. San Francisco went winless on the road for the first time since 1979, Bill Walsh’s first season in charge.George Kittle set the NFL’s single-season record for yards receiving by a tight end with 1,377 when he caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Mullens with 2:20 left. Alfred Morris rushed for 111 yards and a score. While the Rams’ defense put together a series of big plays to cap a strong month of work Trent Taylor Jersey White , San Francisco’s defense set an NFL record with just seven takeaways all season after failing to force a turnover by Goff and his teammates.“That was the disappointing thing about the game,” Shanahan said. “Not just Nick. It was about everybody. Starting that game off with four turnovers, same way we did the last time versus them, it doesn’t give yourself much of a chance to play.”The Rams clinched the division four weeks ago, but missed the chance to secure a week off when they lost at Chicago two weeks later. The Bears pushed LA until the final week, but the Rams took control quickly at the Coliseum. On the game’s fourth snap, Aqib Talib returned a fumble inside the Niners 10. After Cooks caught a TD pass, Littleton returned his first interception 22 yards and Anderson punched it in.Littleton, the Rams’ do-it-all linebacker and Pro Bowl special-teamer, took his second pick 19 yards to the house early in the second quarter for what he claimed was the first defensive touchdown of his football life.KITTLE’S MARKKittle got the record with nine catches for 149 yards, including five for 95 yards in the fourth quarter. He surpassed both Rob Gronkowski’s 2011 record of 1,327 yards and the new mark set earlier Sunday by Kansas City’s Travis Kelce, who finished this season with 1,336.“I was like, ‘Well http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-dante-pettis-jersey , I’ll let (Kelce) have it for a little bit, and then I’m going to take it,'” Kittle said. The Niners were determined to get the record, targeting Kittle 14 times — including six times in the fourth quarter of a blowout. Shanahan said he wanted this record after Kittle had 210 yards receiving in the first half against Denver earlier this month, but failed to top Shannon Sharpe’s single-game record of 214 yards for a tight end because he didn’t catch a pass in the second half.“My position coach and some other guys were giving me little updates,” Kittle said. “Definitely going into the last drive, ‘Hey, you need 9 yards, so make it 15.’ I said, ‘Hey, I’ll take it to the end zone, I guess.'”DONALD’S DOMINANCEAaron Donald had one sack to finish with 20½ for the season. The Rams’ peerless defensive tackle fell short of Michael Strahan’s single-season sacks record of 22½, but Donald still set an NFL record with 183.5 total sack yards when he dropped Mullens for an 8-yard loss in the first half.INJURIES49ers: LG Laken Tomlinson left the field on a cart in the second quarter with an apparent right knee injury.Rams: LT Andrew Whitworth injured his knee in the second quarter. He didn’t return, but rookie Joseph Noteboom appeared to play well in his absence. McVay is cautiously optimistic Whitworth’s injury is no more than a bruise. … The Rams rested Gurley and safety Lamarcus Joyner. Blake Countess started in Joyner’s place, but left early with a concussion. The Seahawks and 49ers will meet for the second time in three weeks this Sunday in Santa Clara with another reunion on deck for Richard Sherman and his former team.Prior to their first meeting two weeks ago http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-kwon-alexander-jersey , Sherman said he didn’t have much of a relationship with his former quarterback, Russell Wilson, was irked by his how he was jettisoned by the franchise while injured, and referred to the Seahawks as a “middle of the road” team.Meanwhile, Seahawks defensive end Frank Clark said following the Vikings win on Monday night that he didn’t make too much of Sherman’s comments, but made it clear that they’re not looking backward as a unit.“That’s just Richard Sherman being Richard Sherman,” Clark said of the comment on Monday. “He’s not in this locker room no more so his opinion really doesn’t matter. They’ve got problems over there in San Fran that he needs to be worried about.“At the end of the day, this is my team now. This is my defense. Richard Sherman, his era is over here. If he’s got anything to say about our defense, he can say it on the field, at the end of the day.“We’re 1-0 against Richard Sherman right now. We are 1-0 against the San Francisco 49ers this year. Our plan is to be 2-0. So we are going into that stadium next week with our pure aggression. We are going to stop that run, and we are going to have fun on third downs.”Sherman had the chance to respond to Clark’s comments on Thursday and tried to downplay any issues the comments may have created between himself and his former teammates.“Just seems like a guy who’s probably tired of hearing the same questions,” Sherman said, via Michael Wagaman of the . “I’d probably be pretty annoyed too if we won a game and somebody comes and asks me about a guy who wasn’t either involved in this game or on my team.“It didn’t bother me at all. It’s kind of weird but it doesn’t bother me. The era was over in my mind obviously. I’m here.”The Seahawks can clinch a playoff berth on Sunday in the Bay Area while the 49ers enter the final three weeks of the season with a 3-10 record. San Francisco will attempt to break a streak of 10 straight losses to Seattle and postpone any celebrations for the Seahawks for at least another week.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Bengals coach Marvin Lewis shut down the question immediately Clark Harris Jersey , making it clear he won't be talking about the latest addition to his staff — one who's in an unusual position to influence the next game.Only last month, Hue Jackson was Cleveland's head coach, intimately involved in the Browns‘ game planning. Now he's on the Bengals sideline with Lewis, trying to beat the Browns — a sensitive subject that the head coach is trying to put off limits."I think I've answered enough Hue questions, OK?" Lewis said Wednesday with an edge to his tone. "We're done. We're over." Oh, no. The intrigue is just getting started. The Bengals (5-5) desperately need to beat the Browns (3-6-1) at Paul Brown Stadium to remain relevant in the playoff chase. They've lost four of five , fired their defensive coordinator and installed Lewis as leader of a historically bad unit.As part of the shuffle, he brought back a close friend at an opportune time.Jackson was fired by the Browns on Oct. 29 after winning only three games in three seasons. Lewis brought him back to Cincinnati for the third time , creating a role of special assistant. Jackson helps develop the weekly game plan on defense and provides tips on the sideline during games. His input will be especially useful this week. Jackson knows the Browns' tendencies and the players' strengths and weaknesses."That was very unique," defensive end Carlos Dunlap said. "He knows the players, he knows the staff. They just got a new (offensive coordinator), so they're probably calling things differently than when (Jackson) left. So you have your advantages there."It's not unusual for a team to pick up a player who was released by an upcoming opponent Womens Malik Jefferson Jersey , but it's highly unusual to get the other team's former head coach. One more unique feature to this intrastate matchup: Both head coaches will be calling the defensive plays. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was elevated to interim coach after Jackson was fired. Lewis took over the defensive coordinator duties after Teryl Austin was fired on Nov. 12."It brings a smile to my face," Williams said Wednesday during a conference call. "It's kind of unique."It's challenging to analyze what the opposing offense is doing and adjust defensively while also running the overall game. That's where Jackson's presence could be especially helpful on Sunday. The Browns are coming off a bye week that gave them a chance to add a few things that Jackson won't anticipate."He's not there (in Cleveland) anymore, so they could have changed a lot of those things," Dunlap said. "So you don't want to get caught guessing. But it's good to know what they like to do and what they're built and set up for, so it's great to have that understanding."Jackson jogged off the practice field on Wednesday and declined to stop and talk about his reunion with Cleveland, referring questions to the closed-lipped Lewis.A.J. GETTING CLOSERReceiver A.J. Green could return against Cleveland. He's missed the past two games with an injured toe on his right foot, and the offense struggled in losses to the Saints and Ravens . Green didn't practice Wednesday, but Lewis said he will work out the rest of the week, aiming to be ready by Sunday.Left tackle Cordy Glenn (back) and cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick (shoulder) also missed practice. Defensive end Michael Johnson (calf) and safety Shawn Williams (hamstring) were limited.BROWN'S DISAPPOINTMENTThe Bengals figured they'd upgraded their linebacker group when they signed durable Preston Brown from Buffalo in the offseason. He was limited by a right ankle injury that he suffered the first game, and he injured his right knee during a 51-14 loss to the Saints. The Bengals put him on injured reserve Tuesday and signed defensive end/linebacker Kasim Edebali, a college free agent who has played with the Saints, Broncos http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-nick-vigil-jersey , Lions and Rams. Lewis said Brown might have surgery on his ankle now that he can't return this season.NFL cutdown day: Interesting moves around the league and AFC North While we sift through the ashes of the Bengals’ release of their 53-man roster, we are also under the impression that changes will be made to it, in one form or another. In recent years, the Bengals haven’t been shy about making a waiver wire claim (Brandon Tate, KeiVarae Russell, Jeff Driskel) or a trade (Reggie Nelson, Kelly Jennings) shortly after finalizing their roster. So, in that vein, we have been scouring the news about recently-cut players who could contribute in Cincinnati this season. Here are some of the more intriguing names let loose onto the free market on Saturday—especially when it comes to the Bengals, as they look to finely-tune their roster before Week 1 in Indianapolis.Xavier Su’a-Filo, offensive guard: Su’a-Filo was a former second round pick after a standout career at UCLA. He’s had an up-and-down career in the NFL and was just released by the Titans, who signed him this offseason. T.J. Clemmings http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-william-jackson-jersey , offensive lineman: Remember when Clemmings was a popular mock pick to the Bengals a couple of years ago? He was once thought of as a first round pick, but fell to the fourth round to Mike Zimmer and the Vikings. Clemmings went to another coach under the Marvin Lewis tree in Jay Gruden, but the Redskins just released him. He might be a band-aid and/or solid depth signing for the Bengals. Donnel Pumphrey, running back: He set NCAA records at San Diego State, but couldn’t make the Eagles’ roster this year. Aside from helping out the running backs in a number of ways, he could contribute on special teams as a return man in a pinch. Tony Lippett, cornerback: The Bengals are said to be in the market for cornerback depth and Lippett is one of the better guys on the open market. He has good size at 6’3” and had four interceptions for the Miami Dolphins in 2016, but didn’t play all of last season after tearing his Achilles. Breshad Perriman, wide receiver: The Ravens’ former first round pick was let go during final cuts. He’s had problems with drops and injuries, but should quickly find a home somewhere else with a team willing to attempt to revitalize his career.Jonathan Cooper, offensive guard: The former first round pick has just never found his groove in the NFL. Since being drafted No. 7 overall in 2013, Cooper has bounced on and off of five teams’ rosters. He’s another guy who could be an emergency starter for the Bengals if they can’t figure out the right side. Vince Beigel Mark Walton Jersey White , linebacker: The Packers let go of their former fourth round pick on Saturday. He was mainly a backup and special teams player last season, but might be a temporary upgrade to the Bengals’ position group, as they await Vontaze Burfict’s return from a four-game suspension. Nico Siragusa, offensive guard: Another SDSU alum who played with Pumphrey, was let go on final cuts by the Baltimore Ravens after just two seasons with the club. He was drafted in the fourth round and battled injuries, but might be a solid long-term prospect. Kyle Fuller, center: No, not that Kyle Fuller—it’s the former Houston Texans center. He was a seventh round pick last year and didn’t hang onto their roster in 2018. Since Cincinnati is only currently carrying one true center in Billy Price, Fuller might be a swing guard/backup option.AFC North cutsSteelers roster cuts: RB Fitzgerald Toussaint, OLB Keion Adams, QB Landry Jones among notable cuts.Ravens roster cuts: WR DeVier Posey, OL Cameron Lee Womens Tyler Kroft Jersey , DE Myles Humphrey, WR Breshad Perriman among notable cuts.Browns roster cuts: FB Danny Vitale, TE Devon Cajuste, OL Spencer Drango, DL Nate Orchard, DL Caleb Brantle among notable cuts.Get the latest on more NFL cuts here.

Darius Slay injury update: Lions cornerback leaves with concussion Will Harris Jersey Mens , won’t return The Detroit Lions are going to need to conjure up some fourth-quarter magic yet again if they’re going to escape Week 2 with a win, but they’ll have to do so without their star cornerback. In the third quarter, Darius Slay suffered a concussion while trying to make a tackle. 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk lowered his head to truck Slay and initiated head-to-head contact. Slay immediately went down and was motionless for a couple of seconds. No penalty was called on the play. This is the second straight week Slay has been evaluated for a concussion, but this time medical staff confirmed he did suffered one this time, and he will not return to the game.In Slay’s spot, the Lions put Teez Tabor in the game. Tabor started on Sunday Youth Will Harris Jersey , but was quickly pulled after a miscommunication led to the 49ers’ first touchdown of the game. Nevin Lawson is the other outside cornerback in the game.Report: Free agent S George Iloka ‘likely’ to sign with Vikings A few days ago, one of the more surprising cuts hit the newswire when it was reported that veteran George Iloka, a six year starter for the Cincinnati Bengals, had been let go. There was immediate speculation that Iloka might be a fit for the Vikings, since he spent his first two years with the Bengals working under then-defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. It was a reasonable assumption, as Minnesota pursued Iloka in free agency back in 2016 White Will Harris Jersey , but to no avail. Iloka re-upped with the Bengals, signing a five year, $30 million dollar deal, with $18 million guaranteed. When Iloka was released, the Vikings seemed like a possible destination again, as it was thought that Iloka’s knowledge of the defense and his past relationship with Zimmer might be enough for the Vikings to kick the tires on him. It appears they’re doing more than that:Iloka and the Vikings make a ton of sense based on his history with Zimmer in Cincinnati Sylvester Williams Jersey , but I thought that the Vikes were kind of set at safety. There is an argument to be made that depth needs to be addressed at other positions, like offensive line or wide receiver, and Andrew Sendejo has played pretty well the last couple years. He was ranked as the 13th overall safety per PFF last year, and of all the position groups on the team, the defensive backfield seemed to be a low priority in terms of finding guys that can play. But Iloka brings a ton of experience and depth to an already stacked secondary, and challenges Sendejo for a starting job opposite Harrison Smith. Just because you’re already strong at a position doesn’t mean you should pass up an opportunity to get a good football player when the situation presents itself. And the Vikings appear to be doing just that.Vikings fans were salivating at a Smith-Iloka safety combo back in 2016 Ricky Wagner Jersey , and now it could very well happen. He’s well versed in Mike Zimmer’s ‘Double A Gap’ defense, he’s been a starter for five years, and in that time has missed only four games due to injury. Iloka shouldn’t have any problems assimilating in to the defense, and the tough decisions for the Vikings staff on who stays and who goes in the secondary when cutdown day comes just got a whole lot tougher. So barring a snafu in contract negotiations, it looks like the Vikings are adding another really good player to an already great defense. When we get more details, we’ll pass them along.

In case you hadn’t noticed (or don’t live here) http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-lane-taylor-jersey , it’s kind of cold in Wisconsin this week.More Packers coveragePackers at Bears to open 2019 scheduleTop Tweets: Brewers make hilarious ‘Mean Girls’ parody videoMatthews signs with Rams after 10 years with PackersPackers re-sign tight end Marcedes LewisTop Tweets: Nikola Mirotic loves being a Milwaukee BuckThe National Weather Service has the high in Milwaukee for Wednesday as minus-10. The. High. This doesn’t count wind-chill factor, which will have things feeling like minus-40 or minus-50. But really once you’re talking minus-40, what’s another 10 degrees? We of course wouldn’t recommend anyone going outside during these bitterly frigid times. But it did get us to thinking — what’s the coldest temperatures played in by Wisconsin sports teams? The Green Bay Packers played in arguably the most famous cold-weather game of all time, the 1967 NFC Championship at Lambeau Field on Dec. 31, 1967 vs. Dallas, otherwise known as “The Ice Bowl.” The temperature on that day was minus-13 degrees, the record low — by a big margin — for any NFL game.In fact, according to pro-football-reference, there have been only nine games in the NFL which have been played at 0 degrees or lower (not including wind chill) since the AFL-NFL merger in 1966, and the Packers have been involved in four of them:— The Ice Bowl (a 21-17 Green Bay win, by the way, in case you’ve forgotten.)— Dec. 10, 1972 at Minnesota: minus-2 degrees (Packers won, 23-7)— Jan. 20, 2008 vs. the New York Giants in the NFC Championship: minus-1. (The Giants won 23-20 in overtime and Tom Coughlin’s face is still beet red.)— Dec. 26, 1993 vs. Oakland: zero degrees (Packers won Vince Biegel Jersey , 28-0).In addition, Green Bay has played two games at Chicago where the temperatures were 0.5 (Dec. 18, 1983) and 0.7 (Dec. 10, 1978). The Packers lost both of those games. Green Bay has played in four other games in which the temperature was three degrees or lower — and lost each one. The Packers are 8-11 in games played at 10 degrees or colder since 1966 (caveat: with the known available data). The Wisconsin Badgers haven’t played in temperatures under 10 degrees recently. On Nov. 15, 2014, the temperature at gametime against Nebraska was 26 degrees, which was the coldest at Camp Randall Stadium in 50 years (11 degrees on Nov. 21, 1964, a win over Minnesota). By the way, that Nebraska game was game Melvin Gordon rushed for a then-NCAA record 408 yards. The year previous to that, the Badgers played against Minnesota at TCF Bank Stadium with the temperature at 18 degrees, the coldest game at the time in the short history of the Gophers’ home. The Badgers’ men’s hockey team has played in three outdoor games, but none were as chilly as that 2014 football contest. In 2016, Wisconsin played Ohio State in the Frozen Tundra Classic at Lambeau Field. Game time temp: A downright balmy 28 degrees.Four years later, the Badgers hosted the Camp Randall Classic against Michigan where it was 21 degrees. In 2013, Wisconsin was in Chicago at Soldier Field against Minnesota for the Hockey City Classic; the temperature there was also 28. Wisconsin won all three of those contests. Finally http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-paul-hornung-jersey , there’s the Milwaukee Brewers, who have played exactly one game below freezing (again, without wind chill) in their history, according to baseball-reference. That occurred April 5, 1994 when it was 31 degrees at County Stadium for Milwaukee’s game against Oakland (there was also a 29-mile per hour wind). The Brewers have had five other games between 33-35 degrees, three of which were in Milwaukee (April 10, 1994, April 10, 2000 and April 7, 1997) plus one in both Toronto (April 16 ,1980) and Cincinnati (April 4, 2000).Of course, in 1973 a snowstorm delayed Milwaukee’s home opener until April 13. Although there were still snow on the streets, County Stadium was cleared of the white stuff and the Brewers beat the Baltimore in 38-degree weather, 2-0.This year the Brewers open the 2019 season at home on March 28. Here’s where we all say, “Thank goodness for the roof on Miller Park.” As the Green Bay Packers (5-8-1) walked out of Soldier Field on Sunday Womens Dave Robinson Jersey , they did so on the losing end of their rivalry with Chicago for the first time in six games. The Bears’ 24-17 victory not only threw a dagger in the Packers’ playoff chances, but handed Chicago its first division title since 2010. With a matchup in New York against the Jets this week, the Packers will try to avoid going winless on the road in 2018.Chicago was not the only team to improve its postseason chances on Sunday, as the Minnesota Vikings throttled Miami to hang on to the final wildcard slot. A big, breakout game from a young running back propelled the Vikings to victory. and the team has a chance to secure a playoff spot this week if a few things go according to plan.A look at Minnesota’s keys to the postseason, and an offseason roster-reshaping in Detroit, can be found in today’s NFC North rundown.Chicago Bears (10-4)Won 24-17; Next at San FranciscoBears suddenly look like NFC North’s most stable franchiseThe rise of young defensive pillars draws similarities to the Bears’ division-contending teams of the mid-2000s. Here are a few notable options they could take a look at.Five Lions free agents who shouldn’t return in 2019On the other end of the spectrum, here are a handful of veteran players that may be signing a contract elsewhere in the offseason.TIM AND MIKE: Week 15 observationsThe Lions’ offensive line prevented Matthew Stafford from being sacked on Sunday, an impressive feat for a unit with a rookie making his first start at right tackle.Minnesota Vikings (7-6-1)Won 41-17 vs. Miami; Next at DetroitThe Minnesota Vikings can clinch a playoff spot in Week 16Here are the scenarios for the Vikings to clinch a postseason berth next week and eliminate drama heading into the final week.Riding Dalvin Cook will be key to Vikings’ playoff pushInterim Offensive Coordinator Kevin Stefanski made his playcalling debut on Sunday and was successful in getting Minnesota’s second-year back involved early and often, a goal for the Vikings the rest of the season.Upon Further Review: Vikings vs. DolphinsMinnesota scored 21 points in the first quarter against Miami after scoring 21 points combined over their past six first quarters. TAMPA Markus Granlund Jersey , Fla. (AP) The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed forward J.T. Miller to a five-year contract worth $26.25 million.Miller will count $5.5 million against the salary cap through 2022-23. General manager Steve Yzerman announced the deal with the pending restricted free agent on Tuesday.Acquired from the New York Rangers at the trade deadline, Miller put up 18 points in 19 regular-season games with Tampa Bay and then eight more in 17 playoff games. The 25-year-old Miller has 82 goals and 108 assist in 360 NHL games.Miller’s contract puts cap-strapped Tampa Bay closer to the $79.5 million ceiling, with new contracts still needed for restricted free agent defenseman Slater Koekkoek and forward Cedric Paquette. The Lightning are one of a handful of teams set to meet with New York Islanders star John Tavares in Los Angeles to try to persuade the pending free agent to join them.— SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Only 25 seconds after nearly ending the game Michael Del Zotto Jersey , Mike Hoffman made sure it was over.Hoffman hit the post at 1:03 of overtime and then scored at 1:28 to give the Florida Panthers a 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Monday night. The initial shot by Hoffman was originally ruled a goal before it was quickly overturned after a replay review. Hoffman came back just seconds later with a drive from the right circle that beat Keith Kinkaid, giving him 23 points in his last 20 games.“I didn’t see (the first shot) at all if it went in or not.
